Tonight: Nigel Havers and Sally Lindsay in First Class vs Economy

The wonderful pairing of ex-Coronation Street actors Nigel Havers (Lewis Archer) and Sally Lindsay (Shelley Unwin) in Upstairs, Downstairs was a show I really enjoyed.  And now they're back together, in a new show for Channel 5 that looks at first class vs economy flights.

The show is on Channel 5 tonight at 9.15pm.  It's called First Class Vs Economy: Is It Worth It?

Nigel Havers and Sally Lindsay take to the skies long-haul with British Airways to find out what differences there are between flying low cost or first class. They'll also have to deal with food preparation and difficult passengers.

Tonight: Sally Lindsay on Celebrity Bake Off

Sally Lindsay, who played Coronation Street's Shelley Unwin, is starring on Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer tonight. It's on Channel 4 at 8pm.

And Sally revealed there's a personal reason she wanted to take part in the show.

Sally said:  “I don’t think there’s anyone in the country that hasn’t got a personal reason to want to do something for cancer. It touches all our lives. My dad passed away from cancer last year, I’ve had friends who’ve had it and recovered and other friends who didn’t make it. I thought this would be an opportunity for me to do something that takes me out of my comfort zone for the right reasons.

“I’d never baked anything before I got there! I’d only ever made Rice Krispie cakes, but that doesn’t count, does it? Before that, the last time I can remember putting a spoon in mixing bowl of flour, I was about seven years old, baking with my gran. It was massively daunting walking into the tent because it’s so iconic. When I turned up, the producers asked: ‘What are your ideas, what do you usually do?’ And I’m thinking: ‘What!?’ I was like a proper fish out of water! I was literally sweating for two days. It’s the hardest gig I’ve ever done.”

Sally Lindsay confirms no Coronation Street return

Sally Lindsay, who played Shelley Unwin in Coronation Street, was interviewed on ITV's Good Morning this week.

Sally was on the show to promote her role in the new series of Mount Pleasant, and of course she was asked whether she was returning to Corrie in the future.

Her reply was this:  "I'd love to (go back in) but I'm afraid this year - no time. I love Corrie, it's great. It's like I'm putting it down but I'm not it's moved on. It's a juggernaut that moves on and it was wonderful being there and I've got lifelong friends from that but that was the past."

Earlier in the interview, she was asked: "You’ve done so many things, but it’s Coronation Street everyone insists on mentioning though."

And Sally said: "What do you do? After you walk those cobbles, that’s it. It’s been 13 years now and I’m still not going back! I’ve been in Mount Pleasant for longer than I was in Coronation Street."

Well, such is the power of Coronation Street that once you've been in it, you'll probably always be associated with it. And that can be no bad thing for anyone on TV.

Shame though, that she's not returning. I really like the actress and the character of Shelley was complex too.

Saly Lindsay: "I'd never say never to Coronation Street return"

Sally Lindsay, who played Shelley Unwin in Coronation Street has been rumoured as returning to Coronation Street in the tabloids this week. It's not exactly true and isn't a reflection of what she actually said.

Sally told Woman's Own: "I always say never say never but at the moment, no, I love Coronation Street and I had a wonderful time there. I don’t watch it now though, it’s like looking at your old workplace."

Sally Lindsay: "I'd love to come back to Coronation Street"

In this week's Inside Soap magazine, there's a good interview with Sally Lindsay, who played Shelley Unwin on Coronation Street.

Sally talks fondly about her time on Corrie and says this: "I'd love to come back to it in years to come. Betty Driver (Betty Williams) didn't join until she was 58 so there's plenty of time I love Corrie - always have, always will."

Talking about working on Corrie, she says: "Corrie was the best training course of my life. I learned everything there - everything. I had to learn lines quickly  and because everything turns over so rapidly, you learn to trust your instincts while working with brilliant actors like William Roache (Ken Barlow).  He's amazing.  He never forgets his lines or was late on set. You look up to people like that."

She pays tribute to Betty Driver and says: "Betty could fill a room with her presence and was such a good woman.  She looked after people and gave generously of her time and I think I've always aspired to be like that because of her. Right to the end she was giving people autographs when she went for a little walk in hospital.  She was always very kind, sometimes it's hard to be kind in this business but she always was She was a great mate, and hilarious with it. She was lovely."

Sally is starring in Ordinary Lies on BBC1 at 9pm on Tuesday nights.
