Giving you an insider’s view of Coronation Street, Corrie expert Mark Llewllin is leading two full day Coronation Street locations tours next week - on Wednesday October 3rd and Thursday October 4th, 2012.

Coronation Street walking tours, Spring 2012

How to visit the Coronation Street set - if you're Canadian

You lucky, lucky Canadian fans. Coronation Travel are holding their annual trip to the UK with a tour of the Coronation Street set included. The trip this year will be held May 9th-19th. Visiting London, Hampton Court Gardens, Stonehenge, Bath, Cardiff, Chester, Liverpool and of course Manchester and the inside and outside sets of Coronation Street at Granada/ITV.

Emails to the blog continue to ask when the Coronation Street set will be reopened to fans.

It will be open for tours from April to September 2014.

For fans planning a trip to Manchester who want to see some Corrie sights, where would you recommend they visit in addition to these suggestions below... 

Visit the exterior of the Granada TV  Building on Quay Street. On the entrance, up the steps leading into the building are blue plaques dedicated to some of the Corrie classic actors.  Well worth a look.

Find the Coronation Street mural in the Northern Quarter. If you find it and can tell us which street it's in, please do so we can let other fans know.  Here's a picture of it.

Heaton Park, Manchester (used for larger Red Rec scenes, including the boating lake where Roy and Hayley had their first kiss): Manchester M25 2SW

Church of St Mary the Virgin, Prestwich (used for many Corrie weddings and funerals)

The Old Grapes pub was once owned by Liz Dawn (Vera Duckworth) on Little Quay St.

Coronation Street walk and talk, January 27

What better way to start your New Year than with a Coronation Street walk and talk? 

New Manchester Walks are offering a Coronation Street story walk on Thursday 27 January at 10.30am starting from the steps of the Midland Hotel in central Manchester.

The walk takes you from the centre of Manchester to the heart of Weatherfield, in and out of the haunts of the actors, actresses and Corrie characters. It’s everything other than a trip down the street itself.

Cost is £6 per person.

Coronation Street guided walk, December 11

Tickets are still on sale for Coronation Street guided walks on Saturday 11 December.

Each walk will last approximately 1.5 hours and take in some of the Manchester city centre locations used in The Street, e.g. the hotel where Kevin and Molly stayed, and the canal where Tony pushed Roy in. We'll also see where some of the actors have lived (and still do) and stayed whilst filming. Unfortunately, we can't get onto The Street itself, but we will visit the entrance to the outdoor set, where you can catch a glimpse of part of it. All this will be inter-spaced with entertaining tales and trivia about Corrie and the cast who have been in it over the past 50 years.

Coronation Street walking tours in Manchester - on sale now

If you're in Manchester later this year, you might be interested to know there's a couple of Coronation Street tours you can join.

The first is run by Mark Lllewllin through the Oldham Chronicle newspaper. It takes place on Wednesday October 27th. The tour will depart from the Oldham Chronicle offices (OL1 1EQ) at 10am and return at about 4.30pm. The tour takes in Richard Hillman's death spot, the Register office, parish church, Weathefield Quays, Red Rec, passing the studios and a number of other locations too - and Mark will be filling you in on how it's all put together, the history and so on. If you would like to know more or book - it costs £15 each - then call 0161 622 2130. You'll find it listed on their website http://www.oldham-chronicle.co.uk/ and click on 'readers holidays' at the top and then 'our famous day trips' to open the pdf. Please note that this day trip does not visit the studios nor include a visit to the sets.
