Interviews with the Coronation Street extras - Jonny Grimshaw

If you've ever wondered what it's like to be an extra on Coronation Street, then wonder no more.

Canadian Coronation Street fan Christine Warren who runs the Coronation Street Fun Pages, has secured interviews with some of the extras on Corrie and has kindly given us permission here on the Coronation Street Blog to feature and link to each one when they are uploaded to her site.

This week it's Jonny "G Force" Grimshaw who works on Corrie as an extra.  He's on twitter at https://twitter.com/jonnygforce

I met Jonny when we were both at Corriefest last month and he's a really nice bloke.

Check out Jonny's interview here

Corrie fan gets to be an extra on the Street

Mark Rooney is one very lucky Corrie fan . He won the chance to be an extra in an upcoming episode of Coronation Street. The ‘BE A VIP on Coronation Street’ competition was run by Holland’s Pies  to celebrate Holland’s range of limited edition 50th anniversary Coronation Street pies.

Mark spent an entire day on set along with his son Declan. They received a guided tour of the set, watched filming take place, hung out with the cast and crew and even took part in one of the scenes.

Mark, said: “Taking part in the filming was fantastic. Along with another extra, we walked arm-in-arm down the famous cobbled street outside of the Rovers as a scene was being filmed. It was a great moment to think that I could be staring in my favourite programme; I really hope that it makes the final cut and is aired so that I can be the envy of my friends. One of the highlights of the day was meeting Shobna Gulati, who plays Sunita, she has been my favourite character since she first entered the street ten years ago. I was a little bit star struck when I met her but I told her how much I enjoyed watching her on screen character and we had a photograph together.”

Mark's pictured here with Julie Hesmondhalgh, who plays Hayley Cropper.

Corrie extra gets the sack

A Coronation Street extra has been given the sack after calling some of the cast 'rubbish' live on national radio.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Corrie background artiste Spencer May was given the boot after ringing in to the Jeremy Vine radio show just before he was due to play a victim in the Corrie tram crash in December last year.  He was criticial of some of the show's cast but didn't name names.

Granada TV confirmed that the Spencer’s contract had been terminated by his agency. A spokesman said: "Mr May was in breach of contract. It is an unfortunate situation."

However, reading the article at the M.E.N. what really shocked this Corrie fan was the news that Corrie extras can earn up to £180 a day!  £180! A day! Where do I sign up?

FAQ: How can I become an extra on Coronation Street?

So, you want to be on Corrie? I'm emailed often by people wanting to find out how they can become an extra on Coronation Street.

To be honest, I don't know. And while there's no guarantee that this website could lead you to become an extra on Coronation Street, if you'd like to know more about auditions, casting calls and other entertainment opportunities on telly in the UK, then it just might be worth a look. You could also contact the Janet Howe casting agency too.
