Coronation Street set tours to go ahead in 2014

I've been there and done that, but I'm going to do it again.

It's been confirmed by the Manchester Evening News that the tours of the old Coronation Street Set on Quay Street, Manchester are going ahead for 6 months this year, starting in April and ending in October.

The new owners of the site are  planning to do it as a group tour through the studios and the outside set where they will walk groups of punters through Corrie history, let them have a look at a few of the famous sets, the green room and even a few dressing rooms before letting the tourists loose on the cobbles themselves. There may be a gift shop and a cafe. It all sounds pretty good, to me!

It will be branded "Old Granada Studios" and looks to be opened in April though there is no word on entrance fees and hours yet. I'm going to be in Manchester in early April so I really hope it's open by then! I've been to the set a few times but one last chance is calling my name and if it's available, I'm not passing it by!

You can see photos of my past adventures on the cobbles and of a few local Corrie events here.

Corrie's new set: Progress update

Mark Whitfield, the man who takes the pictures used for MediaCity UK's flickr feed has posted his December batch of pictures, which you can view here. There looks to be a lot of groundwork going on at the site now, keep an eye on this blog, and Mark's site for more pictures! There's also a picture timeline of the construction of the whole of the MediaCity UK complex on the site, it's definitely worth a look.

Who lives where on Coronation Street?

Over on my blog I have made a few pictures detailing the layout of Coronation Street, and where everybody lives. I put them together to illustrate to some Corrie fans where everybody lives, as they weren't quite sure of the layout of the street, or the location of Victoria Street.

Earlier this year I had a go at mapping out Weatherfield using the 'Wider Weatherfield' shots from the 50th anniversary week. Take a look here and see if you can work out where's where in Weatherfield!

Noticeable changes to the new set

Over on my Weatherfield Recorder blog, I've made quite a big list of all the changes I can spot on the model of the new set that we posted about yesterday. It's worth a look as I've dug up many comparison pictures so you can compare the differences yourself. It seems the majority of changes fix some of the problems that the Granada Studios set has.

Picture update - Coronation Street's new set

With full credit to Media City UK Salford Quay's photostream on flicker, here's an updated picture of Coronation Street's new set.  There's still not much to see except for the groundworks going on but it's history in the making, folks!

Keep your eye on their flickr photos here.
