After four years on Coronation Street playing Emma Brooker, Alexandra Mardell is leaving the show later this year.
In a public statement, she says:
"Playing Emma, on the most iconic series there is, has been the best experience of my life. 4 years has gone so fast. Compared to other cast members, I still feel like a newbie which makes my decision to leaev all the more difficult. But now is the right time as a number of exciting opportunities beckon. Although who knows, maybe the street hasn't seen the last of Emma Brooker. I can't thank everyone at Coronation Street enough for welcoming me and trusting me to tell so many wonderful and heartfelt stories. And of course for the friendships with the amazing fans. When I see pink, I will always think of Emma."

Emma is such a kind and sweet Character, wishing Alexandra all that is good and safe with the hope we'll meet again.
This is disappointing, but I can't say I blame her as Emma's character has repeatedly been the victim of poor writing. The decision to close the salon and the fact that any Rovers-related drama revolves around Jenny and Daisy meant there were no work-based plots for Emma. She didn't have a clearly defined social circle - she's been best pals with Bethany, Gemma, Alina and now seemingly Faye all within a few years.
Pairing her up with somebody she played well off or giving her something to so like they've done with Shona and the Kabin (even if Shona isn't allowed inside) might have enticed Alexandra to stay.
Such a sweet and kind character, Emma will be missed yet hopefully will pop back along the Street every now and again.
What?! Aw say it ain't so!
At least they're not killing her off, which leaves the door open for her to come back.
Really, she's a breath of fresh air in whatever scene she's in, so it's really disappointing to see her go :(
Ah, what a pity. But I agree with Charles.
Her hair/ beauty career somehow disappeared, and she's had no proper love interest, apart from the ill- fated Curtis.
She's also been mates with Amy, her half- sister.
I reckon street bosses wanted to keep her (young female characters are good for romance, secrets, pregnancy and affairs) but by the sound of that statement, she was offered work elsewhere.
Another nice one going, hopefully not too be replaced by another nasty character
I'm not sure if my previous comment will turn up. Alexandra's exit could mean Emma's headed for prison. Craig might drunkenly reveal the truth about Ted, and a court would decide Emma was responsible for not properly supervising a learner driver.
@Humpty, you may be right. I hope you're not, but no death/secret goes uncovered forever in soapland.
Oh no - sad news indeed! Such a lovely character played by a great actress. I wish Alexandra all the best.
I wish her well in her future endeavors. She has not been given the writing she deserves. Hooking her up with Faye was a terrible mistake.
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Not our Emma!!!!!
