Deedee is back with another new hairstyle and a new storyline, which is a continuation of the old storyline, i.e. Deedee is having Joel's baby in order to be a donor for Frankie, whose disease I have actually forgotten. Lauren tells her that they've found a different donor, leaving Deedee confused about her feelings towards her pregnancy. She's got a distraction though - James is back with a different head* and a wildly different accent. I'm glad, as it felt as if the Baileys were diminishing as quickly as the Nazirs; maybe Michael will even get a storyline? We later see James talking to someone, telling them that he hasn't "asked her yet". Ooh, I wonder what that's all about?
* I did see James 1.0 in Patience recently so I guess he's still working.

It's Dame Maureen Lipman's birthday and she receives a pen (?) from Ty and Fiz and a sad looking cake. Well not really Dame Maureen's bday, but Evelyn's, although her new softer hair and specs kind of loses the distinction between la Lipman and la Plummer. Anyway! She says that she is concerned about Cassie's wellbeing, just as a well-coiffed drug dealer (I guess the ginnel has a nail parlour and a make up suite as Cassie is still looking groomed) turns up to the precinct to sell Cassie the Bad Drugs, interrupted by a well-meaning Roy who threatens him with the cops, so the drug dealer shoves Cassie against the wall where she hits her head. Roy tells Evelyn, who discovers her daughter stealing from a purse in no 9. They have a heart to heart and Cassie tells her that Tracy got her back on the skag. Dame Maureen steals the whole ep by making an emotional appeal to Ty and Fiz to let Cassie back into the house, to which they eventually agree.. Fortunes are reversed as Ken hears about Tracy-luv's misdoings and chucks her out of number 1.

Isn't it about time Daisy left? I like her character but it feels like her exit storyline has been and gone and yet she's still lingering. I think it would have been a better story if she had decided she was fed up of both Daniel and Kit and left to raise the baby on her own. As it is, we're just waiting for her to burn all of her bridges and skedaddle.
Anyway, Daniel suggests a memorial for the baby and she invites Kit, who is uninterested, unlike Mick who turns up on his way to the pub and causes grief. So far, he's upset Chesney, George, Jenny, Daniel and Daisy. I guess his character trajectory is to get involved with the omniscient Harvey and become the new villain - or he softens and settles into being a loveable rogue. Anyway it's good to have new blood on t'cobbles and it's been a while since there's been a problem family a la the Windasses or the Battersbys.
And finally, a traumatise Betsy is left home alone when Swain and Carla go to work.
