Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 1 October

Evening Corrie fans, it’s Kelly here with your Friday night review.

Imran tells Toyah that he can’t meet her for lunch as he’s up to his eyes with work at the office. She decides to surprise him with a takeaway but finds out from Adam that he hasn’t been there all day. When she finally tracks him down to the Rovers beer garden he swears that he’s meeting a client…and definitely NOT Sabeen…oh no…nope...no way…don’t look behind you! Pro-tip Imran, if you’re up to something you shouldn’t be, maybe don’t pick a venue literally in your own backyard. Toyah knows he’s lying (she should take up poker) so he finally admits that he spent the night of Kelly’s trial at Sabeen’s but that nothing happened.

Not a woman to give up easily, our Toyah then lures Sabeen to the Bistro and tries to call her bluff by saying that Imran has told her the truth and she just wants to hear her side of it (seriously Ms Battersby sign yourself up for the next Poker World Championship, Victoria Coren-Mitchell is quaking in her stilettos right now). Sabeen repeats Imran’s story that nothing happened and fleshes it out with the nice detail that he was so half-cut he couldn’t even get his shoes off. You can see why she wins all her cases.

Meanwhile at No. 8, the Platt’s have decided to stage an intervention, which involves confiscating Audrey's car keys until she gets an eye test. Audrey steadfastly refuses, claiming there’s nothing wrong with her sight. Come on now Aud you’re missing a trick here. How are they expecting you to get back to Grassmere Drive? There’s no room for you to stay in Chez Platt/Rodwell so let them have the keys and then demand you’re chauffeured home, then chauffeured to the chip shop, then chauffeured to the off-licence. Make sure you sit in the back like the Queen of Sheba and have Gail wear a little peaked cap which will give her the sort of hat hair it will take three rounds of shampooing to recover from. Unfortunately Mrs Roberts couldn’t hear my words of advice through the telly, so instead she just got Max to nick the keys back for her.

In other car news, Sally berates a local councillor, who is parking his car on the Street before catching a tram. When he ignores her, she tries to get Fergus the traffic warden to join her crusade, but he says he can’t ticket cars that aren’t illegally parked. Which does sort of beg the question, what he was doing there if he can’t issue tickets?

In the café, Nina tells a besotted Asha that she has got into the fashion course at college, but the good news is somewhat soured by hearing that Corey has been promoted to the Wethie County first team. Kevin, Nina and Asha agree that his County teammates should be made aware of the truth about him. Kevin asks James to have a discreet word with the manager. When that doesn’t work, he and Tim accost manager bloke outside the ground, but he’s having none of it and reminds them that Corey was acquitted in a court of law. Later, Stefan calls at the garage to warn Kev off and is only saved from getting a wrench round the head by Tim stepping in and telling Kev to forget about the fight for justice. Bloody hell Tim you fold faster than a cheap deckchair.

Finally, Sabeen turns up at Imran’s office (for a busy lawyer she seems to spend an inordinate amount of time stalking her ex) to try to blackmail him into taking the Harvey Wotshisname case. She’s deduced that as he only stayed at her place for a short time but didn’t make it home to Toyah, he must have ended up in someone else’s bed? Place your bets on the lucky lady now – Abi, Laura? We will soon find out as it’s soap law that any one-night-stand has to result in a pregnancy. Maybe it was Alina Pop?!

And that’s it for this week. If you thought that the mention of No. 8’s sinkhole being immediately followed by a mention of Corey mean he’s going to end up in it, then tell me this any other bizarre conspiracy theories in the comments or on twitter @mskelstar. Though nothing about the moon landing being filmed in a carpark in Ruislip…everyone knows it was Croydon.

Coronation Street Episode Review; Wednesday 29th September 7.30 & 8.30

Even PC Craig Tinker would be hard-pressed to believe that Kelly killed Seb, rather than Corey! However unbelievable that may be, it has undoubtedly ranked up the drama, giving the Hate Crime story this completely new strand. Tonight, Corrie wrapped up the first part of the story as Kelly faced sentencing, ultimately receiving a life term with a minimum of 15 years. Although Corey and Abi were not in court, Kev, Debbie, Gary, and Toyah took seats to witness the event. It's a tough sentence, but I think this conviction only serves to drive the plot forward?

Kelly will be free soon, somehow, but not before Imran has a crisis of his own doing! Kev’s punch (outside of court) probably only added injury to insult for the overworked solicitor. Sabeen may have been his saviour, taking him to the hospital, but surely she was just keeping him sweet for the Harvey Gaskill case? Otherwise, she would blackmail him into it? And that’s if he slept with Sabeen, the night that Kelly was convicted? Gary saw Imran in town that night, but we viewers didn't see that, nor did we see Imran get romantic with Sabeen, so I wonder if Toyah's suspicion will be proven incorrect? As for Kevin, his frustrations are sure to continue. Abi has fled to Doncaster, and it looks like Corey has made it to Weatherfield County first team!

Audrey’s taken Norris’ posthumous joke to heart, hasn't she! Feeling guilt over the hair-dying malarkey, Gail & Sarah organise Audrey a belated Birthday Bash at the Bistro. Audrey’s sudden sobriety has to be a sign of something wrong? Aud's had a gin in every episode since the 70s!! Seriously though, our Audrey has been in the show a long-time, so I wonder if tonight was a gag about her age, or is it a serious story about a woman reaching her twilight years?! Audrey driving into Rita’s car will surely reprise the Coronation Street parking subplot storyline. Agie was on the sidelines but not Sally, so I expect her clipboard and power suit cannot be too far away! Also, why are Streetcars not involved in this parking permit storyline?

Anyway, Corrie has had a lot of youth storylines on the street this year, so I think this Rita / Audrey feud could be balancing things out before the year ends. Talking of nights drawing in, Debbie has had some leaflets printed for the Horrornation Street ™ * Halloween event that Debbie and Nick are organising at the old brewery building. Ooh, spooky! Maybe the snooker hall 'ghost' will make a reappearance?

This is my last post for September 2021. I reckon with these recent stories, October is going to be full of even more drama. Can't wait!

FRIDAY 1ST OCTOBER

IMRAN IS CAUGHT IN HIS OWN WEB OF LIES Imran tells Toyah he can’t meet her for lunch as he is too busy in the office. Michael suggests she surprises him with a takeaway lunch but when she arrives at the office Adam tells her he hasn't been in the office all day and went to the Rovers. Toyah marches out on a mission. What will she find?

KEVIN FIGHTS FOR JUSTICE Frustrated that Corey’s promotion to the first team and that his anonymity remains protected, Kevin, Nina and Asha agree that his County teammates should be made aware of the truth about him. Kevin asks James to have a discreet word with County’s manager as the team deserves to know they are playing alongside a murderer but when that fails Kevin resolves to speak to the manager himself. Tim offers to accompany him. Kevin reckons Corey getting thrown out of County might bring Abi home.

THE PLATTS STAGE AN INTERVENTION Audrey meets Rita in the cafe, apologises for damaging her car and offers to pay for the repairs. She takes offence when Rita suggests she maybe needs her eyes testing. Gail convinces David and Sarah to stage an intervention to get to the bottom of Audrey’s problem. Summoning Audrey to No.8, Gail’s hoping for a civilised discussion. Will she get her wish?

ELSEWHERE Nina’s a bundle of nerves ahead of her college interview. Roy steels himself to deliver the latest update on Corey. Sally’s aggrieved to see a local councillor, who ignored her concerns about local traffic, parking his car on the street before catching a tram.

FRIDAY 1ST OCTOBER

IMRAN’S LIES COME BACK TO HAUNT HIM Imran tells Toyah that he spent the night of the trial at Sabeen’s house but nothing happened. Sabeen backs him up but is intrigued as she knows he didn’t stay there the whole night. Sabeen makes it clear she expects him to reconsider working on Harvey’s appeal. Imran feels dreadful when Toyah apologises for speaking to Sabeen behind his back. As Toyah advocates total openness in the future, Imran swallows his guilty secret.

KEVIN IS FORCED TO CALL OFF THE PROTEST Tim and Kevin accost County’s manager outside the ground but Bob’s quick to remind them that Corey was acquitted in a court of law. Having learned of Kevin’s attempts to wreck Corey’s reputation at County, Stefan calls at the garage to warn him off. Seeing the strain his pal’s under, Tim urges him to forget about justice for Abi and focus on his life with Jack. Tim tells Nina that Kevin’s a broken man and urges them both to back down for the sake of their sanity, but is Nina ready to abandon the fight?

AUDREY FINDS A SURPRISE ALLY Audrey refuses to be bullied into having an eye test, telling Gail in no uncertain terms that all her organs are in perfect working order.

ELSEWHERE Nina clumsily reminds Asha she sees her purely as a mate. Asha’s quick to assert that she’s totally happy with how things turned out. Aadi’s shocked when Asha bursts into tears, devastated that Nina doesn’t want her. Aadi suggests she could find somebody else to date. Sally pesters Fergus to join her crusade, pointing out the potential for issuing penalty notices once residents’ parking gets enforced.
