Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 19 January 2024

Good evening.  As I am on off on holiday in the morning this is a very quick update.  Maria ensures that Liam returns to school where Mason continues to bully him and Dylan tries not to fall foul of Mason.  Liam refuses to tell Gary and Maria who is responsible and denies that Mason and Dylan are the people involved.  Mason separates Liam and his phone and to avoid further confrontation Liam sets off the school fire alarm.  Mason later sends Jake Windass a message to be passed onto Liam that he can have phone back tomorrow at 1pm outside the science block.  Liam knows it is a setup but agrees.

Bernie returns.  She seems to have avoided the mandatory sun tan of most prison inhabitants and returns to the bosom of the Street - well the Rovers Return for welcome home drinks.  She is soon giving Linda Hancock a well deserved bum's rush to the nearest hotel for her interfering ways whilst neither Gemma nor Joseph actually want much to do with Chesney at the moment.  Joseph is recovering from Lyme's disease and social services are still trying to defend the indefensible.  Sorry but to my mind the attitude of social services in not listening to Gemma and supporting the parents at a difficult time proves that they are not fit for their responsibilities.  Thank goodness for Dr Badaass Gadass.  Anyway Gemma can return home but Chesney is on the sofa, Bernie is home but Jospeh wants to move into Billy and Paul's flat with Gemma.

Adam has a storyline.  He wants Damon gone and pays a dodgy friend of Harvey the nutcase money to get Damon gone.  However Harvey is not going to approve Damon's departure until Adam has sorted Harvey's appeal and he is likely to be a free man again.  Needless to say Adam is worried that if anyone knows what he is doing he will get struck off as a solicitor - supping with the devil tends to have unwelcome outcomes - ask Sam.

And tonight a star was born - well almost.  Lauren deserves a medal for negotiating the cobbles in the heels, that dress and those earrings.  If she becomes likeable in the next couple of weeks I think we have a future barmaid at the Rovers and eventually the next landlady but two (or something like that).  I cannot remember much about the story - she was adding her own alcohol to soft drinks in the Bistro and Max, Gav and Sabrina could not afford to go into town with her.  However they are her mates - both Gav and Max tried to help her later - but she is missing the alleged boyfriend.  No doubt this story is about to ripen to fruition - I wonder if she has been seeing Steve McDonald as we know his marriage is having a few problems - he told Tim that a few months ago.

Tonight was generally the younger set - Liam. Jake, Joseph, Lauren, Max, and so on.  I realise they are the future - that is inevitable.  But if we are getting school bullying, incompetent social services and Adam playing at being a gangster it hardly feels involving to the average viewer.  And would anyone of Lauren's age dress like that in Manchester?  Perhaps I should visit.  I may not be here next week due to holiday but hope I will be back the following week.

The reason that Social Services are investigating Gemma is because she poisoned Joseph with Lavender oil [thinking it was tea]and almost killed him!Or is that important detail being whitewashed to allow Gemma and Bernie[who suggested the lavender tea] to act so holier than thou to Chesney [who did forgive Gemma for almost killing his son]?!
I'm also getting tired of male characters being thrown out of their homes,Nick,Ed,Adam and now possibly Chesney.
For once I would like to see a female character thrown out like Sarah for example who did cheat on her husband and is still living in Adam's flat?!
