See Jack P Shepherd at the Good Friday duck race

Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt in Coronation Street, will be at the Manchester Good Friday duck race. Jack's a supporter of the duck race and turns up every year for it, so good on him!

The duck race starts today at 11am.

The Good Friday duck race sees a flotilla of rubber ducks turn the River Irwell into a sea of yellow. Thousands of rubber ducks will be launched at New Bailey bridge. Money raised will go towards helping local disabled children to follow the Brainwave therapy programme.

And Manchester Artist, Jo Cushing who runs Open Studios Art centre on Oxford Road in Altrincham has put her artistic talents to work in creating a Corrie legend Bet Lynch duck.

Jack P Shepherd launches Manchester duck race

The Manchester Evening News has some fabulous pictures of the launch of this year's Manchester duck race.  It's an annual event and was launched this year by Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt.

The Good Friday tradition saw the River Irwell flooded with hundreds of yellow rubber ducks this afternoon as families watched on from the Left Bank.

Families also enjoyed film screenings at at new public space The Garden as part of the event, as well as an urban petting zoo at The Oast House, where little ones got to meet real ducks as well as pigs, sheep, goats, chickens and a pony.

There was also live music, entertainment, face-painting and dance demonstrations as well as a craft workshop from The Lowry around the area, as well as fairground rides over the bridge at New Bailey.

The event, now in its seventh year, is held to raise money for children’s charity Brainwave
