How on earth has Evelyn got on a law degree course? Does she have any A levels?
Let alone one starting in January, with that short of an application window
There are ways on to a degree course for mature students other than academic qualifications eg: relevant work experience or vocational qualifications. Failing that, Evelyn might to do an Access course which is designed for such students. But, more to the point, how is Evelyn going to pay over £9000 per year in tuition fees? Or perhaps it's not a 3-year degree course. I'll be sorry to see Evelyn go.
I know, it's bizarre but some universities used to waive formal qualifications if you were a mature student, but yes, most don't begin in January.
But she'll need to take out a student loan, which will have to be paid back.
It's around £40k per year, isn't it? I'm wondering why a common sense character like Evelyn would want to saddle herself with debt.
I think it's reason for her to exit. Maybe Maureen is taking on other work for a short while?
Universities are very keen on mature students and will often waive the usual requirements if they see strong potential in the candidate.
She may get away without A-levels is she has relevant experience. But I doubt that she has.
Has she looked into finance? Tuition fees are high. Where will she live? What happened to her flat? Her pension won't go far, and she's never mentioned "life savings".
