This is the first time we’re properly seeing detective Kit - what can we expect from him?
Kit’s priority is to get down to the bottom of who killed Joel. He knows someone is lying, everyone is acting shifty on the street and there’s a few potential culprits. Kit usually likes to take the law into his own hands in order to get justice so I think we will see him do the investigation how he believes is right. Kit likes to justify his bad behaviour to get what he wants and if he can get the culprit at the end of it, I think he’ll turn a blind eye to how he gets the end result.
Kit integrated himself into the community and the suspects are people that he knows. How will he deal with this?
Kit doesn’t really have any friends on the street. He’s a friendly guy who can have a pint with other people, but he doesn’t have any real friends. I think the closest thing he has to a ‘friend’ is Lisa, because they have similar interests with work. He’s also a very reserved guy so I imagine when it comes to dealing with suspects on the street, he can just turn it on and not think about it.
How does Kit feel towards Joel?
Kit doesn’t like Joel, but I don’t think Kit liked Lauren at the beginning either. Kit had a look at Lauren’s file and thinks she’s her fathers daughter - her dad is obviously a convicted activist and as far as Kit is aware, Lauren was on board with that. Kit also came onto the street in the middle of everything with Joel so it took some time to weigh up who was the victim, but of course when he finds out that it was Lauren who was the victim all along, he is then gunning for Joel and wants to take him down.
How does he feel that he’s dead?
In a way, Kit is glad Joel is dead, but he’s equally gutted that he never got to bring him to justice and see him rot in jail.
How will he investigate it when he’s glad that he’s dead? Does that create a conflict of interest?
No, I think he’s switched now and it gives him another chance to actually find and catch the culprit rather than someone dying. Kit wants to see someone through the justice system. He’s put all of this work into Joel and for him to die at the end of it is a bit of a kick to the teeth for Kit, Swain and everyone else who has been involved in the case so now he’s got to put all of his time and energy into who killed Joel to try and make up for that. Kit is a bit of a workaholic and he definitely won’t be nice to people about the case, especially people who lie to him.
Does Kit have any idea of who may have done it?
I think he does know deep down, but there’s obviously complications in the way and various suspects who could be guilty. This week, Lisa, who is now off the case, puts it into Kit’s head that Mason could be the suspect because he had a crowbar, which makes Kit’s eyes light up. When he visits Mason, he finds him with a crowbar and Kit brings him in for questioning, but I think this is just the beginning…
Do you think this will put more pressure on his working relationship with Lisa?
I think Kit needs Swain and Swain needs Kit, they make a good combo, but at the same time, I don’t know if Kit can trust Swain because he plays a different ball to her. Swain is very by the book whereas as we’ve seen, Kit can turn a blind eye to things.
Is Kit pleased to be heading up the case now that Lisa has been taken off?
He is pleased to be heading up the case, but at the same time, Lisa is still in his ear quite a lot and coming into work which will ultimately annoy him.
Does he feel guilty that through his findings, Lisa has been taken off the case?
No, he doesn’t feel guilty at all because he’s been giving it to him for a while. I know she’s his boss, but she thinks she’s a lot more superior, which she is in terms of the job, but he thinks he’s better than her. They constantly give each other sly digs so he’s glad that she’s off the case and he can hopefully prove himself.
Obviously Lisa is wanting to protect her daughter, but how will he deal with her interfering in this case?
I think Kit deals with Lisa’s interference quite well but Lisa doesn’t so much. As I said before, they are both very similar in the sense that they are workaholics and obsess over their job, so although she’s been taken off the case, she’s constantly asking questions. Kit retaliates by telling Lisa that she should be more focused on what her daughter is doing which will probably hit a nerve.
