Vernon's song: (Don't You Fall Into) The Mason's Arms

As Liz stood looking embarassed in the back room of the Rovers tonight in Coronation Street, Vernon belted out his feelings in a song. And what a song. Well done Corrie writer Carmel Morgan. It went something like this:

When you said "I do" I guess your heart wasn't in it
And when you said "Not now" I knew I'd never win it
But there's danger at that bar flap
You know I mean the tall chap
Don't you fall into the Mason's Arms

Give that sharp suit a miss, hear the beat of my drum
That bookie spells heartache and the odds are two to one
I'm begging and a-pleading
Mayday, Mayday
Crying and a-pleading
Mayday, Mayday
Imploring and beseeching, begging and pleading
That you won't submit to the Mason's charms
You won't fall into the Mason's arms
You won't submit to the Mason's charms

Let that Rover Return
Let's begin the Beguine
Sow the seeds of happiness then harvest all those dreams
Oh, we just curl up on the sofa with tea and Gypsy Creams
So don't you fall into
Don't you give into
Don't you submit to the Mason's charms
Don't you fall into
Don't you give into
Don't you submit to the Mason's charms

I am not a fan of any soap, but by chance caught this song tonight on Irish television. The song, and especially, the singer, were each so moving. Is the actor a professional singer with anything out on a CD? I'd really like to know, as I thought he was terrific.

thanks, John P.

It was tremendous. I'm not sure if the actor is a singer too although he sure sounded like it on screen. I'm hoping it'll come onto YouTube too.

Hopefully it'll be on youtube, classic Vernon. I can't believe they're getting rid of him. Best character on any soap.
