Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 18th Dec 7.30 pm

After my spot-on prediction last week that Vicky and Michelle were in cahoots against Robert (and no one had committed murdered) I wonder what delights my Corrie detective brain can decipher this week? Well, I for one, know that Christmas is around the corner so  Micheal's Weatherfield winter wonderland is ready for opening! Ed has been getting jiggy with it for Aggie whilst dressed as Santa, so hopefully, his loins have cooled down for the kids - that's not appropriate in 2019! Evelyn's disdain and sour sarcasm (once again) is in fine tune with my feelings about this festive 'fever'. I get the feeling though that Michael is doing all this for Grace and Tianna so that's alright actually.  Is he setting himself up for a fall?

At the hotel room, Vicky is on the phone to Michelle whilst grabbing at her stomach. My detective skills deduce that this baby is due, and anytime soon - maybe Christmas week? I also wonder how short-lived Maria's pregnancy will be - can we expect a full-term like Vicky? Meanwhile, new baby daddy Gary is busy with underhand loan shark tactics and collars Ryan for another payment (Maria's handbags, high-end flats, and 4 wheel drives won't pay for themselves)! Ryan offers to be Gary's lackey in lew of payment. 

Vicky also seems intent on fleecing Robert, by taking some sort of share in the Bistro sale.
Tyler visits his Mum to discuss the plan, which proves that he is also in on the act. Perverting the course of justice? I imagine he would be the 'fall guy' in this little set-up. I envisage seeing Michelle & Vicky heading off to Ireland together after the baby is born? The £70K offer (although £30K short) seems too good offer to turn down and the 'mystery buyer' seems a tad suspect? I've seen spoilers that confirm my suspicions but I'm not revealing that here...

Over at Richard's flat, Roy is on hand to attend to his brother's needs as the health visitor is due for the first appointment. I've really enjoyed these two fine actors together on screen and with his illness being terminal, its a shame this brotherhood will be short-lived. I wish I had a brother like Roy actually, talk of trains and factual anecdotes -  it sounds great. My brothers just watch football - how droll! anyway, I digress. With Aggie on hand at Roy's Rolls, the freezer packs in, and Roy is called back to work. Later, and with Nina at college, Richard's left alone and gets caught in a coughing fit, collapsing into unconsciousness.

Rita is also on her own (again) and failing to entertain Evelyn in the rovers snug gambling den, her mood remains unchanged. The street icon looks to be caught up in some serious, and rather unseasonal, solitary sadness. We can guess that this another issue-based story on the horizon. Do we need the realism, or would you prefer faux festive cheer?

With seasonal cheeriness in mind,  Roy heads back to the flat but is too late when finding Richard unconscious -yet he still calls the ambulance. The paramedics arrive yet struggle to stabilise Richard and Nina arrives home just in time to hear her father being pronounced dead.

Ho!Ho!Ho!

Well, my detective skills are still struggling to decide whether this year will be a winter wonderland or a miserable Weatherfield Christmas. What are your thoughts?

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 13th Nov 8.30 pm

At Richard's bedside (a lot of bedside's tonight) Roy admits that he's his half-brother and they share the same Mother in Sylia. Shocked, Richard (Malcolm from WATCHING) reveals to Roy that he'd known since childhood, but didn't know his Father as he was sadly adopted. If I'm honest, I think its a pity Wayne isn't here to see this, but some superb acting, and it's awesome to see David Neilson tackling something gritty.

Confiding in Nina, Carla is quick to sing Roy's praises to his new niece. Like I said in tonight's first review, she's 100% Carla again, with added vulnerability-I love it.

Family ties are also on Steve's mind, he's taking the girls out of the flat, with Tim, to a Weatherfield County game. After the game, Amy decides its time Steve took her to see 'Little Mix' in concert. It's great to see the girls annoying Steve, isn't it? I wonder where this is heading.

Banishing Vicky to her maternity appointment, Robert is quick to cover his tracks, with Michelle heading back to bedside base. Using Ali as a ruse, Robert tells Michelle that her Doctor son is harbouring a drug addiction. How low with this guy go? Michelle is shocked and swiftly leaves the hospital. Back at the Bistro, Ali tells his Mum the truth but also airs his suspicion about Robert's timing of this announcement. Michelle agrees and seeks confrontation with her fiance.

With Michelle soon heading back to the hospital, Vicky leaves, and Robert has the same idea, deciding to discharge himself and hoping to avoid a Michelle / Vicky clash. Too little too late though, as out of his earshot, a nurse tells Michelle that Robert has had another female visitor. Back home, Michelle announces she's heading out to a meeting, and Robert is soon on the phone to Vicky. Searching 'paternity rights' on his laptop, has Robert had a change of heart... again?

Meeting with Carla, Michelle asks Carla to cover a few more  Bistro shifts and confides in her about Roberts recent (months!!) suspicious activity and shows concern.

Can Carla help Michelle, and finally get her comeuppance on Robert?. If you remember, the night before the factory roof collapse, he gave Carla a serious threat-so let's hope so. I wouldn't want to cross Carla, Michelle, AND Vicky, Would you?

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 13th Nov 7.30 pm

Say what you want about Corrie in 2019, but one thing you can't fault them on is continuity...

Sinead's cancer diagnosis and subsequent tragic death were bookended by children's book classic 'Were going on a bear hunt' and Gary's loanshark logbook has longstanding in his recent turn to the dark side. For those of us that relish in such detail (me), it's a nice touch. I  also remember writing the episode review when Vicky gave Robert a 'big daddy' dog tag, some months ago, and didn't think any more of it; until Monday night that is. This tacky father-to-be gift made a reprisal, at Robert's bedside, following his monumental Macclesfield car crash.

For some months we've watched Michelle fall for his ridiculous lies, yet it's only now and with the reappearance of the tag, and his 'baby' mumbles whilst on morphine, that Michelle's slowly become aware of Robert's duplicitous behaviour? Even in scrubs and severely injured, Robert still manages to lie to Michelle, when a nurse remembers him from the maternity visits, and he sneakily hides the daddy dog tag! Conning whilst convalescing!
I've enjoyed this storyline if I'm honest and It's nothing to do with the gorgeous Kerry Quinn (Vicky) and THAT accent! she's brilliant, isn't she?

We know Robert and Michelle are soon departing, but PLEASE can we keep Vicky on the street?

Talking of gorgeous bolshy brunettes, Carla's concern with Roy's scrabble brain and his half-brother is also nice to see. Back to 100% Carla best, she's even covering the Bistro for Michelle whilst Robert recuperates. Dragging Roy back to Richard's (Malcolm from WATCHING) flat, his brother has a visit from a Nurse, and it's revealed he has a terminal breathing condition. Roy reveals himself as 'Batman' (online scrabble name) and it seems Richard is pleased for the company.  His daughter Nina though is less than impressed, the goth clothes are a slight giveaway. It's been years since the street had a goth (if you remember Rosie & Craig) it's nice to see a new one!

Back on Coronation Street, Steve struggles to live with both his daughters. Busy badgering Amy for restarting a friendship with Tyler, Emma is left playing peace-maker. There's little peace for Tyler though, as a panicked Vicky decides to head back to the hospital for a check-up.

Also seeking peace, Bernie badgers Gemma and Chesney into the fresco deal to cover her £500 hotel mini-bar bill. Agreeing to talks with the supermarket, Weatherfield's finest food supplier offers them a £50K quad marketing deal!! It's quids in for the quads!

Arriving at the hospital, Vicky sees the nurse (who earlier recognised Robert) and heads straight to his bedside. Luckily, Michelle is elsewhere, but how long can Robert keep this up?

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 2 August

Evening Corrie fans, it’s Kelly here with your Friday night review.

In the Rovers as Ed begins his measuring up for Jenny’s improvements, Princess Kate takes her flounce-o-meter up to 11 and stomps off the Bistro to earn the £3,000 she needs for her world tour. When she and the rest of the Bistro staff walk in on Robert as he is on yet another call to Vicky, he hastily hangs up and asks which of them wants to be the Assistant Manager in Michelle’s absence. Carla turns it down so Princess Kate is immediately promoted. Out of earshot Robert tells Ryan to share the information on their WhatsApp group.

Peter is hanging about in the Bistro too (anyone know what he’s doing for money?). His comment that it’s strange that Robert can work with young offenders when he has a criminal record piques Carla’s curiosity. She questions him about it just as his phone starts pinging again with Vicky’s messages, making him even more flustered and shady. When Carla takes his phone, he panics and spills all about the Spying-on-Carla WhatsApp group. With Robert’s phone she sends a message saying that Carla has gone mad and is smashing up the Bistro. This brings the whole group: Peter, Johnny, Kate, Ryan and Roy (who doesn’t have a phone but is joining in vicariously through Peter) running over. Having unmasked their not so cunning plan a furious Carla rails at them all for keeping tabs on her, quits her job and tells Peter she wants him to move out of the flat. Hell hath no fury like a Carla spied on!

Having basically ruined everyone’s day, Robert uses the kerfuffle to sneak out and visit Vicky. He finds her getting cosy on the sofa with her ex, Tyler’s dad.  Although he denies it, there’s a flicker of jealousy in his eyes. Vicky tells him she needs more than he is offering her and that her ex has asked her and Tyler to move back to Ireland with him and make a go of it together.

Back on the Street, Princess Kate is in best hard-done-by mode, pitting her Dad against Jenny and bleating that she won’t be pushed out of her own home (the one she doesn’t pay for and has only lived at for the last five months). If I was Jenny I’d tell Johnny to give Kate the three grand. The B&B might have to be put on hold but at least she wouldn’t have to keep looking at that sour face.

Meanwhile Claudia is continuing her valiant attempt to declutter No.1 and questions why on earth Ken (or indeed anyone) would need half a dozen ‘World’s Greatest Teacher’ mugs and more than one terrible brown sweater. He tells her the sweaters were all a present from the much-missed Blanche, (who’s plan was clearly to make him look like a dork from beyond the grave). When Claudia comments that she’s unsure that she wants to live in the flat she’s bought, Ken assumes that she’s angling to move in with him. She responds that she cherishes her independence, which unfortunately I don’t think was code for I’d prefer a boyfriend with at least one bit of home furnishing from this century.

Across the road Abi has is having a great time back at the garage and has even managed a sideline in posting Kevin’s alpha-male bon mot’s (which are mostly about chips) online. When Sally see’s her hanging on Kev’s every word she assumes it must be because she fancies him. It’s an easy mistake to make because having been married to Kev, Sal is obviously well aware that if wit was shit he’d be constipated. 

When not recording Kev Abi spots Jan getting in a car with Rachel and clocks that he spends half an hour talking to her and that she hands him a phone. I’m rather liking Abi as a one-woman-crime-fighting-unit. Last week she took down a home-invader, this week she’s spying on a human-trafficking ring, next week I reckon she could single-handedly uncover a fiendish North Korean plot to unleash a band of killer robots disguised as cats onto the world. You read it here first.

In the car dastardly Rachel tells Jan that there’s a new group of 15 arriving from Albania and that he better not mess it up. He promises her that Seb is history and she’ll never hear from him again. But having been tipped off by Abi, Seb is waiting for Jan at No. 11. He confronts him about Rachel but Jan denies everything. Seb threatens to tell Eileen just as the woman herself walks in and demands the truth. Jan covers his tracks and says he too has found out about the people trafficking but that he’s not involved. With Eileen convinced of his innocence he sneaks out and retrieves the phone and we hear him tell Rachel that everything is sorted and then ask when the next trafficked people are arriving in the UK. Good to know that Eileen's amazing talent for picking a wrong 'un hasn't let her down!
