Sue Devaney, who plays Debbie Webster in Coronation Street, is leaving the show.
Sue's character will be diagnosed with dementia.
According to reports, Devaney had no intention of leaving and “couldn’t believe it” when she was blindsided by the revelation.
“Sue was very shocked when she discovered she was being killed off,” a source told The Sun.

It's such a pity that the character is being killed off. Debbie Webster is a fantastic role model for women everywhere. She's a successful business
woman, she's sparky, funny and cheery with a lovely loyal fella. I know if a character is popular, and then struck down with an illness, there's more reason for an audience to tune in, so I suppose that's why they choose Debbie. Such a shame though.
I'm guessing the online petition has been completely ignored. I feel really sorry for her. She should quit now in disgust and avoid this embarrassing exit.
I love Debbie, such a slinky little firecracker. And her wardrobe! Her hair! Love the character and will be sad to see her go.
