Did Carla Connor marry her cousin?

With the news that Jonny Connor is going to turn out to be Carla's biological dad, some of the tabloids this week have carried the shock! horror! story that it'll mean an incest storyline on Coronation Street.

Not so.

If Jonny does indeed turn out to be Carla's real dad, this means that Carla married her third cousin when she wed Paul Connor. She also lusted after and had a fling with Paul's brother Liam, who was also her third cousin. 

ITV have confirmed to us here at the Coronation Street Blog that the family tree we've drawn up showing that Carla is third cousins (and not second cousins) with Paul, Liam and Michelle Connor is the family tree model they have used too. 

As marriage between cousins is legal in the UK, it means that there isn't an incest storyline coming up in Corrie.  Whether it makes a good storyline remains to be seen.

Spoiler: Secret dad shocker for Carla in Coronation Street

Marc Baylis will be returning to Coronation Street as Rob Donovan over the coming weeks.  And Marc's already hinted that Rob will have a secret that could blow the Connor clan apart.

And today, the Daily Star reveal what that secret is.

Rob tells Jonny that he's Carla's real, biological dad and then demands £10,000 to keep quiet with the shock news! 

The Star says that Johnny confides in Liz McDonald and admits to having a one night stand with Carla's mum.  In scenes filmed earlier this month Johnny tells Liz: "It's a relief just to tell someone. She doesn't know, neither do my kids and I don't want it getting back to them because there's no point stirring things up at this stage. I always suspected it but I shoved it to the back of my mind."

Concerned Liz asks: "Why didn't you ask her mum? and Johnny replies: "I told myself it couldn't be, it was just the once and Sharon put herself about a bit, it could have been anyones. Also, I suppose in a way I didn't want to know, I was married at the time. It's not something I am proud of."

Johnny will then go off and attempt to carry out a secret DNA test without Carla knowing what he's up to. Everyone will have to wait and see the outcome of the DNA test and whether or not Johnny pays Rob the money he's demanding.

Now, hang on a cotton-picking-knicker-stitching minute.  If Jonny is Carla's real dad, does this mean she married her cousin?  Well, yes. It means she married her third cousin Paul Connor.  Time to bring out the Connor family tree again!

Two new characters arrive in Coronation Street tonight

Two new characters arrive in Coronation Street tonight.

Aidan Connor's dad Jonny and his sister Kate turn up in Underworld. Aidan has some explaining to do to Carla when Jonny Connor reveals where Aidan really got his cash from to buy into Underworld.

Meanwhile Michelle chats to Jonny's sister Kate about her upcoming wedding to soldier Caz.

Kate Connor is played by Faye Brooks and Jonny Connor is played by Richard Hawley.

Pic: Meet the new Connor clan on Coronation Street

Here's the first official publicity picture showing the two new additions to the Connor clan.

Jonny Connor and Kate Connor will arrive on screen in the soap next week.

Jonny is Aidan Connor's dad and Kate Connor is Aidan's sister.

What else do we know about them so far?  Well, Jonny is played by actor Richard Hawley and Kate is played by Faye Brooks.

Kate is engaged to her girlfriend who is a soldier, and she'll be joining the show soon. You can find out more about her here.

Johnny will be a "man about town", a self made man in his own right. He's described as: "Funny, charming, ruthless in business, Johnny is the sort of guy you'd be proud to call a friend". 

I like the sound of Jonny a lot, as I feel Corrie needs another man of an older age to join in with Ken, Roy and Norris.

All we need now is our battle-axe back.
