Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 13 June 2025

Good evening.  I have returned and will therefore provide a brief update of events on Friday night.  Much centred around the Platt household who were having a house re-warming episode to exorcise Gail and to show off all the new furniture and decorations in the house.  This is mainly a barbecue in the garden but David is keen to show off the new furniture including the table for which an oak tree died and on which Shona is not permitted to place any nibbles when the family start arriving.  Audrey has decided that instead of a family party she is going to a farewell drinks do with her former neighbours in Grasmere Drive, whilst there are ructions when Shona admits to asking Leanne (who cannot make it) as Nick is keen to remind her of the sins which Leanne committed.  They all express views on how they might redecorate their pads - all sound a little outrageous!

A running sore throughout the episodes is Lou (and her children) who has a run in with Maria in the first two minutes after advising Liam not to get stressed over his chemistry GCSE if he is not going to be a scientist.  Later she observes Audrey put the salon cash takings (really?) in a brown envelope and give them to Shona for banking as David had forgotten to do it.  Shona leaves her phone on the salon counter.  Lou tells Brody that the family need to do more to fit in if living around the Street but he is not bothered, nor will he pick up the girls later so Lou leans on Tim who collapses without much resistance and agrees to look after them.  Joanie and Shanice are watching television quite politely when Sal returns from work.  Tim sells it to Sally as getting some practice in before the social workers appear again.  Sal defers her planned beauty session and comes downstairs moaning about Tim's untidy habits and voices get raised.  The two girls get quite upset.  Eventually peace is restored and we learn about the arguments in the girl's house. Later Tim and Sally start wondering if Lou is a fit mother and that perhaps Lou should not be permitted to collect the girls.  They believe that something must be done.

Along at Carla's flat Lisa is house hunting and staring at remote country cottages whilst Carla has her heart set on a city centre, open floor plan with a roof terrace and a coffee shop less than 2 minutes away.  So this is going to be hard to achieve.  Lisa is quite dismissive of the floor to ceiling windows in these loft places!  Carla suggests Ancoats and apparently you need £0.5m!  Betsy appears from the bedroom and the house hunting computer is rapidly closed.  Betsy makes an excuse that she is seeing Dylan today so cannot go to lunch with her mother.  She is of course lying and with new bestie Lauren the two of them are at the local prison waiting to see Logan Ratcliffe, although he is not so keen to see them it seems.  However Steve is able to tell Lisa at lunchtime in the Rovers that Betsy and Lauren are in prison visiting someone - Highfield.  Logan eventually emerges and effectively plays with her wish to know the truth - asking for money and implying he might know more than he probably does.  Eventually admits he is winding Betsy up.  Betsy returns home and is challenged by Lisa.  After some discussion the great soap lie emerges "no more secrets" and they tell Betsy about buying a house together and that the allegation against Becky were falsified.  They settle down on the sofa and start looking at properties on the interwebby thingy.

Whilst David and Nick argue over the barbecue Lou pops into return Shona's phone and gets invited to stay for a drink, Maria's body language at Lou's arrival is worth a thousand words. Gary arrives a little later with Vin Diesel which David thought had been put in the skip but it was rescued and as Gary has not sold it he donates it back to David.  Gary gets himself a drink and exchanges a few words with Lou which leads to Maria storming across the garden to pick a fight with the woman chatting to her man.  Gary tells her to back off.  Later food is being consumed even if the courgette is completely cremated and Maria spots Lou slipping indoors.  Nick proposes a toast to the Platts - love, peace and harmony.  When Lou comes down from the toilet she is tempted by the salon cash and goes to Shona's bag looks at it and puts it back - Maria comes in and after exchanging words there is a scuffle.  Glass smashes and Lou is lying on the remains of that nice new table.

In the interest of trying to put things right Gary, as the only sober person, takes Lou, who claims she was pushed, to hospital.  He argues with Maria and Shona proves the money is still in her bag.  At the hospital Lou is patched up in no time at all with a couple of stitches and Gary convinces her not to report it to the police after admitting that things are not good between him and Maria at present.  He returns home where he catches David and Maria talking and he gets the hump saying that having heard both sides he reckons that Lou's story is more credible.  Later Maria challenges Gary saying that he fancies her - he tells her she is being ridiculous and later he goes off in a huff.  Lou phones Tim who is talked into letting them have a sleepover - so there is no-one to be able to give an alibi for either Lou or Gary so I think we can all guess what might happen next.  What does happen is that the police come into the Rovers and Maria is arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm against Louise Michaelis.  .

There were some scenes involving George and Todd both pining for Eileen and Theo respectively.  I think they were supposed to be comedic but sad people do not always make for strong comedy.  As ever the Platt family en famille were highly entertaining and long may that continue.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 30 May 2025

Good evening.  Tonight we say bon voyage to Julie and and I shall not carp about the send off she is given with funeral car and a right royal drinks session in the Rovers later.  We open with George in touching mode telling Julie that the day is about her and that Eileen will pull through.  There is a pot bellied pig to accompany Julie as she was mad for them and for the Beautiful South.  Apparently Theo is tied up with a job so will not join them at the wake (he is needed in Ambridge for his 40th birthday party next week too, but the rumour is that he will not make it).  [I had not previously noticed that Hays Travel has gone and the unit is boarded up with only Sainsburys having a presence.]  Eileen has found a letter for Brian in Julie's documents.  After the service, back in the Rovers, we discover that whilst in Wrexham Julie was playing netball and learning Welsh.  Eileen is kicking herself for not seeing her.  There is a special memory book behind the bar.  Theo arrives.  Brian confronts Eileen with the contents of the letter - which includes the life assurance policy which previously Eileen did not admit to receiving.  Why did Eileen lie?  Tracy weighs in suggesting the Eileen buy them all another round.  An argument blows up out of nothing.  Tracy reminds everyone about the attempted embalming - so the money was to be split three ways.  This winds up Eileen enough to throw a glass of prosecco over Tracy.  George advises that the Wrexham Girls have gone home for a match and all of the funeral plans are worthless observes Eileen her tone of voice blaming George who is feeling like a punchbag.  Anyway Julie has a game she wants them to play.  Tracy whispers something in Steve's ear about her and Tommy and he departs immediately.  On the next round George turns to Eileen and proposes marriage.  She does not respond as there is a new rover returning - Jason has arrived and Eileen gives him a huge hug.

Brody and his mother discuss Mick's plea hearing.  Mick does not want Brody present.  Apparently Brody is about to sit his GCSEs and should be revising.  The hearing is also discussed between Kit and Sarah - the former only wants to hear Mick confirm that he is guilty as he cannot deny it.  Mick reveals to Lou that Kit hired the hit men who did him over.  Kit will want to get to know Brody and then rekindle matters with Lou - which seems unlikely to me.  Later Lou is able to tell Bernie that Mick is pleading not guilty.  She also tells Bernie that Kit had Mick beaten up.  Lou tells Brody she will deal with Kit.  Lou arrives at Kit's front door to deliver a piece of her mind.  She says that Brody is not Kit's so he is to stay away from Brody.  Sarah has not taken the news of Kit's fatherhood well.  Lou warns Brody to stay away from Kit and not exact any revenge, but he is not listening.

Maria is surprised to hear that Liam is at the builder's yard as he should be revising for his GCSEs.  Gary is ambivalent.  He has Ed working for him from today and is not sure Ed will take well to having a kid around.  However it might be a better experience than with Mick and Maria suggests that Liam should be Ed's gopher.  Ed decides to send Liam to get a tin of elbow grease but Gary catches it before it gets out of hand and Lian reverts to hiding in his bedroom from all these workplace bullies.  Gary later phones Liam to apologise but it goes to answering machine.  Ed is able to reassure Gary that Liam looks up to Gary and his tool belt.  He adds Liam will be all right.

Carl is suddenly under cars at Kev's garage and his new found colleague Fiona is soon on the phone saying that there is a car available for an MoT.  Tyrone is having to look after Dorin so Kev (who has had his hair cut short) is willing to have Carl working there.  Later Abi makes it clear that she does not believe Carl is doing this for Kev.  They argue and she goes to get him a pasty so he can phone Fiona and get the car delivered - FD61 DWY.  Abi returns with a very hot pasty and catches Carl looking at the MoT forms - as if he knows what he is doing.  Later she watches him not doing very much to the car and it seems Fiona has another car needing attention already.

Noah, the clerk at St Saviour's who has helped Billy with the funeral arrangements, comes into the Rovers prompting Theo to leave to make a call.  It transpires that Noah was one those who prayed over Theo during his conversion therapy.  Theo and Todd are polite to Noah - although Todd is clearly seething.  Eventually Noah departs so Theo can calm down.  Todd follows Noah into the street and challenges him.  Noah responds that he hates the sin not the sinner but Theo is displeased by Noah and his holier than thou attitude.  Noah is taking a taxi home and asks Steve if he can hire the Community Centre and asks about embalming the body before the autopsy and that possibly Eileen did alright on the life insurance so it might look dodgy.  Steve takes his fare away.

George does not get his answer - Eileen thinks he is joking and later tells him that she has not wanted to hear the proposal because she does not want to marry him.  Jason has been dumped by Lynsey he reports and Mary is organising karaoke.  Jason does not appear likely to be waiting long for his next conquest as Glenda makes her availability abundantly clear.  Mary and Brian tunelessly launch into "Islands in the Stream".  Billy introduces Noah to Todd and Todd's boyfriend Theo and they all shake hands with neither Theo or Noah referring to past knowledge of each other.  Eileen makes a brief speech about Julie and then stumbles so Todd steps in to reference Julie's reunion with Brian and her support for Theo as Todd's boyfriend.  He finishes with saying Julie will be really missed. And proposes a drink in her honour.  After a failed apology by George, Eileen decides she has had enough and goes home.  George eventually follows her and promises not to talk about the proposal but cannot help himself.  Eileen is honest  in saying that she did not want to hear the proposal because she did not want to hurt him - but she does not want to marry him, she wants to feel that she should want to marry him - but she doesn't.  George is of course very hurt.

Good to see Jason back, obviously we all know that it is not going to last but I hope that he and Eileen can enjoy the next few days.  Noah is obviously the next baddie on the Street - for some value of "baddie".  And given all the people who know about Kit's involvement in Mick's assault you wonder how long the secret can stay that way.  Of course Gary murdered Rana and Rick Neelan and has yet to pay the price (unless you count being married to Maria).  It was also odd that Noah seemed to know about the allegations about Eileen / George etc as the contretemps happened prior to his arrival.

Before I go I may or may not be here for the next two weeks.  I am heading for a week in the Azores and fitting in writing these reviews may not be possible or at least one of them will be very short.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 14 March 2025

Evelyn is back on t'Street walking from the tram stop towards Ty's but missing daughter Cassie tucked up in sleeping bag in the ginnel opposite Speed Dahl.  Ken has gone on a break in the Lake District and he will be joined by Steve and Amy this evening but he has phoned Evelyn and given her an update and asked her to ensure that Cassie is safe and warm as he is remains concerned about her.  So she asks Ty nicely - but he is not going to bend even slightly.  Evelyn has a new haircut and new glasses.

Steve is in the cab office where Tracy wants some small talk and Steve asks after Tommy O - Tracy admits that Tommy loves football more than her so it is over.  She is surprised to hear that Ken has headed to the Lakes to clear his head with Keats and Wordsworth.  A little later she spots a dishevelled Cassie and even from a distance she can smell a sewer rat.  Tracy goes to the police station but PC Tinker is able to confirm that in the absence of a statement from Ken they will not be arresting Cassie much to Tracy's displeasure.

Lou and Mick have reconciled as they always do and are demonstrating that in Roy's Rolls in front of Daisy who reckons that Mick is a caveman.  In the Rovers a little later Mick wants a beer - and after some pressure asks more politely.   Daisy reminds him that he was contemplating cheating on Lou without a second thought and it was a good thing Daisy came to her senses.  Mick starts arguing with Daisy and Jenny appears and says that given his behaviour he can leave now.  He calls the ladies the doo-lally duo.  But he goes.   Daisy assures Jenny she could handle it - but Jenny says that they are always better as a team - Daisy is not so sure.  Jenny says to Rita that Daisy is headstrong and Rita asks if that reminds Jenny of anyone.  Rita assures Jenny that Daisy will forgive her, eventually.  Rita suggests Jenny back off for a bit.

Sarah is starting to feel that David, Shona and Lily (who is allegedly untidy) have outstayed their welcome and David senses his sister's disquiet - especially as David cannot do the ironing with his left arm broken.  He therefore asks Audrey if they can move into Grasmere Drive now that Harvey is no longer chasing them.  Audrey says she will think about it.  Later in the Bistro Audrey discusses it with Rita.  Gail is apparently having the time of her life Audrey reports.  Evelyn joins them and catches up on her alcohol deficit quickly.  Audrey has decided that she will help David as much as possible now that he has come to realise what is important.

Dee Dee is now very pregnant as we have not seen her for weeks and the pregnancy is progressing well.  She has to remind Ed that she will be arranging for the baby to be adopted once born - which Ed is having trouble accepting.  Dee Dee is not even sure she will hold the baby once born.  Dee Dee talks it over with Bernie - Ed holds out some slight hope that a baby might bring Aggie back into the family.  Bernie knows that Dee Dee has the baby's best interests at heart.  Bernie talks about giving up Kit but recalls that she knew she could not provide the care the baby needed.  As with Kit somewhere there is an amazing parent waiting to do the same for Dee Dee's baby.  Later Ed resolves that he cannot let Dee Dee go through with her decision.  Ed phones someone (not Michael as he is on holiday with Glory) and asks him / her to get to Weatherfield as soon.

Debbie is putting rubbish in the bin in the ginnel when we hear Tracy sounding like she is buying drugs from a dealer at the other end of the ginnel.  Tracy spots Debbie as she turns to go in.  Later Tracy invites Cassie in the back door of Number One as she wants to thrash out their problem.  Tracy has made lunch - leek and potato soup!  Cassie waits until Tracy has tasted it to ensure that it is not poisoned.  Banoffee pie for afters.  Cassie admits to missing Ken as he is good company.  Amy apparently calls him "Grandad Google".  Oddly despite her thieving Cassie also demonstrates to Tracy that she does actually care about Ken - his back, his pills and well being.  Eventually Tracy comes to the point.  She offers Cassie a wrapper of drugs and pushes it over the table to her.  Cassie cannot help herself and puts it in her pocket.

Mick and Lou return to the Rovers and he remembers to say please when ordering the drinks.  Mick cannot let it lie and raises the subject of events yesterday.  Daisy calls to Lou and advises her that they kicked Mick out of the pub earlier in the day, explaining that he had come onto Daisy yesterday.   Mick denies it.  Unusually for Corrie Lou believes her husband and makes to attack Daisy who shuts the bar counter,  Lou is in fighting mood until Jenny confirms Daisy's story indicating that Jenny thought they would need to throw a bucket of water over Mick.  He feigns ignorance.  Jenny tells them both to get out now.  Both leave by the back door (to go to the ginnel and their back door in case anyone wants to know why they do not leave by the front door).  Later Jenny and Daisy talk in the back and both effectively apologise for their behaviour.  Daisy admits she is not coping well.  Now more relaxed Jenny asks if she has talked properly to Daniel.  Jenny says they are crazy about each other and Jenny is trying to save themselves a lifetime of misery.   She says Daisy and Daniel are like Kermit and Miss Piggy - they are meant to be together.  She tells Daisy to fight for it.

Audrey gets Sarah and David to sit down.  She has decided to sell Grasmere Drive to provide the money to rebuild number eight.  It will be David's inheritance when she dies.  And there will be more money than enough.  Audrey will downsize.  Sarah is not in favour of this solution.  Later in the Bistro however David agrees to the deal and then Audrey delivers the killer blow - stairs are getting a challenge so she will move into the annex of number eight and David can move upstairs.

Evelyn finally finds Cassie in Victoria Gardens and takes her back to the Dobbs residence to see if the damage can be repaired.  Evelyn does not deliver a big lecture - it would not achieve much.  She does say that nobody throws her daughter on the street even if she deserves it.    However neither Tyrone or Fiz is in forgiving mood.  Tyrone is not willing to listen - even though Ken does not want Cassie sleeping rough.  Ty particularly does not want Cassie around the girls.  Cassie accepts his refusal and leaves.  Evelyn follows her but Cassie knows that Ty is right and she is a disgrace of a human being.  Cassie tells Evelyn to trot off back to University and pretend that her daughter never existed.  Evelyn gives Cassie money for a hotel for the night - which Cassie eventually takes.  Back at Victoria  Gardens  she is going through the bin where she threw the wrap of drugs from Tracy when PC Tinker interrupts her.  She claims she was looking for a tram ticket.

For the second time recently Debbie has no knowledge of what the other person is talking about - in this case Tracy trying to explain a drug deal was not a drug deal.  Debbie is insistent she knows nothing - which suits Tracy's agenda perfectly.  Debbie says her eyesight is not that good and it gets passed off.

Daisy arrives at Daniel's flat with a bottle with the intention of getting drunk.   Daniel invites her in and she apologises.  Daniel asks if they are getting back together and she uses a double negative and a split infinitive which Daniel is not sure he can forgive.  They soon kiss and make up.

Tracy tells Steve over a microwaved meal that she is thinking of moving back in (well Tommy has ended the tenancy).  She says she wants to make sure that Cassie does not worm her way back in.  Tracy later overhears Cassie on the phone to someone who will deliver something she really needs in the morning as there is no stock this evening.  Tracy is convinced that her offer of drugs has worked and that Cassie will soon be gone completely.

Only one brief visit to the police station and none to the hospital - things are looking up.  And a multitude of stories and even some humour.  At this rate we might soon have a programme worth watching all over again.  Although there is a long way to go.  Much better than some I have watched recently.
