Video: Watch 18 months of Corrie in 2 minutes flat

Coronation Street fans in New Zealand have recently had to contend with their network on TV jumping forward by a whopping 18 months in Weatherfield.

TV New Zealand did a two hour recap for Kiwi fans to catch up on all that had happened in that 18 month period.

And now, @thespinofftv have condensed the whole 18 months into two minutes.

It's a hoot. Have a look. Phelan. Phelan. Birth. Death. Phelan.

Corrie fans in chaos in New Zealand

It's a cofusing time to be a Coronation Street fan in New Zealand right now.

Corrie fans there are up in arms as the TV station which shows Corrie is jumping forward a whopping 18 months in the storyline to catch up with the UK timeline.

This means that Kiwi fans will miss out on a whole year and a half of Coronation Street episodes.

For viewers wanting to be brought up to date, a two-hour special will screen on Sunday, June 10, recapping key storylines across the 18-month lag.

The leap forward means it will be the first time in Corrie's 54-year run on New Zealand television that it has been so up to date.

I hope that what this might mean is that we have a lot more New Zealand fans coming in to visit us here at the Coronation Street Blog - and if that's the case - then a massive big HELLO to you all!

Great news for Coronation Street fans in New Zealand

There's some good news for Coronation Street fans in New Zealand.  Currently, New Zealand Corrie is 18 months behind UK storylines - but that's all set to change.

TV One reports that they are now showing another hour of Coronation Street every Saturday night in the foreseeable future, in an attempt to catch up with the UK.

From the TV One website: "Starting from September the 6th, you will be able to watch all your favourite Coronation Street fans on a Friday as per usual and Saturday! Each week, Coronation Street will continue to air for two hours on a Friday night from 7.30pm, and in addition to that, 1 hour on Saturday nights from 8.30pm. Please be aware, however, that due to our Election coverage there will be no episode on Saturday September 20, and the episodes on Friday September 6 and 19 will screen at the later time of 8.30.
So, prepare yourselves for more Coronation Street, and plenty more drama on the cobbles!"

New Zealand Corrie fan club - where no-one's a fan

There are many Coronation Street fan clubs around the world where people get together to discuss our favourite soap.  So when I heard about a Coronation Street fan club in New Zealand I was a bit surprised to hear that no-one's a fan.

The Coro Club has been formed for people to meet while their partners are at home watching Coronation Street!

The Coro Club was formed by Jim Cross, Mick Glew and Bob Newcombe who said they were tired of the weekly routine of their partners watching Coronation Street because the programme seemed to run for ages and they preferred to spend their time engrossed in "deep and meaningful conversation".

Members have been meeting on Tuesday evenings in the Sprig and Fern in Milton St for the last four years. Jim said the Coro Club had a hard core of seven members but they could get anywhere between six and 20 people attending on a Tuesday night.

The Coro Club have their own table in one corner of the pub and members also use the occasion to exchange any surplus produce they may have, such as homegrown vegetables.  Find out more here.

Coronation Street stage show to tour New Zealand

The Coronation Street stage show is set to tour New Zealand.

The New Zealand Herald reports that Coronation Street actor William Roache (Ken Barlow) will perform in the stage comedy 'Coronation Street On Stage' written by Jonathan Harvey. The play condenses Corrie's 50-year history of births, deaths, marriages and other dramatic events into one two-hour show, which the promoters say played to enormous critical acclaim throughout Britain.

It did. It was fantastic.  Read our Blog interview with Johnathan Harvey here

The show will go on stage in Auckland, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch in March and April 2013.  More details here.

'Save Coronation Street' campaign hots up in New Zealand

Coronation Street fans in New Zealand are up in arms over TV One changing the screening time of their favourite show.  There's now an online petition that fans can sign and even a Save Coro song on Youtube.

Show your support for Corrie fans in NZ and sign the petition. Just think how we'd all feel here in the UK if Corrie was moved to 5.30pm instead of 7.30pm each night - and all because they're giving preference to flippin' MasterChef too!

New Zealand Corrie fans outraged at time change

Coronation Street fans in New Zealand have expresed their outrage at the decision to screen Coronation Street earlier in the evening to make way for the final shows of MasterChef Australia. TVNZ announced today that Coronation Street is moving from 7,.30pm to 5.30pm from October 17 to make way for MasterChef.

Since the change was announced tvnz.co.nz has received dozens of messages from fans of the show angered by the move. Explaining the reasoning for the move, Jeff Latch, head of TV ONE and TV2, said: "New Zealanders clearly welcomed the opportunity to watch the final of MasterChef Australia in primetime, so this year we are excited to screen at 7.30pm the final action-packed weeks of the Australian MasterChef competition."

He said coverage of the election in October and November will mean the schedule change will remain in place for Coronation Street and "a number of other primetime shows" for that period.Latch said TVNZ is "mindful of the need to provide regular access for Coronation Street viewers" and the decision was made to move the show rather than dump it for three weeks. Latch said he hasn't made a call on what will happen at the end of the three weeks.

Coronation Street fan club in New Zealand

Calling Kiwi Corrie fans...is there a Coronation Street fan club in New Zealand?

The reason I'm asking this via the blog is that I've received a shed load of emails this week from New Zealand Corrie fans asking if there's a fan club there for fans to join.

If you know of one and can leave details below in the comments box, that would be great. Thank you - kia-ora!
