Episode Review Friday 26 December 2025

So Daniel got hit over the head; turns out that Will was responsible for the initial assault which Maggie witnessed from the upstairs window at number 1,  She left number one and went round to the entryway or ginnel and removed his watch and wallet which have now been found on a rough sleeper who is being detained at His Majesty's local residence on the belief that if he has the stolen items he must be responsible for the assault and theft.  We know different.

Talking of things we know but most of the Street does not yet know.  Becky has Carla contained in a closet - or she did.  There is a mystery phone call where someone has done something for Becky so I think we might assume that Carla is no longer in the closet.

Elsewhere we have known for some time that Carl is a disreputable, dishonest Tyrone injurer and all round bad egg.  Tracy has been on his case for some time and has a few words with Abi about men being deceitful.  Abi also spots that Michael has a necklace identical to James who reveals that they both had the same gift from their mother Aggie this year and she ahs already seen the identical one of the sofa in the flat.  By dint of asking Carl to type in his passcode to his phone and reading the messages Carl has been exchanging with James it is now clear that Abi has her worst suspicions confirmed - what Abi does not yet know and Debbie has not yet worked out is just how much Carl has ripped off of R'Debbie.

Theo has booked a spa break for himself and Todd - and inevitably it falls on the same date as Summer has organised for her and Todd to attend a film festival and Q&A with Andrew Scott, which was not in the diary so Theo knew nothing about it.  Inevitable Todd feels he has to go on the spa break and Billy tells Todd how he has changed since got with Theo and leaves a sour taste all the way round.  These things happen - but we all start wondering where the hotel is - apparently Anne Boleyn stayed there but it turns out it is in Somerset.

Unsolved crimes against storytelling this week.  Alya has been homeless as far as I am aware since Yasmeen sold the house to Carla.  Amazingly she is going to move in with Adam - wherever he is living?  Also worth noting tonight was Evelyn who was wondering about stirring the pot with Abi. Maggie and at the start of the episode walking Roy's dog she found Daniel lying down.

I should be here next week but will definitely not be here the following week as I am once again going on holiday.

Episode Review Friday 21 November 2025

//Warning I do not like this story.//  Theo brings home a huge selection of pastries and talks Todd into eating them.  Once Todd is full Theo suggests that perhaps they should go for a run as they have nothing else to do and quite reasonably Todd declines which annoys Theo who goes off for his run being joined by James, although Todd has a change of heart Theo tells him not to bother.  James suggests that Theo should sign up for the forthcoming Weatherfield Half Marathon.  Theo returns from his run and shames Todd into joining him on another run but Theo is already going at high speed and Todd is cold so on their return Todd looks completely shell shocked whilst Theo warmly announces he has signed Todd up for the Half Marathon as well so that they can raise money for MND charity and after all Todd does not want a spare tyre round his middle.

Tracy winds up her best friend Abi who responds by socking her one in the bar.  Eva immediately bans them both.  Outside Abi has a breakdown and tells Tracy why she is wound up over Kev wanting Alfie.  Tracy marches around to Kev who is having a bad day.  He wanted another poker session but no-one was willing to join him for the evening so he suggests to Jack that they have an evening together and he then finds out that Jack has made other plans to spend the evening with his mates at the precinct (he has mates?).  Tracy gives Kev a piece of her mind over Alfie and Kev admits that he would not have gone through with it.  Tracy and Abi return to the Rovers and Maggie unbans them so Eva (who Maggie says does not have people skills) goes on her break.  This is bad news for Sean, Izzy, Sarah and Kirk who were all waiting for round two between Tracy and Abi, with Sean likening it to a pound shop Vardy vs Rooney confrontation.

Roy's correspondence with three prisoners now seems to have been extended to the mother of one of them who thanks Roy for his activities.  This leads Roy to thinking of a small book exchange point in the cafe which Ed provides the book stand and Brian arranges the various books.  Categorising Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" as either fiction or a travel book leads to a disagreement between Roy and Brian who insists it is about travel but Roy asserts it is a novel.  The book moves back and forth.

It is Lisa's birthday and Carla has a special day planned out.  Becky is able to ruin it before it starts as she knows that Lisa is keen on tulips whilst Carla has roses.  It gets silly when  WPC Davies turns up at the factory to invite Carla to attend the police station as there have been allegations of fraud within the factory.  Once at the station Carla is made to wait but eventually Kit says she can go.  Carla is convinced the allegations were made by Becky and is just about to get her hands around Becky's throat when Lisa appears to inform them both that the complaint was made by an ex-client of Underworld.  Eli Merton who accused Sarah of sexual harassment so Carla spread rumours about him and he was exacting his revenge.  Carla admits she had lunch with a mate of Eli's and she did slag him off a lot.  Even Carla has to admit it made her look Una Thurman in Kill Bill.  Carla later returns home with dirty burgers for dinner and she and Lisa make up as Lisa has told Becky to leave them alone.

And in other news Kirk has decided to start a podcast on dog training where he answers queries about separation anxiety, barking, pulling on the lead.  A pet food company could sponsor it.  Ryan thinks it is a good idea.

Finally Abi is able to look forward to a future with Carl and Alfie and Alfie wants a long soak in a bubble bath this evening.  Carl phones Germany, apparently speaks to an old mate who is happy to offer him somewhere to stay until he can get his own place.  Carl makes it clear he will be travelling on his own, so I assume the prospect of a life with Abi and Alfie does not appeal to him.  Poor Debbie.

If we avoid talking about Todd and Theo (and Becky's existence) then we mainly have the stories of people in the back streets of Weatherfield having a set to in the local which provides for sparring between strong women - Maggie/Eva and Abi/Tracy; some gentle comedy from Royston and Brian plus Ryan and Kirk (I think the podcast will be a winner).  Please will someone (Sarah preferably) talk some sense into Todd before he suffers any more.  I will not be here next week as I hope to be in Paphos.  All being well I plan to be back the following Friday and it will be December and it is all downhill.  Also tomorrow I am off to see Paddington in the fur - so very very excited.

Episode Review Friday 17 October 2025

Good evening.  Asha returns home with Dev trying to restore and rebuild her but the task is of a Sisyphean size as she is unable to find any way out of the mental black hole into which she has fallen - she has completely lost her way.  Indeed she goes for a lie down when Bernie is in the middle of a funny story (well Dev chuckled).  Bernie is still looking for a way to get back at Naomi - but Dev feels all they can worry about is Asha.

Finding her way is Bethany who is working at R'Audrey's who also has Hope in for a work experience day.  A customer is peddling unlicenced weight loss drugs which Hope decides to liberate.  This leads to a tussle between Bethany and Cassie defending her delinquent grandchild during which Bethany's stoma is dislodged.  All messy.  Eventually Hope admits her theft of the pills but Bethany calls out the customer for attempting to sell the tablets to an underage person so the police are not called.  Which is worse - Hope being bullied online or Asha being bullied to her face?  Why two such similar events within a short timescale?  However Cassie notes how well Bethany talked to Hope about the dangers of falling for people peddling drugs that probably mean that Bethany will discover a new career to pursue.  And of course Daniel is once again teaching at Hope's school.

Talking of bullying, Todd's car (did we know he had a car - even an old rackety one which is in need of significant expenditure?) breaks down as he and Theo were going out for the day.  By the end of the programme Theo (who is no doubt going through an expensive divorce and does not seem to do much scaffolding work) has managed to get a new car for Todd to drive.

Meanwhile Betsy appears to have been a little outspoken, exchanging a few words with Inspector Costello and then allegedly attacking a police car and resisting arrest, although no-one can find the CCTV footage to back up the story.  Why was a DI at the same place as Betsy who denies it all.  It becomes clear that Costello has faked it all to get the "situation" under control.  Outcome is that Betsy spends a second night inside (which ignores the standard 24 hour time limit); no-one phoned Lisa from the station the first night and Adam fails to get her out at the end of the 24 hours - she may have resisted arrest but PACE has to be observed.

Becky has two private meetings in ginnels with Costello where she makes it clear that she will only be heading back to Spain providing Lisa and Becky are on the flight with her.  Meanwhile Becky talks Lisa into letting her spend the night at Number 6 Coronation Street, something which Carla is not told when she has a video call with Lisa.  Carla does however make it clear just how little she likes Becky who can hear what she is saying, as Carla does not know the skunk is in the house.

Tracy goes to some lengths to try and get Cassie out of Number 1 and back to Tyrone's wangling some concert tickets from the bassist of the Drunken Wastrels - a band that Fiz would like to see.  However Fiz is not falling for it and the tickets are rejected.  Tracy warns Cassie to stay out or her wardrobe - however that is like a red rag to a rampaging bull.

The bad news is that poor Hope is being endlessly bullied with messages on her phone and so we are presumably going to have the horrors of online bullying for the next few weeks.

I felt this evening that for this evening the team had decided that they would treat us to a total fantasy.  I am only hopeful that it was all a dream; plus point tonight we did not see the inside of the hospital.  Apologies but feeling jaded by the balance of the stories.
