I'm not the best cook in the world but thought I'd give Betty's Hotpot (vegetarian style) a go this afternoon. It was easy to make, full of some delicious fresh ingredients including my favourites lentils and parsnips - pharp!
It's just come out of the oven and so I haven't tasted it yer but thewhole house smells delicious. If you'd like the vegetarian recipe that honours Coronation Street's Betty's Hot Pot, it's here.

'Cook a Dish for Corrie' - winner announced
Move over Betty's Hot Pot. Marilyn's Corrie Cobbler is taking your place. Marilyn Bersey from the Isle of Wight has won the ITV competition to 'Cook a Dish For Corrie'.
A panel of three judges, including celebrity chef Phil Vickery, voted Mal's Corrie Cobbler the top dish over the other contestants. Her recipe will now replace Betty's Hotpot on Coronation Street.
Before the winner was announced Mal, who's been a fan of the show since it began, said "It would be wonderful to be a part of something that's been a part of my life for 50 years."
Find out more about Mal and get the recipe for her Corrie Cobbler at ITV's This Morning website.

Corrie's Ciaran turns thieving
There's an excellent little Coronation Street spoiler in today's Daily Star that says Ciaran McCarthy (Keith Duffy) is going to steal Betty's hotpot recipe.
Ciaran is going to get a job at Nick's new bar Turners Joinery and he steals Betty's recipe to serve up hotpot in the new place. Hmm... would Betty really have the hotpot recipe wrote down? Anyway, Betty threatens to string me-laddo up when she finds out.

Betty's hotpot to go on sale in the shops (again)
While playing with your Corrie Nintendo game later this year, you'll also be able to enjoy Corrie-branded food. Holland's Pies is relaunching Betty's Hot Pots to be sold in supermarkets.I recall these being on sale a few years ago in the shops although being a vegetarian I've never tried one. Anyone know if they were any good and anyone willing to do a review of the new hotpot when it hits the shops?

Betty's killer hot-pot
However, local Enid Crump (what a great name!) is furious because she is 91 and still works in The Parsons Arms boozer. She storms into the Rovers and creates merry hell. Steve offers her a sherry and a hotpot to calm her down but can only find one at the back of the fridge. He microwaves the meal, not realising it is two months old. Later, he and Betty discover Enid has been rushed to a doctor and is at death's door with food poisoning. By 'eck.

Coronation Street beats EastEnders in TV Awards
Corrie has beaten EastEnders in the Observer Food Monthly Magazine TV Awards. Oh yes, this is the TV awards that matter, bigger than the Soap Awards, bigger than telly itself. Well, sort of.The award for best recurring restaurant/meal in a long-running TV drama series went to... drum roll, please.... Betty's Hot Pot in Coronation Street. It beat EastEnders caff into second place.
