Greetings and welcome to the Coronation Street Weekly Update.  Find out more about the Coronation Street Weekly Updates and why they've been written for th'internet since 1995 at http://www.corrieweeklyupdates.btinternet.co.uk

It’s been all go at Weatherfield General this week. First up is Audrey who’s recovering well and sitting up in best Marksies nightie in th’ospital bed with tubes up her nose. She wants nowt to do with David who’s feeling so guilty he wants the old salon sign put back up. Kylie’s not best pleased and does what sister Becky would have done, she goes out and gets bladdered with a couple of lads. Then she ends up in the Bistro, drunk and dancing on the tables and thumps David across the chops when he blames her for Audrey’s heart attack.  And that’s the last we’ll see of Kylie for a while as she takes little Max and moves out.

A short walk across the wards we’ve got Julie and Brian having their 12 week baby scan and Julie’s all excited in her special Julie way. But there’s bad news as the ultrasound doesn’t show a baby! Julie’s not pregnant at all. She does, however, have a growth on her ovary which will need an operation and she drowns her sorrows and baby hopes and wishes in the Rovers with a large brandy or three. Brian’s by her side and tries his best to support her in that special bloke way: “Everything’ll be all right.”  Julie’s not so sure.

Over at Se7venth Hea7en, Terry’s having trouble as the locals stage a sit in. Determined to keep their spirits high, they order in food from Roy’s Rolls and have a sing along, with a classic Corrie moment when Norris, Mary, Anna and a reluctant Roy do a wonderful version of Bohemian Rhapsody.  I’m loving this storyline. Terry’s a pantomime villain and the dame all rolled into one, oh yes he is, and there have been some comedy moments and quite touching scenes too as Tommy tries and fails to find the hero he thinks is inside his dad’s rather portly frame.

But Kirsty reckons there’s summat dodgy going on between Terry and Weatherfield Council as his planning permission for the lap-dancing club has been given too quick and too easy and sure enough, it’s been greased along by a corrupt Councillor.  Pretending she and Tyrone are coppers “Come on, Dobbs!” they get into the councillor’s office and find him there with Terry. The plot thickens. It gets even thicker when they find out that the Councillor’s new, shiny and expensive Mercedes Benz is registered in Terry’s name and Kirsty sends the info to her mates in CID. Is this the end of Terry’s plan to put strippers on the Street?

Over at the Rovers, Sean’s having trouble with Betty’s hotpot recipe. However closely he follows the recipe, the hotpot doesn’t taste as good as when Betty used to make it and he’s at a loss to explain where he’s going wrong. When he delivers a batch of hotpot to the Rovers, Tina knows what the missing ingredient is and pours in a whole bottle of stout. “I’ve seen Betty do that a million times.”  A wonderful touch.

Meanwhile, Kevin thinks he and Sally are back together again but Sally’s not so sure. Sally tells Kevin she loves him but can’t love him as much as she wants to because he loves baby Jack, who’s got shifty eyes. Sally says baby Jack is a constant reminder of Kev’s infidelity and she can’t live with it. I would have thought that looking at Kevin would have been a reminder of Kevin’s infidelity but it looks like she’s choosing to blame the baby instead. And what a shifty-eyed looking baby that is. Sally has a moan and a cry on Rita’s well padded shoulder and then Kevin comes up with a cunning plan. He’ll offer shifty-eyed baby Jack to Pam and Bill and then he and Sally can live happily ever after. Hmm, I wonder.

Elsewhere, the uncomfortable alliance of Sunita and Karl sets my teeth on edge every time they’re on screen together at the same time.  And so when Dev announces he’s taking Aadi away on a kiddie golf game and needs to stay overnight, Sunita strumpets the news to Karl who fixes his face with his Cheshire cat grin and this fan tries hard not to vom.

And finally this week, the Weatherfield in Bloom competition kicks off and Mary motors into action. She hangs hanging baskets up whether folk want them or not and thumbs seed catalogues when she babysits little FAYe. Anna’s left her with FAYe as she’s started her evening job in Dev’s shop and it’s not long before Mary’s made FAYe swap her computer game for polishing her boots. Love it!

Top 60 Corrie Characters - No. 14

14. Audrey Roberts 1979-1982, 1984- (99 votes)

Crimper Audrey first appeared for daughter Gail and fiancĂ© Brian’s engagement party and immediately set her sights on Len Fairclough, only for his wife Rita to warn her off. Audrey and Gail’s relationship was initially frosty due to Audrey’s tendency to be flighty and not be there for Gail. She would pop in and out of Gail’s life until she found stability with grocer Alf Roberts whom she married in 1985. Alf and Audrey would become one of Corrie’s best loved couples. Although a floozy hairdresser, Audrey saw herself of a higher status due to her being married to a councillor and when Alf was elected mayor in 1994, she was in her element as mayoress but was miffed when Alf sacked her and appointed Betty Turpin in her place. Alf and Audrey were married until Alf’s death in 1999 and since then she’s had many gentlemen friends but none have matched up to her ‘Alfeh’. Among the men she’s been involved with are Fred Elliott, Archie Shuttleworth, Keith Appleyard, Bill Webster, Lewis Archer and Marc Selby. In 2002, she fell victim to son in law Richard Hillman’s clutches who convinced her she was going senile in a bid to get her inheritance and nearly killed her by setting her house on fire. Audrey’s attempts to convince everybody of Richard’s evil deeds fell on deaf ears but when she was proved right, the residents had to accept they were wrong. Audrey’s best friend for many years was Alma Baldwin and when Alma was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2001, Audrey was her rock during those difficult months. Audrey was devastated when Alma died a few months later at her house. Since Alf’s death, Audrey has become a much respected member of the community and owns her own salon on the street and has become the ultimate matriarch of the Platt family, despite numerous clashes with Gail and her grandchildren.

Should Audrey be at 14? Should she be in the top 10? Are you a fan? Leave a comment!

Lloyd returns to Corrie as Streetcars cabbie rival

Great news for fans for Craig Charles, he'll be back on our screens soon on Coronation Street after his stint away filming Red Dwarf.

And there's a rumour in The Sun today that says his character, cabbie Lloyd Mullaney, will make his return working for a rival cab-firm, and not for Streetcars on the cobbles.

Let's hope Steve gets Lloyd back on the books at Streetcars as soon as he can. Those two are Corrie gold together.

Craig has already started filming on Corrie, and The Sun have a picture of him "fuming as taxi breaks down".
