Coronation Street Episode Review; Wednesday 6th October 7.30 & 8.30 pm

Sally’s parking permit plans are going quite well, and I would hope this is the beginning of her return to a Mayor of Weatherfield role? The last time that happened, she ended up jailed, over a bizarre embezzlement charge but this time I'd hope things may be a little different! Tonight, Sally's wedding anniversary celebrations are sidelined by a letter from the council, and she ignores Tim for a meeting with Fergus. The Traffic Warden then joins them at the Bistro for their anniversary dinner. I did enjoy Tim and his jokes tonight! As a married man myself, I'm saving a few of those! Also, can we add Fergus to the cast full-time? I like him a lot. He seems to have that book-ish nerdy charm of Corrie classic Male characters such as Roy, Norris, and Brian.

Meanwhile, Sally tells Kevin she's heard nothing from Abi either. With Abi still suspected to be in Doncaster, Kevin is not taking her absconding very well. He leaves her a begging voicemail until Jack tracks down her Cousin via the internet. With no luck down that avenue, Kevin reports her as missing to the (uninterested) police. Finding £2K gone from his account, Kev is suddenly inspired to try and track Abi down and meets up with Seb’s Dad in the Dog & Gun (!) Finding out about the murder, the dodgy Dad seems subdued, telling Kev he has no idea where Abi is. Later, Seb's Dad takes a call from Abi!? What is she planning?

Corey scoring one in a mid-week midday match (a friendly, I imagine) adds more fuel for Nina and her firey feelings of vengeance. Can the goth take down the murdering footballer? I do hope so. Corrie folklore denotes that a bad boy never lasts. That said, I wouldn’t like to see Nina jailed, so I was glad when Roy cooled off the revved-up revenge idea. Could counselling work for Nina? I'd love to see Toyah do it and then set up her own office next to Imran!

Daniel's teaching life has been full pelt recently. Aside from being a single Dad, and schooling Summer Spellman, Ken reminds his son that he should still make time for romance, but will it be with Daisy? The two have got closer recently, but Daniel thinks he is out of his depth due to her obvious beauty(!) He isn’t of course and Ken is right, but can Daniel spot her malicious streak before it’s too late? Maybe he shan't have to, as a new suitor is thrown into the mix when a new character, Leo, arrives at The Rovers asking to fix Gail's sinkhole. Johnny Connor also pops in for a pint, and his spark with Jenny still seems ignited. Later, after Adi finds her plagiarised personal statement, Summer admits the truth to Daniel, and her demeanour is suddenly somewhat sunnier. I'm sure Summer fancies Daniel?

Elsewhere in Corrie tonight; The Bistro V Speed Daal curry battle hots up! Debbie delights in subterfuge bringing grumpy Zee back with a vengeance. Micheal and James discuss the police apology and (bizarrely) foreign football teams with Steve Mcdonald - who is also back for a pint. He must have come with Johnny because we viewers haven't seen either of them for ages!

Coronation Street Episode Review Sunday 20 June 2021

Father's day - Sam's first - and with Nick back on t'Street Sam has a card for him!  Just watch out for a shady character (Rhys) lurking in the Street under peaked cap.  And Summer is taking her two dads for Sunday lunch in the Bistro.  Sam wants a sleepover at the Natural History Museum - next year - this year he wants home made waffles for breakfast.  At the Bistro Billy recalls special meals with his family - always at a Berni Inn and the introduction of an avocado pear onto the menu; oddly Summer takes a toilet break which even Todd thinks is a little soon after the previous one.  A little later it is time for pud but Summer is impatient to depart - the dads send her home to a pile of work - but is there more to it than there seems?

The answer seems to be positive, back at the flat Summer puts a can in the bin and then is very unsteady, wobbling on her so sitting and looking at her shaking hands (above) before slumping sideways and passing out.  The dads are having another large glass of wine each as they are celebrating Todd moving back in permanently.

In the continuation of Tyrone's mid-life crisis, Fiz is decrying Alina's clothing choices for Ty - jeans so tight he could not sit down - and until upbraided by Chesney not allowing the girls to give Ty a father's day present.  Curtis, mixologist at the Bistro, wants to sell his late father's classic motorbike and initially Kevin buys it - but after some sweet talking by Alina she buys it as a present for Ty - it needs some work and she is looking forward to the ride of her life.  Kev does not seem too upset - and Ty is ecstatic that Alina's saving for a housing deposit is being expended on what I fear will be an expensive accident waiting to happen.

As we know Gemma has been reluctant for Aled to have a cochlear implant operation and the matter has been much discussed with the quads being largely off screen!  However after a pub discussion with Bernie and Paul she finally admits to Chesney that providing they maintain learning BSL it would help Aled if the operation goes ahead as it will give him options (above).  

Rhys is in league with Harvey and Sharon; Harvey wants Leanne given a short, sharp and appropriately encouraging reminder of just which side of her bread will get battered if she gives the wrong evidence in court.  Rhys tells Sharon he intends to do as "H" wants (send for Ted Hastings - he would soon be cooking Rhys' goose with diesel).  Sharon tries phoning Leanne but gets short shrift as she and Steve are going to see Oliver as it is a year since he died.  When they arrive back Leanne is surprised that Nick's phone is off and then hears either 3 or 4 gunshots and an Audi taking off at high tyre-squealing speed.  With Sharon looking on from the other end of Victoria Street we see a body lying by Nick's car (above).  Nick and Sam pick themselves up off the ground and Sam tells us that the Audi registration was MB03HVC, just like any other kid would!  Less amazing is that Leanne identifies Sharon in the distance before she slithers away!  The police achieve little apart from finding the burnt out TT a bit later.

Summer has not been woken by the gunfire adjacent to the flat and only comes round when her dads return.  Todd phones for an ambulance, but relents when Summer refuses.  She had had a can of "Dyno" - an energy drink of which Billy does not approve.  She is not keen on even going to see Dr Gaddas who then makes a home visit (round here you cannot even get an appointment to see a doctor at the surgery).  The dads and Dr Gaddas all think there is something wrong with Summer, possibly an eating disorder?  She refuses food and goes to the toilet again.  Billy asks Todd not to move in until Summer is back to normal.  Todd feels rejected - although to be honest I do not understand Billy's concerns - surely a resident Todd would actually make Summer feel safer and loved?

In the cafe Roy and Nina are having a heart to heart and she is unburdening herself about her father and losing him and the safety net that he provided.  Apparently Nina wants routine with The Archers at seven, fishcakes on a Friday and Scrabble.  Roy agrees that he can deliver a boring life - which is what she wants.  (We know that to achieve it she will of course have to leave the Street!).  Roy explains his phone calls - he needs to know that she is safe and she gently asks him to back off.  Nina has a present for Roy - her father's simple homemade wooden scrabble rack and Roy is pleased and can relax as Nina is on the mend.

Until "H" phoned Sharon was packing to do a runner.  He tells her off for being on Victoria Street when Rhys was doing as told.  She points out that Leanne did not need pushing - this was Nick and Sam being attacked (rather better described above!!!).  H makes it quite clear that there is no such thing as bad publicity - front page of the Evening News making it clear this is what happens if you cross Harvey Gaskell, something which Sharon should have remembered and he hangs up on her.  H phones Rhys to go home and do some housekeeping.

Natascha tells Nick that the relationship with Sam cannot carry on whilst Leanne is in danger.  Nick tells Sam that they have to stop seeing each other - for his own safety.  Nick says he will find Sam when it safe.  Natascha insists that this is the end for Sam and Nick and she takes her son away.

Sharon fails to make her getaway before Rhys turns up.  He tells her he is not keen on hitting a woman with her hands full so tells her to drop her bags (not her trousers) and we see no more.  

Leanne has been thinking about nothing else for weeks, not sleeping, worrying and seeing Natascha's face over Sam earlier has enabled her to be very aware that Harvey will always control her and many others; perhaps even Sharon wants a way out from under the evil drug lord and of course Oliver has set her free (above).  She is going into court and will tell the truth.  I would not be surprised if a much battered and bruised Sharon is also giving evidence against H on Monday.

Which wraps it up for me for tonight.  Last Friday (which is actually after I wrote this but before it airs) I had a small operation, hopefully I will be fit to pick up the baton the next time my name comes up!

Corrie Comicals week ending 19 February 2021

What do the younger generation say "Chill Grandad" or something similar - so bring back Rosie and Sophie with their offspring and Kev may find himself at home.  Indeed just about everyone got in on the act this week!  However we start with Abi unable to make the vacuum cleaner work - she should be able to do it as she is a mechanic.  However she is clearly not an electrician and with a quick push of the wall socket button (above) Seb, making a rare appearance, demonstrates the basic checks needed before getting into the mechanics!

I am not sure a walk in fridge gave Matt Hilton the best environment in which to show some unusual shots - but Emily Gascoyne hit top form with Debbie asking if the atmosphere is a little frosty and then asking if they can put their disagreement on ice?  Kev is obviously giving her the cold shoulder and her many failings to date are merely the tip of an iceberg!  She reminds Kev that he cheated on his wife and served time for assault, so neither are as pure white as the driven snow!  

Evelyn had a fun time at poor Ty's expense following the reflux episode - which as he pointed out might have been painful but it is not as bad as childbirth!  Ty is now eating Bran Flakes to keep him regular at his age and when he says he is going into town for some things she accuses him of needing dignity pants!  [And if Kev is not in work today and Abi is not in work today - who may I ask is actually mending cars in the garage when Ty goes shopping?].  {We later discover that Ty is taking up running and those of with decent memories might recall another garage owner who took up running with female accompaniment; I wonder if Alina likes exercise?}.

Well we might have had a problem understanding Kev singing Abba but he managed to be perfectly clear in asking for some warmth.  Regrettably covid-jibe time.  Abi had forced the door, Clogs Craig and Flaky Faye were just outside and yet neither of them could actually be bothered to look in to see the Webster family love in!  I hope in real life our police and other emergency services are allowed to assist people in need as this really jarred given the 30 seconds or so that Abi was sobbing having thought she had lost Kev.

Eileen asks Shona to pass on her regards to Gail on the loss of her father; Shona suggests she pops in and sees Gail herself - but Eileen has something far better to do (above).  No doubt we will be revisiting the long running feud - there have been several hints recently and it is definitely bubbling under somewhere there!

For those interested the answer to the question about minimum working temperatures is typically quoted as 16 dec Celsius, although there is no legal limitation as it depends on circumstances; I just hope that it was observed whilst filming in the fridge!  I think I will slide by the rest of the fridge jokes as they just kept going past like a sleigh on the Cresta run.

Mary's "Oh I didn't see you there" received a predictably dusty response from George (above) in Speed Dahl.  Must be the impact of those new screens obscuring your sight Mary!  Most funeral directors I know have offices - I was at a loss on Friday that he seemed to be undertaking his business either in Roy's Rolls or Speed Dahl.  Seems to be a strange way to respect the lately departed but clearly a frame of that size will need to eat regularly.

And finally, sometime in the last couple of weeks the old Council Advice Centre (which was already closed at the point at which the set extension opened) was caught in shot briefly and it had all been boarded up with temporary doors with an additional enclosed area.  Does anyone know why and what is actually behind that particular location?

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 12 February 2021

Welcome aboard the Friday night rollercoaster of Coronation Street.  

I suppose we have to start with Miles who is a dirty double crossing good for nothing lawyer.  On Wednesday he dumped Debbie in the doo-doo by telling Raving Ray of her plan to steal his business and dob him in to the rozzers.  Meanwhile Mad Mick's men (in black with a white van) have done over the Bistro and it has been boarded up.  Well he is owed £100k!  Miles assures Debbie that Ray has the papers to sign and wants his thirty pieces of silver which with inflation amounts to £30k.  Having checked his app Miles departs feeling satisfied with himself (above).  Kev has despatched Jack to camp for the night and after arguing with Abi repeatedly over covering up Raving Ray's "death" he decides to join his son at camp for the night.

Carla and Johnny are still not telling poor Jenny the truth and she is worried.  I personally doubt that he would be in prison (as previously indicated) if he is seeing ginger cats as he claims.  The hospital doctor is referring him to a psychiatrist; I would have thought that doctor who knows about optics might be more useful based on my family experiences.  Carla pleads with him to tell Jenny - he says there is nothing to tell her.  After which Jenny corners Carla on the Street and cannot get a straight answer out of her.  Carla's tea invitation is cancelled.  Johnny does finally speak to Jenny (above) telling her that he thinks he is seeing Aidan and yes he does know that is not possible.

Faye is in court today with Gary - she is charged with GBH (really it was a minor tap on the Scots bonce bone - which is pretty granite like - ABH seems more likely) - he is charged with perverting the course of justice.  We see none of this - it is all reported back by Tim and Sally who clarify that Faye is hiding in her bedroom and Gary is back in prison on remand.  Debbie offers to pay for Faye's legal representation using Ray's money (above).  Paying off Mad Mick might be a better use of the cash!

Fiz is up to something - bemoaning her fiance's devotion to a nice simple lifestyle.  Same breakfast, same packed lunch except Fridays. Boring repetitive days - 10 under a car, 11 milky coffee with iced bun, 12 on the bog with the sports page, 1pm packed lunch, 2pm under a car, 3 a tea with two sugars and a custard cream or maybe a jaffa cake!  Yes dear old boring Ty.  Would she have him any other way?  And on Fridays he always opens up for Kev.  Yes indeed they actually knew which day of the week it is!!  And Alina seems to think that Ty had a brilliant idea with her opening a nail salon and she can lift the lighter end of carpet rolls.

Leanne is enraptured with a little white feather which is a sign from Oliver.  And later using her credit card she gets a paid for online consultation with the other side.

Billy opens a delivery - Paul has sent him a juicer for Valentine's Day.  Billy does not want to keep it and talks to Paul in the factory.  Paul ordered it before the split and Billy agrees to keep it so long as Paul accepts that it is all over.  Needless to say Todd eavesdrops shamelessly (above).  Paul convinces Billy to keep it as a "splitting-up" present!  Todd later follows Billy into the Rovers later - at which point Paul dashes out - so Todd suggests he will listen whilst Billy tells him all about it.  

Fiz has to go to a school thingy and leaves Ty in charge of Gary's shop.  He and Alina return with a coffee to find a guy (Leon) loading his white van to take the best contents in the shop to a trade fair in Chichester which he arranged with Fiz on the phone yesterday.  So when Fiz comes back all having gone well at school Ty she is a little surprised by the empty shop and knows nothing of any antique fair in Chichester or any arrangements to collect items by anyone let alone Leon!

Turns out that Ray is neither dead nor confined to the flat and turns up at the Bistro.  He appears to have signed the contract handing things over to Debbie.  She gives him his passport and ticket for the flight to Turkey.  Ray insists on a drink and tells her that he knows about the double cross.  He then throws little Debbie into the walk-in fridge; he removes the internal handle and explains to Debbie that she did not pay Miles enough - so the lawyer has double cross her.  Ray has closed the door when Kev comes in and hearing his sister shouting from inside the fridge hits Ray over the head.  Kev rushes into the fridge to help her but Ray recovers and closes the door on them and removes the external handle as well.  Ray returns to the flat for his watch where is arrested as Miles has double crossed him as well.  When interviewed about bribing the planning chair Ray is able to explain that he is merely the dumb front man and the police should really be looking for Debbie the master criminal but he has no idea where she might be and could he go please as he has a flight to catch?  Meanwhile with no phone signal and everyone thinking he is camping Kev's absence is simply a lack of a phone signal in the woods.  Meanwhile they observe that that in 2021 no-one dies in fridges - politicians simply use them to hide from the press.

Which wraps it up for this week - and definitely Kev and Debbie need some extra layers!
