Jane Danson Interview: "Give Leanne and Nick a Happy Ever After"

Corrie actor Jane Danson recently sat down with the Blog to discuss Nick's return to the cobbles and what it might mean for Leanne. We also discussed her involvement in the big crash scenes with Ronan which aired last week and how she found filming those intense episodes:

How much of the car stunts did you do yourself?

All of it! They’ve slowed it all down a bit and obviously a lot of stuff always ends up on the cutting room floor. I think maybe because there was so much in the episode and maybe they didn’t want it to be too violent. In terms of the stunts they wouldn’t let you do anything that they are uncomfortable with. It was nice to get involved in that side of things. It was all filmed somewhere near Oldham, out of the way, really foresty, there was nobody else around.

Jane on location
Jane asks one of the Corrie team if she can give away some of the secrets of the stunt. Suffice to say it’s very clever but we wouldn’t want to ruin the illusion for you!

Was it fun to film the wedding cake fight?

No! Initially the cake was a huge three-tier wedding cake that I was supposed to pick up and throw in Tracy’s face. In rehearsal I tried it and I said “guys, this cakes about two stone!” I’m eight-stone soaking wet I can’t lift that! You just have to go for it in this scenes because it’s never going to be pleasant - covered in jam!

Of late we’ve been watching a fun Leanne, particularly with the hilarious love triangle with Imran. Now that Nick’s back is the party over?

Yep! It’s been nice that you’ve seen her have that bit of fun, because she never really has fun. But it goes a bit darker now Nick’s back. With Leanne and Nick something pulled them apart and something pulls them back together again. And now it’s whether she can forgive him for leaving her with a brand new baby. There’s a bit of drama to come. But it’s gorgeous to have Ben (Price) back he’s such a great guy. We enjoy each other’s company and we just know each other so well.

Would you like Leanne and Nick to have a happy ever after?

Yeah. I think it’s important to show that some people can stay together. Some of us do! It would be nice if they could build on that instead of tear it apart.

Do you think there’s much chance of that?
No!

Are the good times over for Leanne?
Would you say they are a potential Jack and Vera of the future?

They are more like Ken and Deirdre because they keep breaking up and getting back together. Tyrone and Fiz have more of that Jack and Vera quality.

Are you happy at Corrie having been there so long?

I feel like one of the old ones now! Yeah I love it and I feel really lucky. It sounds really soppy to say but it is a lovely place to work. It’s a dream job. I like to see the feisty side that Leanne has. She is getting older so she cant be as flighty any more! I want them to keep her the character that she always has been, and I like it now that Toyah’s back.

One of the journalists in the groups asks whether Jane is taking part in this year’s Dancing on Ice.

If it was true, I would feel a bit nervous! Sometimes we are very fortunate that these opportunities come along and sometimes you have to take it because it might not come up again. So…IF that opportunity were to come, I might just want to grab it with both hands! It might mean Leanne has a bit of a quiet Christmas on the cobbles…

It’s since been confirmed that Jane WILL be appearing on the hit ITV show. You can read more about that here

Jane Danson, who plays Coronation Street's Leanne Battersby, has been confirmed as taking part in  Dancing on Ice 2019.

On joining the show, Jane said "I've got a big birthday next month so I'm seeing it as a challenge for the fab 40. I'm just looking forward to it and trying not to think about being damaged. It's been a bit of a life long dream."

Dancing on Ice returns to ITV in the New Year.

Jane will be getting her skates and sequins on ready to compete alongside eleven other celebrities in the quest for glory, under the watchful eye of the skating legends Torvill and Dean, who head up the judging panel.

Each week the twelve celebrities will skate live with their professional partners in a bid to impress both the panel and the viewers, who will ultimately decide who wins the show.

How their absence will be explained from Coronation Street is not yet known, however.

Antony Cotton confirmed for Dancing on Ice 2018

Just last week it was confirmed that Brooke Vincent (Sophie Webster) will be joining the TV show Dancing on Ice. You can read more on that here.

And now it's also been confirmed that Antony Cotton (Sean Tully) will be joining Brooke on the skating show.

Antony's announcement came at the end of Monday night's Coronation Street when he said on screen:   "I better get my skates on - I've got practising to do!"

Antony has met his professional partner and will now embark on training ahead of the new series, which returns to ITV in the New Year.

What this might mean for Sean's storylines in Corrie remains to be seen but we already know that he's moving out of Norris' house. Where to? You can find out more here.

Antony Cotton signed up to do Dancing on Ice?

Has Coronation Street star Antony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully, signed up to do the next series of Dancing on Ice?

Antony, along with rugby player Max Evans and celebrity psychic Sally Morgan have all been pictured taking to the ice in preparation for the revival of the ITV skating competition.

Pictures on The Sun website today show Antony trying his hand - or should that be his feet - at ice-skating.

The Sun say that while Antony and Sally seemed to struggle on the ice, rugby player Max Evans took to it like a duck to water.

If Antony is joining Dancing on Ice, he'll follow in the ice-boots of his Corrie co-stars Andy Whyment and Samia Ghadie (as she was then) who met and fell in love with her second husband on that show, Sylvain Longchambon.

If Antony is doing the skating show, I wonder if this will mean his character will take a break from Weatherfield?

Pic: Samia Smith confirmed for Dancing on Ice 2013

I'm no fan of Dancing on Ice but I know it's huge and pulls in loads of viewers to ITV.

Earlier this year, Andy Whyment who plays Coronation Street's Kirk Sutherland, took time off from the cobbles for a bit of skating on ice. And this year, Samia Smith, who plays Kirk's on-screen sister Maria Connor, is set to join the ranks of skating celebrities.

The full Dancing on Ice lineup is as follows:

Pamela Anderson & Matt Evers
Anthea Turner & Andrew Buchanan
Samia Ghadie & Sylvain Longchambon
Beth Tweddle & Dan Whiston
Lauren Goodger & Michael Zenezini
Baroness King of Bow & Mark Henretty
Matt Kapinskas & Brianne Delcourt
Shayne Ward & Maria Filippov
Joe Pasquale & Vicky Ogden
Luke Campbell & Jenna Harrison
Keith Chegwin & Olga Sharutenko
Gareth Thomas & Robin Johnstone
Dancing on Ice is hosted by Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley and returns on Sunday, January 6, 2013 on ITV1.

Samia Ghadie training for Dancing on Ice

We blogged a while ago the tabloid rumour that Samia Ghadie, who plays Coronation Street's Maria Connor, might be appearing on this year's Dancing on Ice.

And today The Sun has a picture of Samia in training for the show so it does look like that she will be appearing on ITV's skating show, which starts in January.

However, The Sun also reveals that Samia ended up injuring her wrist and left the session at a Manchester ice rink with an ice pack.

I wonder if ice-skating injuries accounted for the bandage on Samia/Maria's arm which we saw in last night's Corrie?

Corrie's Samia Ghadie to be on Dancing on Ice?

There's a news story in today's Sun that reckons Coronation Street's Samia Ghadie (Maria Connor) will be joining the next series of ITV's Dancing on Ice.

If Samia does take part in the show, she'll be following in the skating-steps of Corrie co-star Andy Whyment, who plays Maria's on-screen brother.

TV Biz in The Sun says that Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle has already been signed up to star in Dancing on Ice and that as well as Samia Ghadie, former EastEnder Matt Lapinskas (who he?) will be on the show too.
