Coronation Street Episode Review, Sunday 6 March 2022

In case you are confused this was clearly the Friday episode - people were at work and talking about Friday but transmission was on Sunday evening.

Kev came back but whilst he was away Abi was getting supplies from her dealer, Dean, and even using some of his own supply.  Kev leaves Jack with Deb and then returns home to find Dean giving Abi a massage as she has unexplained back pains.  Kev orders Dean out of the house (without his shoes) and then tries to tell Abi that he had come back to make things up - but given everything that is not going to be possible.  Dean returns, finds and steals keys, takes a car from the garage and gets Abi to join him on a countryside drive.  Her pains get worse and thinking she is having a bad reaction, Dean leaves her in the middle of nowhere with a 1% charge on her phone and no way of summoning the ambulance service - telling the emergency operator that she is having a baby, as the phone's charge drains away.

Emma spends much of the episode having cocktails (a fuzzy navel) with her new beau, Jon -grandson of the man who died a few weeks ago - and whom she chatted up at the funeral. She fights shy of returning to the Street for drinks at the Rovers having promised Faye that she would not see Jon any more.  Luckily for Faye, Jon makes an announcement - he is now free from responsibilities and is planning to start a new life in Australia so Emma suggests that they have a quick secret "summer" romance until he goes.  Emma... remind me where does your mother live?  How about a visit in a month or two to see how she is?  Faye and Craig meanwhile decide to cheer up Emma when she returns and have decided to make some cocktails so a Cosmo is on offer.

Sam is talking normally again and has become addicted to learning to play chess.  After playing against Roy earlier in the week Sam continued reading about chess in his every waking moment, which included up to 1am.  Nick appeals to Roy to teach Sam, but not to beat him as it crushes him.  However Roy plays his own mind game and when Sam turns up he is challenged by Brian who claims he is on a winning streak at the moment.  From where I was sitting some of the moves appeared non-standard but Sam wins and refuses to shake Brian's offered hand and also later gloats; which is not precisely the aim that Nick was hoping to achieve. However wise man Roy has recorded every move of Sam's win and gives him the book containing his first win and notes that he is improving at a record rate.  Also Sam apologises for gloating over his victory and Roy agrees to play him in the future - but only if like all other ten year old boys he is getting 10 hours sleep every night. Sam agrees.

The episode commenced with Adam being interviewed by a policeman over the trashing of Lydia's flat.  Can I ask a question - where is Lydia's son?  Never mind - no-one seems to remember he exists.  Lydia continues to work her magic on Sarah who simply does not believe a word that Adam says on the subject (after all why would any sane lawyer advise his client to visit the person causing all of his problems and why has Adam has not asked for proof of his fingerprints on the trashed contents of Lydia's flat?).  Lydia has taken her plan further and reported Adam to the Solicitors' Regulation Authority so he has to suspend himself from his own firm.  Lydia, a question - if he treated you so badly last time around why did you even consider having an affair with him again?  Even the police have spotted that "Adam's" messages were sent from his own wifi!  Lydia is so certain of herself that she stops him outside the Rovers where absolutely no-one can overhear her and says, "Life's a bitch and then you meet one".  Lydia re-iterates that she is just getting started.

Kelly is keeping some odd hours and explains the reasons to Simon in Victoria Gardens.  She goes to mum Laura's first thing, sort out meds and goes into school.  Pops back to her mum at lunchtime for more meds and try to get her to eat before returning to school for the afternoon.  She might have a shift in "Trim Up North" later.  Following which it is time to get a meal and evening meds into her mother by which time it is own bed time.  On full repeat.  I do not know about Manchester but there is a lot of support for Young Carers like Kelly.  Simon claims to be "knackered" just hearing the story.  And Laura wants no-one else involved and Gary wants nothing to do with Laura, so she cannot tell Gary or Maria.  Simon then explains how he helped Leanne after Oliver's death, so he does understand.  But Kelly insists that she can do it and does not need anyone else.

Which I think wraps it up for me for tonight.  Next week is over to the new timetable with Corrie relinquishing the 7:30pm slot held since it started.  And 1 hour episodes.  I would like to think that they might tone down some of the cliffhangers at the end of half an hour but I suppose there is an ad break and they want us all back after the break. so probably no change there then.

Sam did shake Brian’s hand. They edited out the actual handshake which was perhaps due to covid. But you can see the action of Sam going to shake Brian’s hand and Roy’s reaction to the handshake

It looked like last night’s episode took place on a Friday morning and lunchtime for that matter - not Sunday, when it felt which tied with Friday’s part two of the EastEnders episode, whereas the Corrie Wednesday episode took place on the Friday evening as reckon football got in the way of the disruption of the events being a day back to front, hopefully we’re up to speed with tonight’s episode only for it to take place on the same day in the first half, EastEnders the other soap meanwhile is given a new slot at 7.30pm except Friday evening, as for Corrie they are given three hour-long episodes due to the new allocated timeslot from tonight.

Whereas Corrie finished at 8.59 and but Antiques Roadshow finished at 9.01pm on BBC One last night due to avoiding a clash with another drama which took place on ITV with a vintage ident as it was about a spy called Harry Palmer and at 9.03, BBC One had a standard normal ident which took place on a field, nothing went wrong with The Shelbys ever cos they were later a few minutes billed because of trailers. Just as the two channels switched sides to which programme came on first.

We’ve had Corrie episodes in the past that did take place on Sunday evenings even ten years ago had three limited weeks during the summer of 2012 which did take place on the corrected day itself, but last nights episode was to make up for the absence of the Friday episode and next week Corrie is back to normal with corrected days as well and three episodes a week.
