Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 6th October

ASHA - CORONATION STREET - ITV

At the top of the episode Dev says that Asha is as good as gold, so you know by 8.27 p.m. that she's going to be lying unconscious somewhere, getting high on Dev's supply (of wine). I presume this storyline will end with her either on anti-depressants and counselling, or giving up her paramedic career to work in the shop. She talks about how sad she felt when she couldn't save Mason or when Craig died. Don't worry Asha, he's gone to a better place! (Radio Leeds). It's surprising that more of the residents of t'cobbles aren't on Prozac, given the amount of murders that take place in an average year.

Dev is in denial about Asha's depression, but then again he was in denial when Asha left home aged 16 to live with Corey, or when she was using skin lightening cream. Asha herself was in denial when Corey killed Seb, so I guess it runs in the family.

THEO - TODD - CORONATION STREET - ITV

The person who finds Asha was Theo, so becomes the hero of the hour - with both Todd who's mad at him for disappearing for two days and George who spoke for the nation when he asked Todd if Theo is really worth it. You know Todd's going to end up locked in that flat sometime soon, probably during Britain's Got Talent Week.

TIM - KEV - TYRONE - STEVE - KIRK - CORONATION STREET - ITV

Meanwhile the first inaugural meeting of Weatherfield's CALM takes place in the Rovers, with Kev, Dev, Tim, Tyrone, Steve and Kirk. The menfolk have easy chemistry and this is the kind of scene we want more of, although I do worry about their livers considering a) it's only Monday and b) they're all over 40. Their bants turn serious as they promise to always talk about their problems. It's also mentioned that the Alahans have a large family tree now that Bernie has joined, meaning that Gemma and Ches and thus Fiz and Tyrone, not to mention Kit and Brodie, are part of it. The Alahan-Winter-Battersby-Brown-Green-Michaelis-Dobbs - it makes the Hapsburgs look like Elizabeth I.

TIM - TRISHA - CORONATION STREET - ITV

Tim has other stuff on his mind, namely Trisha, his former squeeze turning up as a fare and then in the Rovers, glamorous in gold. I wonder if she's still married to that haulier, back when she was calling herself Nadine. Tim is too taken by her (and also the Newton and Ridley's in the pub) to get back for his anniversary meal with Sally and she is understandably quite peeved. Given that Sally and Kev enjoyed a heart to heart earlier, I wonder if TPTB are hinting at a little affaire de coeur?

I don’t really see how Theo is the hero. He found Asha on the bench went to find somebody else, saw Amy straight away who rang the ambulance. Yes he was there at the right time but that hardly makes him a hero.

Dev has turned every issue with his kids into being about himself and how it reflects on him. he's been a horrible parent to those kids for their entire lives. Of course Asha is going to end up working in the shop - how dare she get ideas above her station! Doesn't she know everyone who lives on The Street has to work on The Street? It's either that or stitching knickers in the faktry.

I cannot wait for Todd to kick Theo to the curb! I am loving Christina and George together, starting to dislike Tim and his affair that will happen. Loved the scene of the guys all "cheering" Kev up..haha

Yes Dev is an awful parent. Rivalled only by Cilla. Thank goodness the twins had Mary. Poor lovely Asha is destined for the same path as every other bright young person - shop, faktri pub or café.
It makes no sense for Tim to have an affair. He and Sally have a healthy and passionate relationship. Unless it's a way of writing him out, now that his real-life wife is leaving? Tricia is a nasty piece of work, clearly planning to groom Tim all over again.
Who thinks up these horrible storylines?

Dev is part of the problem was my instinctual comment after this episode. Always about him and nobody can live up to his expectations.

I don't think Tim is leaving but I think the fact that he was groomed, but is in denial, is really interesting. He was a under-age teen with an older woman, and he can't see anything wrong with it.
I feel it's a pretty realistic view, especially with a guy of his age.
If she's still a predator, she wouldn't be that interested in the adult Tim, unless this flirting is a way of dropping a hint re: their past and hoping that he wouldn't say anything to anyone?
Well, she didn't manage to buy his silence with a fancy pasty. He's already let the cat out of the bag with Brian, who was understandbly, taken aback.
I agree about Dev. Getting angry with Asha helps no- one but later he admitted that he was angry with himself, as he was unable to reach out to her.
He's not the best parent but I guess he is trying his best! I hope Bernie will make him see things from another point of view.
I hope Summer, Amy and Nina help Asha.

Tim is incredibly stupid if he thinks meeting Tricia in secret is OK because he's told her he's happily married! She may have been significant 40 years ago but it was only for a few weeks. Highly unlikely they would even have recognised each other. Her pursuit of him is very suspicious. Brian is bound to blab, and so he should.
Re Asha, for the first time ever I agreed with Bernie!

Jeanie--Tim is acting completely out of character! He and Sally have had serious blow ups over much less than this and now he's spontaneously planning a drink in the city with this flirty woman and quite casually, naturally, effortlessly lying about it! That's not the person he is- ridiculous!
