5 Hidden Secret Sets on Coronation Street

In the last week much was made in the tabloids about the fact that we'd been able to see inside the kitchen at the Rovers Return.  It was a non-story by the tabloids, clickbait, as they said it was the first time we'd seen into the Rovers kitchen in forty years.  Do they even watch the show?  We've had scenes set inside the kitchen at the pub many times over the years.   Find out more here.

But this has set me wondering about sets that we really haven't seen for years - or at all - on  Coronation Street. I've come up with a short list of five of these and would love to know if you can think of any more.

Eileen's front room
Wasn't Sean living in there at one point?  What's in there now, I wonder? A pile of Phelan's dead bodies decomposing under the sofa?

Emily's front room
Didn't Spider's girlfriend Log stay overnight in there once upon a time? Are Jude and Angie living in there now? Why is it never mentioned?

Sally's bedroom
I'd love to see Sally's bedroom, to see where she keeps her mayoral outfits.

Maria's bedroom
Maria usually makes merry with her gentlemen callers on the sofa in the front room of her flat. As far as I know we've never seen inside her bedroom.  I suspect she's got a chalk board above her bed headboard, marking off the numbers of fellas she's had.

The Chippy
We never see inside For Your Fries Only any more, do we? I wonder if this will change when the new set is built and there's additional people wanting their chips?

And while I'm on the subject of sets we never see, we never see in anyone's bathrooms, do we?  And while we rarely see upstairs in the Rovers, we have seen it in the past and we know there's another living room up there too as well as bedrooms.

Can you think of any more sets we have either never seen before - or we haven't seen in years?

Makes me wonder if we really need all of the new sets that are being built, when there's so much on the Street already that are never, or rarely used.

Who works where in Coronation Street (1/2)

So previously in my blogging life I covered the residences of Weatherfield and who lives where, you can find them in two handy posts here and here. Anyway, I've decided to cover businesses now, since a lot of new employees have appeared in the last few months.

Rovers Return Inn
The ownership of the Rovers is currently up in arms! Liz and Steve McDonald are landlord and landlady, though Steve's wife Michelle wants Steve to sell the pub in the divorce settlement. Sean Tully and Eva Price work shifts here behind the bar when they're not sewing knickers at Underworld, and Sean doubles up as pub chef, serving up Betty's hotpot. Sarah-Louise Platt and Toyah Battersby also pull pints at the Rovers, but who will be the new name above the door this summer? Kate Oates has teased new owners at the pub. It's also worth mentioning that Anna Windass is following in Hilda Ogden's footsteps as cleaner.

D&S Alahan's
At the other side of the street is just one small part of Dev Alahan's empire of corner shops. Does Dev still own all of those other shops like he used to? Anyway, D&S Alahan's is probably his favourite as he lives just four doors away. The current shop assistants are Dev's girlfriend Erica Holroyd (though probably not for much longer) and Cathy Matthews.

Nick's Bistro
Robert Preston and Nick Tilsley were at the helm of this fancy restaurant on Viaduct Street, though Nick's selling his half now that he's ran off and left Robert in the lurch. Rivals Leanne Battersby and Michelle Connor are the manageresses and Zeedan Nazir is sous chef. Kate Connor and Daniel Osbourne are waiters at the bistro, and Gail Rodwell cleans here.

Webster's Autocentre
If I were Tyrone Dobbs I'd be a bit miffed at the fact that only Kevin Webster's name is above the shutters at the garage. They each own 50%, and have recently extended premises through the back into an archway on Viaduct Street (although it was gutted by a fire soon after). Luke Britton is a mechanic here.

The Kabin
Rita Tanner's pride and joy since 1973, she's still very much in charge at the newsagents since she signed it over to her shop assistant Norris Cole in 2009. Mary Taylor and Jenny Bradley have covered shifts in the shop in recent years.

Underworld
The Connor's have ruled the roost in the knicker factory for many years, and it is currently owned by Carla Connor (60%) and her father Johnny Connor (40%) though Johnny is much more in charge now that Carla has moved to Devon. His son Aidan is factory manager, and is training Alya Nazir to be his assisting manageress now that she's a partner in the vintage range of underwear, much to the annoyance of Sally Metcalfe who is just a supervisor after many years of work in the factory. Sean Tully, Beth Sutherland, Fiz Stape, Eva Price, Izzy Armstrong, Sinead Tinker, Gina Seddon and Jenny Bradley are all machinists, with Jenny managing the new mastectomy bra range. Kirk Sutherland works in the packaging department.

Audrey's Salon
Audrey Roberts has had her hair salon opposite the Rovers since 1998, buying it from Fiona Middleton. Audrey had previously operated a salon in the front room of No. 11 Coronation Street when she lived there. She employs grandson David Platt and friend Maria Connor as stylists. Granddaughter-in-law Kylie Platt was the salon's first nail technician prior to her death last year.

Preston's Petals
When Barlow's Bookies closed it seemed like this shop really lost it's purpose. The pawn shop that replaced it, Barlow's Buys, was such an obscure choice of business and it never really found its feet. Tracey Barlow has revamped the shop and it's now called Preston's Petals, supplying Interflora bouquets and arrangements to the people of Weatherfield with help from Mary Taylor.

Rosamund St. Medical Centre
The medical centre on Rosamund Street replaced the derelict Graffiti Club back in 2000 and is now the go to place for non-emergencies. The medical professionals that work there are nurse Rana Nazir and Dr. Gaddas.

For Your Fries Only
Nobody currently works here, though it was once the workplace of Cilla Battersby-Brown and her friend Yana Lumb.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this and now have a better clue as to who works where! I'll cover the rest in the second post coming later in the week.

Who lives where in Coronation Street (2/2)

Writing a post earlier in the week about the inhabitants of Weatherfield houses, I realised that there are far too many residences on the set nowadays and I'd have to therefore split it into two posts. Here's the first - and here's the latter of the set, covering Victoria Street, Rosamund Street and beyond.

19a Rosamund Street
Firstly it's worth noting that this is the only current residence on Rosamund Street. Whether that changes with the new set we'll have to wait and see. It's also worth stating that prior to the set move to MediaCity, this flat was numbered 9a, and prior to 2007 the entrance to it was on Victoria Street, where it was numbered 17a. Peter Barlow and his girlfriend Toyah Battersby currently live here, with Peter's nephew Adam.

14a Victoria Street
The flat above the community centre was last occupied by Kirk and Beth Sutherland. Janice Battersby was the longest serving resident and it is currently vacant.

15a Victoria Street
Steve McDonald owns the flat, which was rented by Kate Connor and Alya Nazir until tonight. He's turfed them out so that he and Liz have somewhere to live when they move out of the Rovers!

16a Victoria Street
Above Roy's Rolls Cafe is another flat, two-bedroomed and occupied by Roy Cropper and his lodger Brian Packham. Roy's wife Hayley took her own life in the front bedroom back in January 2014. Ken Barlow was staying here following his attack a few months ago but has since returned to No. 1.
18a Victoria Street
The flat above the kebab shop was home to Leanne Battersby until last year when she moved in with Nick at Victoria Court. It is now home to Leanne's half-sister Eva Price and her fiancée Aidan Connor (though perhaps for not much longer if Aidan's affair with Maria Connor is exposed!)

19a Victoria Street
The builder's yard's flat has fresh carpets with thanks to Pat Phelan - who had to replace them when he murdered Andy Carver in the flat last year. Luke Britton lives here now with his brand new flatmates Kate Connor and Alya Nazir who moved in after being turfed out of No. 15a Victoria Street. The flat featured heavily a few years ago when Rob Donovan followed Tina McIntyre upstairs and out onto the open roof where she was pushed and murdered following a blow to the head.

8 Victoria Court
Stylish although obscure in design, No. 8 Victoria Court was home to Nick Tilsley though now he's ran off to..er..somewhere, the only residents are single mum Leanne Battersby and her sons Simon Barlow and Oliver Battersby.

9 Victoria Court
This residence hadn't been seen for years until Robert Preston moved in. He was 'homeless' on the show for a while, with nobody quite knowing where he lived until his new flat appeared on screen. Girlfriend Michelle Connor moved in earlier this year.

12 Victoria Court
This is definitely the most lavish apartment, and previously the home to Carla Connor, her dad Johnny Connor now lives here alone. He's just kicked Jenny Bradley out after calling off their marriage.

5 Grasmere Drive
Audrey Roberts' house since she moved out of Coronation Street back in 1989 with husband Alf. She's lived alone since he death except for brief times when people have moved in such as Bill Webster, Nick Tilsey, David, Sarah-Louise and Bethany Platt.

28 Grayling Street
Now this is quite possibly the most ludicrous living arrangement. Izzy Armstrong lives in this bungalow with her son Jake Windass and Jake's dad Gary. Now I don't know about you, but I wonder how Sarah-Louise feels about her boyfriend still living with his ex? I know it's for the benefit of Izzy's health and to care for Jake but I can't imagine her being very happy about it.

Unknown Addresses: According to blog readers, Alex Warner now lives at in assisted living accommodation, we also currently see an unnamed flat above Nathan Curtis' tanning shop.

And well I've rather enjoyed compiling this little list of residences, so I think next week I'll do a follow up of 'who works where', as I've noticed there's a few new additions to some businesses recently.
