Coronation Street Episode Review 8 April 2022

Evening Corrie fans, it’s Kelly here with your Friday night review.

(Other) Kelly is still refusing to go and see her mum, who only has hours to live. Maria takes her to the Hairdressing Awards, where she nags her almost continuously about going to the hospital. She’s then genuinely surprised when the teenager starts necking the free champagne. I did wonder for a bit if she was just doing it so she’d have some handy corks to stick in her ears.
Kelly wins Best Trainee Stylist, and gives a bitter, tipsy interview saying she’s happy she’s going to be an orphan soon, before getting bundled off the stage by Gary. It’s all laughs today on Corrie.

Meanwhile Sam is in the chess tournament final which is being inexplicably held at the Bistro. What would the organisers have done for a venue if one of the contestant’s dads didn’t own a restaurant? Sam’s opponent is a girl called Jalena who beats him, causing him to go off in a strop and lock himself in the office. But later she reappears and asks him to be her chess buddy.
In other news, Faye is milking getting a pregnant test wrong by sitting under a blanket looking miserable and getting tea bought to her. Craig offers to cheer her up by taking her bowling, but when that doesn’t work, he suggests they try properly for a baby. He’s not a very imaginative boy is he. Also, Nicky interrupts Daniel and Daisy’s date to announce she has got the teaching assistant job.

John is getting his flight to Australia today. He tells Emma to drop everything and come with him, which she agrees to. Presumably they both think they can pick up a visa from the WH Smiths at Manchester airport?

They only problem is she hasn’t told Steve she’s leaving. Gathering her dad, Tracy and Amy in Speed Daal, Emma tells them that she’s in love and wants to do something romantic and spontaneous. Unsurprisingly Steve is not happy and tries to forbid his daughter from going. But she eventually talks him round and he gives her his blessing. And so lovely Emma leaves in the taxi of destiny, waved off by her family and friends. Even Audrey comes out of the Rovers to say goodbye, Though I like to imagine she necked her double g&t first!
Back in the hospital Laura passes away, spectacular eyebrows still intact. Kelly has finally decided she does want to see her, but she arrives too late and is left sobbing over her mum’s body. As I say, it was a barrel of laughs tonight.

And that’s it for this week. If anyone has got anything a bit cheery to say to make up for that final scene, please do let me know in the comments or on twitter @mskelstar. I’m quite partial to a smutty limerick.

You deserve an award for sacrificing your precious time to continue to convince me that taking a Corrie break since November was a tonic for my sanity !! I continue to enjoy your contributions and learn more in three minutes reading that 42 minutes viewing. I know you’ll tell me when it really is safe to go back in the water!

This is beginning to feel like super soap week all over again! First, a show that I was watching on the Sunday before has a so-called “anti-climax” with the other person winning that same show! It happened in October with “Junior Eurovision Éire” 2021 on TG4, and this month with “All Star Musicals” on ITV. Then the day I take a break from school, a character dies!!! It happened in October with Johnny Connor, and this month, it was Laura Neelan that kicks the bucket! Honestly, it’s like deja vu here!!!!

A Limerick, you say?

A Soap Opera set on The Street,
Really ought to be such a treat,
But the plots are all rotten,
And so easily forgotten,
We're all switching off in defeat!
