After last week’s racism storyline in the Bistro, Ray apologises to the Bailey family and gives them a free meal on the house. James is picked to play for Weatherfield County and Michael gets a date with Grace and gets to see his daughter Tianna. All seems to be getting back to normal but when James tells his Weatherfield County team mates he’s gay, there are some snarky comments in the dressing room. Step up Tommy Orpington who defends James to the team. What a guy. Plus there’s even more joy when Kirk sings the James Bailey song that Weatherfield County fans have created about him, it’s wonderful, and we finally see a smile on James’ face.
Elsewhere this week, Shona’s back on the show after the actress who played her returns from maternity leave. She’s lost her memory and needs reminding who everyone is. She still won’t see David and Sarah takes her on a tour of the Platt house, which Shona doesn’t recognise, although her instincts remind her where the tea bags are. David is forced out of the house while Shona visits, and he sits in Roy’s cafe using his phone to communicate with his family on the Platt Chat App. There’s a great scene between Roy and David too, a lovely little touch.
In hospital, little Oliver lies in his bed being fussed over by Leanne, Steve and Nick, but I’m afraid I zone out every time this storyline comes on. I know it’s important, they’re highlighting a disease, they’re raising awareness, but I don’t care about the characters, and it all seems rather forced.
David puts himself in danger this week, again, when he taunts a group of lads in a park and they give chase after him before beating him up. David needs to feel something, anything, even if it means putting himself in danger. Will Shona’s return to the street finally bring an end to his self-destruct button? We’ll see. David goes running with Craig who reminds him he's not invincible: “You’re not The Flash, you’re David Platt.”
Last week Gemma recorded her first vlog about being an exhausted mum to quads. It w asn’t meant to go public, she says, but it’s too late. Baby Bryn touches the screen and the vlog goes live to the world.
And finally this week, Alya visits her gran in prison but Yasmeen won’t listen to what Alya says and despite everything – EVERYTHING – Yasmeen is still defending Geoff. Meanwhile, Geoff is released from hospital and heads home only to find Alya and Ryan have changed the locks and have barricaded themselves inside, refusing to let Geoff in. With nowhere else to go Geoff is taken in by Sally and Tim, let’s hope it won’t be too long before Sally come to realise what a beast of man her father-in-law is.
