Steven Arnold stars in new comedy feature film

Steven Arnold, who played Ashley Peacock in Coronation Street, is starring in a new comedy feature film called The Blazing Cannons.

Made by Happy Pup Films, The Blazing Cannons is due for UK and US release early next year and follows the story of two cops on the hunt for a serial killer. However the cops have an unhealthy obsession with 1970s TV shows. The duo also have a reputation for coming down hard on the bad boys.

Steven's character Ashley Peacock was killed off in Corrie back in 2010 when the tram crashed off the viaduct as part of Corrie's 50th anniversary live episode. Ashley died helping his friends Nick Tilsley and Peter Barlow escape, with the viaduct collapsing and crushing him to death.

There's a Youtube video here showing some of Ashley's best bits... enjoy!

Corrie's Steven Arnold stars in The Charlie Chaplin Story

Steven Arnold, best known for playing Ashley Peacock in Coronation Street, is starring as Charlie Chaplin’s brother in this heart-warming and hilarious musical about the first true British icon of Cinema.

Steven is joined onstage by Nicole Faraday (Bad Girls / Emmerdale), Helena Gullan (‘Once’- London’s West End) and a cast of six West End actor-musicians who play over 20 instruments live onstage!

This powerful musical tale weaves through Chaplin’s modest and troubled childhood growing up in the gutters of Victorian London.  It focuses on Chaplin’s relationship with his mother who, after being admitted to an asylum, was forced to put her sons into the workhouse. It moves through Chaplin’s early showbiz career on the Vaudeville stage, through the primitive years of early Hollywood and finishes with Chaplin discovering his big breakthrough film which made him a household name - ‘The Kid’. An untold story too fascinating to miss.

The creative team include the multi-award winning writer Stuart Price and No1 hit-single writer Jake Field as composer.

The musical is going on tour during June and July and the list of tour dates is here.

We're running a very special competition for two lucky Coronation Street Blog readers to to win a pair of tickets each to the show of their choice. Enter here!

Meet Corrie's Kirk and Ashley in Chester this weekend

The steaks (see what they did there?) are high for a good turnout when two Coronation Street actors officially open a new butchers in Chester.

The Chester Chronicle reports that this Saturday, (April 11), the public are invited to a special meat (woah-ho!) and greet with Steven Arnold who played butcher Ashley Peacock in Corrie for 15 years, and Andrew Whyment, who plays Kirk Sutherland, as the pair open the new Wayne Walker Quality Meats branch at the Forum Shopping Centre in Chester.

And whether you have a T-bone (another one!) to pick with the actors, or just want to rib (groan!) them about something - you won't have to mince (stop!) your words because the pair will be mingling with the public from 11am-2pm, signing autographs and posing for selfies.

Character Study: Ashley Sibelius Peacock

On this, the day of Ashley Peacock's funeral, we look back on the life of the congenial butcher. Ashley grew from a meek and mild teenager into a meek and mild, but very nice man, loyal friend and good father.

We met Ashley in 1996, the young butcher apprentice to his uncle Fred Elliott whom we later discovered was really Ashley's dad. Ashley has been married twice, to Maxine and Claire. He has raised Maxine's son, Joshua, as his own and has a child with Claire, Freddy.

He died a hero, holding up beams from a collapsing ceiling so Nick Tilsley could get an injured Peter Barlow out of the rubble. He will be missed.

Steven Arnold says he was 'frozen out' at Corrie

You've got to pay to read it it, so I can't tell you what's in the interview because I'm not prepared to pay to read or watch content online. and I never will be.

However, if you want to see it, there's an interview today with Steven Arnold, who played Coronation Street's Ashley Peacock. The headline says: "I'm glad Ashley's got the chop - I've had two years of hurt" and the tagline is "Coronation Street star Steven Arnold says squeaky-voiced Ashley was frozen out".If you want to read it, it's here.

The Mirror also reports that Steven's now playing in panto in Portsmouth (see the full list here) and wants a family to take him in on Christmas day for dinner. Any takers?

Peacocks are leaving Corrie

Bad news I'm afraid for fans of Claire and Ashley Peacock - they're leaving Coronation Street.

New Producer Phil Collinson has reached a decision with actors Steven Arnold and Julia Haworth that the family had come to a crossroads, and would be best to move on from Weatherfield. They'll be around until at least the end of the year, with an exit possibly tying into the 50th anniversary celebrations.

What do you think of the move to axe Ashley, Claire, Josh and Freddie? I, for one, am gutted! I love the Peacock family, and they're one of the few remaining family units on the Street. They've not been given much to do since Julia Haworth went on maternity leave back in 2008, and I'm not too surprised with the news. I suspect with the new Producer coming on board we may see a few more characters moving on from the Street in the coming months!

Ashley gets the Corrie chop

There's some strong storylines coming up for the Peacocks this summer as a killer blood clot threatens Claire's life and Ashley gets the chop. Well, the snip, anyroad.

The Sun says that Claire miscarries their baby and nags Ashley to have a vasectomy. The episode will end with a close-up of Ashley's panicked face in the clinic as the surgeon picks up a scalpel.

Oh dear.

Steven Arnold in Canada

No prizes for guessing which Coronation Street character this young chap grew up to play. Yes, it's Steven Arnold, pictured here in 1989 when he was starting out on his TV acting career in Children's Ward on the BBC. We know him better now of course as Corrie butcher, Ashley Peacock.

Steven was in Canada recently where he met over 700 Corrie fans. For a write up of the event with some great pics, have a look here.
