Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 18th Nov 7.30 & 8.30 pm

Lies deceit and alcohol. The three go seemingly hand-in-hand, and where continuing drama is concerned, the demon drink is the perfect plot device. Coronation Street is of no exception, and the demon drink looks to have brought two, maybe three cobbles relationships to the brink of collapse...

Cab-less following the mugging, a distressed Peter is in the back room of the Rovers and with Carla out at the conference, he’s easily drawn to the whisky bottle sat in Jenny’s decanter. When boozy Barry returns for his hipflask refilling, Peter is only too happy to assist, just bad luck that Abi is at the bar to hear all about it. Displaying concern for her sobriety sorority pal, Abi confides in Carla about her suspicions.

Carla’s ‘cupid’ stunt for Adam and Sarah does seem like psychological displacement, ignoring Peter’s war wounds and seemingly, she’d much rather mend his nephew’s woeful marriage instead. As soon as Sarah left the hotel (you can't blame the girl can you), Carla quickly took her place to share a commiserating drink with Adam. Heading home to confront Peter (assumingly full of booze herself) the audacity is quite astounding, yet, the plot and scene were set - it was obvious what was coming.

Billy’s modest archdeacon promotion may come with a massive vicarage type house but being a vicar of good standing, he decides not to take it. However, this is after Paul has perused pictures of the flash house, and a packing delivery mishap gives him ideas above his station, resigning from Underworld in a pride driven paddy. With Todd’s plotting and scheming, he simultaneously gets Paul the sack and his job back in a matter of hours. Todd makes masterful mixing seems easy - you keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. Getting Paul slightly drunk also helps!

More sobering, Craig’s off-the-record policing investigations about shifty Ray Crosby have begun in earnest but with Faye’s lofty career aspirations, I think Weatherfield’s answer to Harvey Weinstein may have more fuel for his fire. Ray is well ahead of the junior cops game though. How far will he go to keep his property development plans in place? He offered a general manager position to Michelle as well didn’t he, and we know how that turned out! With ex-mayor Sally on his case though, Ray may well have met his match!

Back at the Rovers, Peter caves in quickly and in admitting his alcohol relapse to Carla, the cracks of this relationship’s rocky road are widening. Peter’s illness is blatantly clear, and however hard he tries to disguise it to his girlfriend he’s in dangerous denial territory. Does that give Carla an excuse to get into bed with Peter’s nephew though? A troubling tryst indeed.

The main takeaway from tonight’s episode is that quasi-incestuous bedhopping Barlow's should never be underestimated. After Monday's episode aired, I did think seriously about Peter's future. As the 60th-anniversary approaches, is Peter's legacy in danger? It was the year 2000 and Corrie's 40th Birthday, that saw Ken's wayward seafaring son return just as Coronation Street was saved from the threat of bulldozers. It could almost be synchronous if Peter's final relapse coincided with Corries 60th anniversary if you get my drift?

That's if Carla's betrayal doesn't finish him off first.

I’ll leave that thought with you.

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 4th Dec 7.30 pm

It's the day of reckoning for Robert and Michelle's wedding, but will all go to plan? This cunning, conniving, and conning duo are now (ironically) more suitably matched than ever. A pairing of evil equals in slippery subterfuge. But with Michelle soon to be in sole control of the bistro, is she ready to go that one step further and humiliate Robert at the altar, in front of gathered friends and family?

Awake early, Michelle stumbles upon Robert just returning from a walk by the canal. Dressed in black, mud on boots, and acting shifty. Its all a bit suggestive, isn't it? A red herring, or has Robert done away with Vicky?

Paradoxically, the flurries of young love seem to be flourishing for new couple Emma & Seb.
But why does Seb then rebuff Emma's idea for a date? Is he playing it cool as Eileen suggests? no, he's not. He's got her tickets to see 'Bryan Maiden' - an Iron Maiden tribute act, as a surprise. I think Seb has got the hair to be a rocker but I can't see Emma moshing to 'Run to the Hills'myself?

As December dawns on Weatherfield, Billy and Sean have plans for a festive flat but Paul is triggered by Christmas trees, with memories of Kel's abuse, so Billy decides against it. As sanctimonious as ever, Sean is displeased at the lack of camp decorations! How is Billy managing to live with his new boyfriend and his ex?. Christian, it may be, but a good idea - hardly! With the cops calling him in to view the polaroids, Paul absconds from work. Contemplating in the community garden about giving evidence, David soon puts his mind at rest. Paul then decides its time to tell the factory staff of why he's absent and requesting days off.

Daniel isn't feeling very festive either. Grieving for Sinead, he immerses himself and little Bertie, in her posthumous video dairies. Is anybody else missing Sinead? I genuinely am!

At Church, my fave soap vicar (big Billy fan me), is at the helm at St Mary's and eager to host his first Weatherfield wedding (fact check - I'm unsure if it is)?
Great to see the vicar back in his cassock! At the altar, Robert gives an impassioned and honest paean in his vows (it's almost a plea, call me cynical) and it looks like the ice queen is about to melt. Fear not though, as Michelle faults not once, (a fine performance from Kym Marsh) and airs all of their dirty laundries, in front of gathered family and friends!

Classic soap wedding. Will they still get married or are this conniving duo finally over?

I'm sure we will find out more in my 8.30 pm episode review, speak in a bit!

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 27th Nov 8.30 pm

We've not had a sinister nanny on the cobbles since psycho Carmel tried to steal Martin Platt from under Gail's nose, so its certainly time for a new one. Jade is a different kind of sinister though, and tonight's episode is promising that her secret will be revealed...

Stealing a moment with Evelyn, Jade tells her that she thinks Fiz has anger issues when it comes to Hope. At The Bistro, Fiz tells Tyrone that she feels she's struggling with Hope's fire starting and general bad behaviour. Confiding in each other they agree that things need to change, but Tyrone warns Fiz to kerb her fiery temper. It's an ominous thing to say really, as later on Fiz finds matches hidden inside one of Hope's dolls (is that Jade, again?) and smashes up Hope's iPad. Has anyone not thought of more counselling for the poor girl?

In his counselling session, Paul struggles to get to grips with the repercussions of Kel's abuse but seems adamant that he wants a conviction and closure. Later on, Paul tells Bernie and Gemma of his plans, relieved almost, that Kel will be convicted and it will all be over?

Seeking legal advice from Adam, Michelle is pacified enough to tell Robert that she'd like to go ahead with the wedding. Meanwhile, Kirk fools Nick into another sneaky meeting at the pub, and the factory girls all turn-up as well, including Sarah, who just happens to have another business idea for the team...

Nina heads to A & E leaving Roy to look after Richard. An anecdotal Roy (who knew he was first-aid at stone roses seminal spike island gig), is getting to know Richard and helping with his care. Nina returns from the hospital, slightly hurt but uninjured and Roy guiltily worries about how his niece will cope. Confiding in Carla, Roy tells her he's contacted health services, to see if Richard can be re-assessed. However, as Nina was an underage carer, this has only made things worse.

As the dust settles at N0.9, Evelyn tells Jade to mind her own business when it comes to Fiz's parenting. Jade is visibly upset as she storms out of the house.

Later, and by a graveside, Jade cries and reads a poem to an offscreen tombstone

The tombstone is then revealed...

Jade is John Stape' Daughter!! It looks like Fiz better watch her back...

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 02 Oct 7.30 pm

Having put Kel in a coma, Paul seems beaten by Billy into some kind of confession /submission thus finding himself at the police station. I thought he was going to confess to the beating, but it appears the vicar wants him to confess about the abuse, instead. Will this mitigate the beating, maybe? I'm confused! Awake from his coma, Kel is faced with questioning from the police (about the beating, not the abuse, keep up). Although he lies to the cops, he still faces interrogation from Bernie.  Put off by confessing all to the police, Paul decides instead to visit Kal in the hospital instead (I'm assuming for drama purposes as that makes no sense?). Gemma is caught in the crossfire as Bernie demands answers from them both.

Also perplexing, is Sophie's decision to quit Speed Daal for a boring college course? Least Kev's in a flirtatious mood though, he's a date with a lady called Martine and jokes to Sophie about carrying a 'spanner' in his pocket. I'm unsure whether this is 'Carry On' Corrie or innuendo bingo?

Less innuendo, more #MeToo, Michelle is feeling the strain of pervy Ray and tells Robert she pulling a sickie,  dreading the prospect of going into work. Later, randy Ryan has a visit from Alya but noticing Michelle's (more mardy than usual) mood, she quickly leaves.

Meanwhile, Asha's deception of Dev continues, as she readies for her date. Dev is perturbed by Asha's teenage behaviour and quizzes Maria, and Sophie, about how to broach the subject. Realising the enormity of that error, he calls Mary instead. I was squirming at that 'birds and the bees' speech, never mind Asha!

Talking of dates, Kev is stood up at The Bistro, but consoled by a visit from Abi. Could there be slow-burning chemistry between boss and employee?

The same cant be said for Gary and Fiz I imagine but I reckon we could have a new name for Coronations Street's antique shop? I'm thinking of 'Redhead Relics'?

I'm SURE you guys can do better than that!

Gary meanwhile, is slightly sidetracked. Following Dev's dubious advice and some chivalrous spending, he's suddenly noticed that Maria (who he has shared the street with for years), is quite attractive! Is Gary about to beat-up Ali, and make Maria his new moll?

Back at the Garage, Abi is confronted by a visitor and mistakenly thinks it's Kevin's late date, but it's not, it's his sister Debbie! (played by the original actress from 1984, no less)

I wonder what she's doing on the street. Any ideas?

Keep an eye out for my 8.30 pm episode review, to find out.
