Jean Alexander leaves hospital, thanks fans for concern

Yesterday we reported that Coronation Street's Hilda Ogden actress Jean Alexander had been taken into hospital. Today the Mirror reports that she is back home, and they have some quotes from Jean's brother.

Jean's brother, Kenneth Hodgkinson, 90, tells the Mirror: “She is very grateful for all the interest shown by the public in her. It is very kind of people to still be interested in her.” But Kenneth said his sister does not want any fuss.

Mr Hodgkinson said Jean was taken into hospital after feeling ill last week. “She still has a bit of difficulty with walking. She has managed to walk with a frame. She seems to be doing well and is being well cared for. But she is very tired and does not want to do any interviews yet. She will need a little bit of time to be looked after where she is being cared for.”

“She seems reasonably chirpy and not in danger. From what I hear she is pottering about and so on. It seems to have passed over.”

Spot the Corrie prop - June 27th 2014

Congratulations to "C from Canada" who was the only person to spot that last week's handy heart-shaped hooks can be found in Sally & Tim's house.

For this week's prop poser just tell us where on Coronation Street you would find this handbag hanging off the bannisters.

The Return of Cilla

This news might not please everyone but I'm chuffed to little mint balls about it. Wendi Peters is reprising the role of Cilla Battersby later this year in a six week return.

ITV says she'll be back in October and that the storyline will involve Jennie McAlpine's exit for her maternity leave. The storyline is hush hush at the moment but Fiz and Chesney will no doubt get a big surprise when Cilla sashays back into their lives, causing trouble, I would imagine.

Wendi is looking forward to coming back.

"I'm really thrilled to have the opportunity to revisit Cilla and the cobbles for a short while and to see what she has been up to for the last 7 years."

Producer Stuart Blackburn says  “We can't wait to see Cilla back on the cobbles, she's a truly unforgettable character who is at the heart of Corrie's rich history.”

Wendi has been keeping herself busy on screen and doing a lot of theatre work over the past few years. I am looking forward to Cilla's sneer once again! She's one of those "love to hate" characters that I always enjoyed, thanks to Wendi Peters' great portrayal!
