Having a moan about Corrie's women drivers

That fun foursome of Bill, Audrey, Janice and Roger have set off for France in a people-carrier on a booze cruise. And guess what? It's all going to go Pete Tong when Audrey takes the wheel and crashes the car.

Women drivers on Coronation Street never get a good press. With a few exceptions - Carla Connor for one (but is that because she's really a man in drag?) whatever brain cells they have disappear the minute they sit down behind the wheel of a car.

So as well as Audrey Roberts pressing the pedal to the metal and getting into a scrape, we've had Fiz Brown being shown as a comedy target when she was learning to drive and then she fell off and smashed up her scooter. Vera Duckworth crashed into Judy Mallett, causing a blood clot in her leg that ended up killing her. Sally Webster went manic in a motor on the moors followed by Kevin in his breakdown truck. Perhaps Sally should have driven that instead? When Claire Peacock had her sights set on driving the Weatherfield Wayfarer, she knocked over and injured Schmeichel. And if you cast your mind back to Maxine Peacock learning to drive they cast her in stillettos that kept slipping off the pedals. It's no wonder her little pussy was never seen again, she probably squashed it under the wheels of the car.
