Do You Recognise this Coronation Street Nurse?

Today is International Nurse's Day and I've just posted some nurse-related Coronation Steret pictures to our twitter account here.

One of the pictures I've posted was Nurse Martin Platt but then it was pointed out to me that the female nurse sitting with him is none other than a young Lisa George, who currently plays Beth Sutherland in Corrie!

Lisa has been in Coronation Street twice before her role as Beth Tinker (now Sutherland).

She first appeared, as in the picture above, as an unnamed nurse colleague of Martin Platt in September 1997.

And she appeared again for six episodes as a Family Liaison Officer working on the investigation of Tommy Harris's murder between March and April 2005.

Lisa George swaps the cobbles for a Collie

Coronation Street actress Lisa George left the cobbles behind this week to indulge her passion in life for man's best friend.

Lifelong dog-lover Lisa, who plays Beth Sutherland, took a trip to Dogs Trust Manchester to meet some of the homeless hounds waiting for their forever homes at the Denton-based Rehoming Centre.

She said: "I have always had dogs in my life and absolutely adore them. I can't begin to imagine how sad it is for people when they have to give them up and it's tragic if a dog is simply abandoned. But it's fantastic to see the love and care they get at Dogs Trust Manchester. They are so relaxed and happy it's wonderful."

Lisa visited the Rehoming Centre with Corrie colleague Adam Blease who has worked as a background artist for almost ten years in the Street’s Underworld factory as ‘Dirk’, alongside knicker-stitcher Beth.

Lisa George donates her nan's bag to Corrie's Beth

Coronation Street actress Lisa George, who plays Beth Sutherland on the show, has joined twitter.  You can follow her at @LisaGeorgeActor.

Lisa tweeted this week a lovely picture of herself with her nan, which you can see on her twitter account. She also posted the picture above. As you can see, Lisa has donated her nan's handbag on the show as a prop for her character Beth. What a lovely thing to do.

When David Neilson first joined Corrie to play Roy Cropper, the bag that Roy carried belonged to Roy's mother Phyllis who had just passed away.

David said: “That bag went round Loughborough market for many years! It will be 30 years old now. My mother died just before I joined the show so I was chucking stuff out and thought it would be good for Roy.

“He was always knocking on Deirdre’s door, asking if she needed a bit of shopping and initially they gave me a carrier bag. But you see guys standing at bus stops with bags like that and I thought I’d introduce it. It’s also very handy to carry my scripts round in!

“Roy’s key on the piece of knicker elastic attached to the bag was also my mother’s. We fastened it on to the bag for her, because she kept locking herself out.She was forever calling out the police or the glazier to get her back in and they’d have to break the window.”

Video: Colson Smith on Faye's pregnancy storyline

The rather fab Colson Smith who plays Craig Tinker, and Lisa George, who plays his mum Beth, were interviewed on ITV's This Morning today.

It was Colson's first live interview and he did very well.

Colson explained that Craig has to convince his mum Beth that he's not the dad of Faye's baby girl on Coronation Street.  He talks about Craig's friendship with Faye and how Craig helps out Faye and is present when she gives birth.

He says that the storyline is good fun to play and is an important one too in that it does happen in real life.

Talking about Darryl the rat, Colson says it wees a lot on the Corrie set!

You can watch the video here.

Video: Behind the scenes gossip from Kirk and Beth's wedding

Lisa George and Andy Whyment, who play Beth and Kirk, were interviewed from the cobbles on this morinng's Lorraine show on ITV. They talked about the wedding, to be shown on Friday 9 January.

The clip shown on Lorraine reveals that Kirk doesn't turn up for the wedding - and everone's in a panic!  Best man Chesney turns up Kirk-less and says the groom has gone AWOL.

Talking about Kirkeh's cold feet, Andy Whyment says that Kirk has some wobbles after he's heard Beth's family slagging him off. But he says: "Hopefully Chesney will sort him out."  Talking about whether Kirk will win round Beth's family, Lisa says that Kirk's the sort of person who wins everyone round in the end.

Lisa talks about the 80s style wedding and the Madonna wedding dress. "I loved the dress, it was amazing. Everyone worked so hard on it. I felt like a fairy!".

Lorraine called Beth and Kirk the 'new Jack and Vera' to which Andy said it was a huge compliment and he was very pleased Beth and Kirk's on-screen relationship was working so well.

Lisa George interviewed about Corrie's Beth Tinker

Digital Spy has a good interview with Lisa George who plays gobby Beth Tinker today.  She tells us that she's still got a few months left on her contract and is waiting to find out if it will be renewed (Oh I do hope so!).

Lisa has been an actor for 16 years and also teaches singing and she's thrilled to be on Coronation Street and working every day.

When asked about Beth's similarity to Cilla Battersby-Brown she replied that she doesn't think there's a lot, other than a bit of a resemblance.  "But I don't think that Beth is as callous as Cilla was. Cilla didn't care for her kids, but Beth is really soft. She comes across as gobby and harsh, but she's a very different character to Cilla. I'd like to think that people see that."  I will agree with that.

I don't know about you but I think the Rovers needs to have a karaoke night soon so we can hear Beth belt out a tune, surprising everyone with how good she is!

Vote for Lisa as Best Newcomer in the Inside Soap Awards.

Lisa George on playing Corrie's Beth Tinker

There's a good interview today in The People with Lisa George, who plays newcomer Beth Tinker.

She says her role on Coronation Street has been a lifesaver. "It’s been really tough. At times I’ve been on the breadline. I’m so grateful to Ma and Pa and my boyfriend for supporting me. Over the years I’ve done everything to make ends meet. I worked in a fish finger factory, a pasta factory and a bike factory, threading gears in bikes and drilling handle bars. I’ve sold cigars in a posh restaurant wearing fishnets and a tutu. I’ve been a PA and sold tickets in the Albert Hall’s box office. I’ve been a holiday camp bluecoat, a backing singer and a singing teacher – you name it, I’ve done it.”

Did you know that Lisa has been in Coronation Street three times before? In 1997 she was a nursing colleague of Martin Platt and in 2005 a police family liaison officer in five episodes after the murder of Tommy Harris. Two years later she played another policewoman in an hour-long special when Ashley Peacock’s son was kidnapped. But the episode was shelved due to the disppearance of Madeleine McCann.

Lisa even wrote to Street bosses begging for a part as the sister of Cilla Battersby because she was constantly being mistaken for her!

She also sings and records with a 19-piece big band The Cat Pack. Find out more about the band here.

Anyway, I'm loving Beth but especially enjoying watching her son Craig, played by Colson Smith.  I'm still holding out hope that Craig turns out to be Steve McDonald's son. Watch this space.

Lisa George's Beth signs up for another 6 months on Corrie

Lisa George's contract to play Beth Tinker has been extended a further six months. She will continue to stitch knickers, torture Tracy Barlow and have her oh-so-blunt say until at least October. This is great news as she's quickly turned into one of my favourites!

She's appeared in Coronation Street before in short parts, as a family liason officer after Tommy Harris was killed and in 1997, a non-speaking extra as a colleague of Martin Platt. She's thrilled to bits to be part of the iconic Corrie. Recent gigs have seen her touring nursing homes around the UK as part of an entertainment act.

In this interview, Lisa says she loves playing Beth who's quite different from her. She's much braver and Lisa loves that Beth says what she thinks, even if she doesn't actually think before she speaks sometimes!

"Beth is cross, brash and bold. She is a soft touch, though, and unfortunately she doesn't think before she speaks!"

Guess who starts work at Frank's factory on Corrie next week?

Proving that the recession hasn't made the bottom drop out of the knicker market, Frank Foster's factory takes on a new machinist next week, says today's new issue of  Inside Soap magazine.

Actress Lisa George returns to Coronation Street as Beth and soon gets a new job stitching pants for freaky Frank.  She'll also be the one to spot Sally and Frank snogging at the factory, but will she spill the beans?

Actress Lisa George was last seen on Coronation Street back in August as Steve McDonald's nightmare date in the Bistro. She brought along her mad-eyed son Craig, who looks like a little gem in the making and I do hope we'll be seeing more of him with the return of Beth too.

Eagle-eyed Corrie fans might recognise Lisa's face as the character of Beth is her fourth stint on the soap as a different character.

In 2007 she played a character called Jacqui, in 2005 she played WPC Stonall/Family Liaison Officer for 5 episodes, and in 1997 she played Nurse Brampton
