Charlie de Melo quits Coronation Street as Imran Habeeb

Charlie de Melo has reportedly quit Coronation Street after five years.

The actor joined Corrie in 2017 and has played lawyer Imran Habeeb during that time but The Sun has reported that he has now decided look beyond the cobbles for new challenges.

The media outlet reported that a source close to the soap actor said that while Charlie had "loved his time on the soap" he believes that now "the time is right to try new things."

They continued to say that Charlie will "cherish" the time he has spent in Corrie but he is "hugely talented and very ambitious and wants to see what else is out there."

With Emma and Imran both leaving I really hope this gives Corrie a kick up the backside. The show shouldn't be losing talent like this, but with the stories they've been given it's not difficult to see why either of them are leaving.

I have thought for a while that Adam is on his way out, too. Sam Robertson has said in interviews that he's feeling trapped after being in one role for some years and wants more variety. Maybe Imran leaves when his fling with Abbie is revealed. Guessing that the solicitors closes down after Adam and Lydia die a blazing inferno, and Imran realises there's nothing to keep him. Abbie is too far down the self-destruct route to be saved. So here's my list of leavers: Adam, Imran, Lydia, Abbie.

OK, I've read the soap news. Adam will be around for another year. Big money deals often help to keep the cast!

So he and Toyah don't get married? Shocker!
It's sad to see him go, he's a fantastic actor and really puts his heart into his scenes.
Best of luck to him, hopefully they won't kill him off, leaving the door open for a return later on.

I didn't think they'd kill off a Barlow.
The Barlows are big part of the street's heritage.
Abbie won't leave (unless Sally C falls out with the producers) as Sally Carmen begged to audition!
I hope Imran takes Toyah with him. As time goes on I'm finding her difficult to tolerate!
I don't know why they brought her back to the show, as apart from the Eva baby plot, she hasn't made a great deal of impact.
Yep, I bet Lydia is on her way out. She was only brought in for a temporary Jade Stape style stalker plot.
I hope Craig, Fay and Max leave too.

Oh no! Has anyone broken this to Scott yet? (merseytart)

Sharon, I completely agree with all of your comments. The Craig, Faye and Emma storyline was ridiculous, I hated every minute of it. Unfortunately, it proved to me that Colson Smith is not a very good actor.
I will miss Charlie wish him all the very best in the future!

Although I'm disappointed,I'm not surprised that Charlie de Melo is leaving as one night stand with Abi seems to have tainted Imram's good name.
Unfortunately it seems that lately unless your character is either a member of the Barlow Connor,Platt or Webster families, you don't get featured in storylines.
Since Rick Neelan's death is about to be revealed,I wonder if the truth about his sister's Rana's death also comes out and Imram is murdered by Gary before he can go to the police?

Why wouldn't they kill off a Barlow? They killed off Oliver MacDonald.
Sally Carmen will stay as long as Joe Duttine stays. Regular work for this couple.
Toyah was brought back as people wanted her to come back. Careful what you wish for.

I’m not at all surprised that a steady trickle of the Street’s better actors have had enough of the continuous drivel being churned out week after week. ITV bosses need to recognise that the programme needs a complete overhaul to return it to the brilliant unmissable viewing it once was. The producers completely missed the mood of the nation lockdown when we needed warm light relief from the turmoil of disease, and now, faced with whatever will be the global fallout from Ukraine, we need this warmth and comfort like never before.

There's a long list of Barlow's who have been killed off including all of Ken's wives.

Yes, I guess they could kill off a Barlow.
I just thought they'd want to keep as many as they could of that family line, as they were one of the original families when the street launched.
(In fact, I don't know of any other street family who did last as long, apart from Elsie tanner and her feckless son).
The Connors have been diluted over the years, with Liam, Paul, Aiden and Johnny being killed off and Kate going travelling.
The Platts and the Websters are still highly valued, I think, even though we don't see the Webster girls anymore.
I wonder if Brian will leave Cathy to go to Cornwall?
The choppy (and often witty) debate in the cafe was spoken so quickly, I thought they needed to slow the pace a bit!

I agree with the Craig, Faye, Emma storyline. Really stupid. Three Stooges kind of stuff!

A different view is, Abbi drinking and drugging will lose the baby. Her pregnancy has been forgotten. THAT will be Imran's exit.

It's such a shame Imran is leaving. Losing good actors leaves the dead wood. Oh and wasn't Abby's pregnancy test negative?

Michael said...

Oops. Correct. Not pregnant.

Well said. The Christmas day episode showed that they can still do funny but we get this depressing rubbish week after week.
