Reece Dinsdale announces Coronation Street return

This has got me rather puzzled.

Reece Dinsdale, who played Gail's husband Joe McIntyre, has announced he's returning to Coronation Street. Here's where he said it and what he said:

Now then, cast your mind back. Joe's body was found and he was buried. So is Reece coming back as another character, or as Joe McIntyre, back from the dead, ready to scam Gail again? Hmmm... I wonder.

Reece Dinsdale likes his real ale

Reece Dinsdale, better known as Coronation Street's Joe McIntyre visited the Copper Dragon brewery in Skipton this week and was given a tour of the new £4m brewery by the head brewer.

Reece said: “It’s great to finally have a look around and taste the wares. I have to say the Copper Dragon range of ales are as distinctive as they are refreshing. Watch out Newton and Ridley – there’s a new kid on the block!”

Head brewer Mr Wilkinson said: “We might try and become a guest ale at the most famous pub on TV to help him feel at home.”

Reece Dinsdale: "I've been a fan of Corrie since I was three"

Reece Dinsdale, who plays Joe McIntyre on Coronation Street, says being in Corrie is like a dream come true as he's such a fan of the show. He's clearly loving being on the cobbles, you can tell from reading the interview that he's hugely enthusiastic about the role as Joe. I like him as a character, he's a good 'un and anything that puts a smile on Gail Platt's face is ok by me.

Reece Dinsdale to appear in Taggart

I was pleased to read in What's On TV (the paper edition, dated 3- 9 July) that Reece Dinsdale (Coronation Street's Joe McIntyre) has risen from his watery grave and is to appear in the next series of Taggart.

He'll guest star as DI Casey, an old friend of Matt Burke (I love Matt Burke! but that's another story) who arrives in Glasgow to help the team investigate the "muRRder" of a student.

Reece Dinsdale is a cracking actor and I'm really looking forward to this. The series will premier on STV this autumn and on ITV in 2011.

Reece Dinsdale's football fix on Corrie

Reece Dinsdale, who plays Tina's dad and Gail's fella on Coronation Street is a confirmed fan of Huddersfield Town football club. So much so that the footy club's sticker Altogether Now has been stuck in the front window of the builder's truck driven by Reece's character, Joe McIntyre, when he's filming on Corrie.

Reece, and yes, that's him on the left from many years ago, also presented a Huddersfield footy video called Beyond the Touchline.

Reece Dinsdale, who plays Joe McIntyre, says that being on Coronation Street is scary as he's quite a private person. Emails are coming in asking where Coronation Street fans have seen the actor who plays Joe McIntyre, father of Tina and new fella of Gail's. Well, the actor is Reece Dinsdale and he's got an extensive history of acting work on TV in the UK. He starred in the BBC's Conviction before joining Corrie and also popped up in an episode of Life on Mars. Reece Dinsdale's other TV credits include The Chase, Love Lies Bleeding and Ahead Of The Class. His film credits include the critically acclaimed I-D.

Reece Dinsdale for Strictly Come Dancing?

As we've heard already, Reece Dinsdale, who plays Joe McIntyre, is leaving Coronation Street soon. And it's rumoured that he'll appear on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing, or at least it says so here.

As I'm a big fan of both Corrie and Strictly, you can bet your sequin-covered tush I'll be covering this one for the blog if any present or ex-Corrie actors appear on it.

Shock news from The Mirror today is that Reece Dinsdale, who plays Gail's fella Joe McIntyre, is to leave Coronation Street - in a coffin! Yes, he's getting killed off in a bizarre plot to do with his addiction to painkillers.

Coronation Street vs Euro 2012

As we're having our Coronation Street schedule messed around for the Euro 2012 football, I thought it was time we took a look back at the golden age of football in Corrie. They had their own football team - Weatherfield County FC.  Alas, along with Delphines, The Clock, The Square Dealers, The Weatherfield Area Retail Traders Society (WARTS) and the Licensed Victuallers Association, they're not mentioned anymore. Ain't it a shame?

So let's look back at Weatherfield's own footy team.

Weatherfield County FC has appeared in scripts since 1961. It's been referred to as playing in the Nationwide Conference in the English non-league and the team strip is green and white.

Cockney bookie and Weatherfield bad lad Dave Smith owned the football club in the 70s and he also had a bit of a thing for Blanche Hunt.  Ken Barlow's brother David used to play for the team in the 60s until he was injured and couldn't play any more.

In the 90s, Racquel Wolstenhulme went out with Weatherfield County press secretary Gordon Blinkhorn and then through him she met and started dating striker Wayne Farrell.

Warren Baldwin was signed for the team in 2004 with girlfriend Candice Stowe becoming the Street's first WAG before she swapped WAGs for WIGs and went off on tour as a hairdresser to Status Quo.

And in 2005 Martin Platt became the football club mascot, dressing up as rooster. He got himself into a race against a rival team's mascot, dressed as a fox and they raced against each other. The fox pulled Martin’s tail feathers and he stumbled and fell, leaving the cheating fox to win the race.

Another obvious football link to Coronation Street was Chesney's dog being named after former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, the Great Dane himself.  Peter Schmeichel also had a walk-on part as a Corrie extra but if you blinked you might have missed him.

Coronation Street 'Gail Force' boat up for sale on eBay

Gail Force, the boat used on Coronation Street for filming Joe McIntyre's death is up for sale on eBay.

It's the second time the boat has been featured here on the Coronation Street Blog. It came up for sale on eBay in 2010 with a starting price of £695.  This time the starting bid is £850.

The boat was used for filming in the Lake District with Helen Worth (Gail) and Reece Dinsdale (Joe McIntyre).  Joe sailed off in the boat as part of an insurance scam but died in the process and hs body had to be dragged from the lake.

Awards and Lines of the week, starting August 3

We start off this week with a fashion award:
Cool hat of the week: Bill and Jason in kids' cowboy hats.

Best way to cover up your crime: Park your van with your business name on it in front of the place you're breaking into in broad daylight.


I know... everyone else has already said it but,
Pretty Woman moment: Becky going wedding dress shopping.

"You have my deepest sympathy" award: For Anna who wakes up to see Eddie on the other pillow every morning. But at least she gets good cake as her reward.

Word of the week: "Crack" They used it at least three or four times on Friday night, twice as in "What's the crack?" and once or twice more to describe Joe's habit.

Wearing blinders award: Gold and Silver star: Gail! A woman who works in a health clinic doesn't recognise the signs of drug addiction and doesn't recognise the sound of the alarm where she works, 20 yards away. It must have been ringing for 20 minutes and it was Audrey who heard it first. And why isn't it hooked into a security company and the police?
Bronze award: Michelle who vaguely noticed there was an alarm blaring. After everything was all over.

As pointed out by Flaming Nora, "I only had a bad back" was the line of the week, nay, decade, and having said that, Joe (Reece Dinsdale) gets the gold star for performance of the week! He, Tina and me as well, all in tears by the end of Friday's episodes.

To stay away from females for the year. 2015 didn’t really end the way Gary had hoped, he was expecting to be planning his wedding to Alya but instead he’s on his own after finding out she cheated on him with Jason, one of his best mates!

What’s your favourite Christmas board game?
We always play Accentuate at home, the Accent game, so putting lots of different accents on, it’s very funny.

What’s your Christmas tipple?
It’s got to be Port, always a Port at Christmas time.

Turkey or otherwise?
I’m cooking Christmas dinner for 8 people, it’s our first Christmas in our new home (Mikey and fiance Rachael) so we’re having all the family round. I might mix it up a bit and do something different.

Favourite Christmas memory…
Getting a He-Man sword when I was 5, there was a knock at the door, I got sent to answer it and my He-Man sword had been left on the drive by Father Christmas. Also the same I year I got a snooker table so that was the best Christmas ever.

Sprouts...devil or delicious?
Delicious, especially with some almonds thrown in there as well.

Christmas Day...PJs or fancypants?
A onesie day! My dad always puts a Santa hat on on Christmas morning to hand out the presents, that’s tradition.

Favourite Christmas film?
Elf all day long, I love the bit where he jumps in the Christmas tree and falls, you’ve got to love Elf.

Favourite Christmas song or carol?
The first CD I ever got was a Christmas present. It was a compilation album and number 1 on it was East 17 Stay Now so that song always reminds me of Christmas.

Favourite Corrie Christmas...yours, your characters, or a scene off screen!
Definitely my favourite Corrie Christmas was my first one where the Windasses had a food fight in the Platts, I reminder Steve Huison (who played my Dad Eddie) getting smacked between the eyes with a vol-au-vont thrown by Joe McIntyre (Reece Dinsdale), that was good.

You have one spot left at the dinner table..Who would you give it to, anyone past or present?
Gordon Ramsay for me, he could do the cooking but he’s a legend as well so he’d provide the food and the entertainment.

David Platt gets beaten to a pulp

Coronation Street spoiler of the week - so far, and it's only Monday, folks - is that David Platt will be beaten to a bloody pulp by a mystery attacker in a gripping Corrie whodunnit. So says The Sun.

David will be bludgeoned in a back alley and left bleeding and unconscious this summer. But he has made so many other enemies, the police won't know where to start hunting his attacker. The main suspects are Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas), ex-girlfriend Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan), his mum's boyfriend Joe McIntyre (Reece Dinsdale) and Len Windass (Conor Ryan) - Gary's uncle.

Joe in Loan Shark Hell

Hands up, who saw this coming? Thought so. Ok, you can all put your hands down again. Yes, Joe is going to have a little trouble with a vicious loan shark. According to The Sun, Joe owed a supplier £2000 but the supplier gets bought out by a less-than-upstanding "street banker" who then raises the interest rate and starts coming after Joe for the inflated amount of £7000! The thug, named Rick Neeland, threatens and intimidates Joe and his family, pushing Joe into some desperate action to save his loved ones. My speculation? This may or may not lead to Joe's death as previously rumoured but as it happens in November, it seems it will coincide with his departure as Reece Dinsdale is leaving the show later this year.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 15 December 2023

Good evening.  Well if you are going to destroy your relationship always resolve the problems of everyone else before you try and ask for your partner to take you back.  Daisy plays an absolute blinder tonight.  Her betrayal leads to Daniel and Ryan scrapping on t'Street.  Daniel manages to land a decent blow giving Ryan a black left eye - the same side as all his other scars.  Crystal finally twigs that "something" has been going down (and down and down).  For good reason Daisy cannot say that she does not love Ryan to Daniel.  Daisy turns into a swirling dervish - telling Ryan in Victoria Gardens that Daniel knew all along and had wrecked the gym job.  She then pops along to the Bistro where Crystal having demanded some space is told the truth and suggests to Crystal that when Ryan turns she should give him another chance which Crystal does.  Daisy having sorted everyone else then talks to Daniel on his doorstep but are we entirely surprised when he shuts the door in his face.  And for longer term afficionados how much did this remind us of Ken (Daniel) and Mike (Ryan) as generation speaks unto generation?  Daisy will no doubt head to Morocco for a handsome replacement but meanwhile is in tears as Daniel has told her it is over.

In the middle of the above Adam appeared out of nowhere.  Where is he living?  How is it he does not have a new best friend?  Did someone check his contract and see he was short of episodes?  I do think his spasmodic contributions are not making the best of him - but I suppose it does give him the opportunity to turn up with a new haircut every time we see him!

Elsewhere it appears that dog loving Terry has not reported dog stealing Evelyn to the police and has been released from police care.  Having given this some thought Roy and Evelyn come to the conclusion that perhaps Terry has something to hide concerning the little white dog.  Now why would a dog "owner" not want to press charges for theft?  Could it be that he is not the "owner" of said £1500 pooch?  Indeed is there a "dodgy puppy farm" which needs shutting down?

Jenny has gone through Stephen's laptop with fine toothcomb and found a file which he used moments before ripping thousands of pounds out of the factory account.  And unlike every other file it is password protected - even the police could not be bothered to break the file encryption as they did not deem it was related to multiple murders so not their concern.  Jenny dahling you need a hacker or the dark web (if anyone can put me in touch with the dark web please let me know).  Jenny enlists Carla's assistance as it is her money.  Well Jenny is her step-mother.  

Elsewhere there is meltdown in the Platt family as the content of Stephen's dairy, particularly the historic relevations that Sarah was in fact Brian's child and not some other person (Ian Latimer) has upset Sarah - why I am not sure as it all happened before she came along.  Anyway as Audrey tells Jenny and Carla the journal (which looks like a filofax to me - do people still use them in place of their phone these days) has all of Stephen's thoughts and she is going to take it home and read it from cover to cover.  Carla takes a peak and realises that there is a strong possibility that Stephen has passwords hidden in his journal.  (I don't write them down - I save them all in a file on this PC - as would Stephen I suspect).  Much sibling bickering between David and Sarah enlivens events - no room for it all here!  Gail uses PlattChat to set up a Platt family get together for tomorrow for Audrey.  

Does anyone care about Eliza, Yasmeen, Dom and Stu?  Well after the concert where Sam was an absolute whizz on the triangle they return home and Dom hangs around until it is time to go to Germany.  He tries to imply that he is coming back for Christmas but we know he won't and Stu thinks he is finally rid of the man.  But this is Coronation Street and I reckon that Dom will dob Stu in for his payoff to social services to get Eliza all to himself.  Other predictions are readily available.

Which means that Friday night is a wrap.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 6 June 2025

Good evening.  I have a plane to catch so this will be quite a short update this evening.  First up we get the inevitable break up between George and Eileen.  It has been on the cards for some time and George eventually realises that his future is, at least for now, in Weatherfield and he accepts that he cannot trail off to Thailand in Eileen's wake.  She admits she loves him - but as a friend - and so George has to say it is over.  Eileen is definitely going - she also decides she hates her clothes and will buy new ones when she arrives.  Jason explains that you simply have to leave Thailand every three months - Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, or somewhere else and do some travelling before returning and carrying on as before.  There is a gathering in the Rovers - Sean and Steve both refer to Eileen as a mother figure and there is a brief recall of Jason with Becky before she married Steve.  Todd assures Eileen he will soon be on a plane to Thailand as well and Julie's money looks like it will be buying a share of a bar.  

Dee Dee had arranged lunch with Alya in the Bistro and is unable to make it.  Daniel in contrast was expecting to meet a friend in the Bistro for lunch - the friend has cancelled the table booking but forgot to cancel Daniel.  So Daniel and Dee Dee have a drink together and appear to be getting on well, explaining how things are going at the moment.  Daniel has just witnessed Brody and Dylan squaring up to each other on his way into the Bistro and can see both of them will be behind bars in next to no time.  Dee Dee sympathises as she knows people need support and no doubt seeds are being sown for some community activity for youngsters.  Daniel sees Dylan and Betsy on the swings later and tries some wise words to effectively remember that they both have supportive parents rooting for them whilst Brody doesn't and perhaps they could find a way of cutting him some slack (which immediately put me in mind of Kit (and family) helping the young Mick and look where that led).

Leaving the Bistro with Daniel (not quite hand in hand yet) Dee Dee gets the shock of her life -  James is back with the baby Laila as apparently Danny has been finding other interests when getting his restorative physio and the relationship is over.  Dee Dee considers that she cannot face having her baby in her face and throws an inevitable strop.  Later Ed sits her down in their rather attractively laid out back yard and Dee Dee regrets her earlier intemperance.  If James does not stay with Ed he will be sofa surfing with football friends and quite simply that is not suitable for a baby.  Dee Dee gives her consent for the two to live on the Street.

Ronnie has helpfully provided Leanne with a drill so she can put a shelf up.  Walking past them Tim and Sally jump to the inevitably wrong conclusion that they have been sharing some afternoon delight and Debbie jumps to exactly the same wrong conclusion - she is getting nowhere with trying to put things right.  The Bailey boys - Ed, Ronnie, James and Michael all gather to celebrate all being single again.

Kev offers Carl some regular work in the garage as he is going part time for a while - Abi really wants Carl gone but he inevitably accepts the offer and so will be around for a while.

Millie (Theo's eldest daughter) spent last night on Eileen's sofa as, fortuitously, Jason was elsewhere with his mates.  Millie refuses to go home and apologise to her mother unless Theo comes home permanently with her.  Theo is not prepared to do that.  Millie hangs around like a bad smell most of the day and then decides the protest has gone on long enough and goes back to Danielle.  Can we have more of Danielle please?  Anyway with Eileen and George listening we hear Theo saying he wished he had been honest with Danielle much sooner - being honest is important.  That has a huge impact on the two of them but before they can talk Eileen is summoned to the police station where it is confirmed that she will face no charges in connection with Julie's death.

For Eileen's final departure the StreetCars cabs are parked up along the Street and the drivers all sound their horns as Steve drives Eileen to the airport.  Steve cannot imagine the cab office without her.  George gives Eileen a present - a neck pillow and they hug each other before she goes.

And before I go let us celebrate Eileen.  Sue Cleaver wants to do something different.  I hope she enjoys it and has a great time entertaining the public from a stage.  In the theatre the audience can directly show our appreciation of the cast on stage.  Only a week or so ago we went to see a play and my wife on reading the plot beforehand had convinced herself she would not enjoy it.  However the story had some great writing and the acting performances were superb - no it was not to be enjoyed but it proved to be enthralling and kept our rapt attention throughout - which is still great entertainment.  If Sue can deliver on stage then she can feel the direct appreciation for her efforts - something which is simply not possible with television and I hope that will be important to her in the future.  I wish her well.

I may not be here next week - but I will definitely be back in two weeks time.
