Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 2nd September

coronation street joel deering

Deedee really needs to get her pops to install a lock on the solicitor's door so Joel can't just pop in whenever he feels like raging at her. Better still, a door entry system. Although she herself manages to just walk into the office of Joel's former employer, Walcott's solicitors, to meet the senior partner by pretending she has a proposal to work on. Could've been an email, Deedee! The senior partner gives her short shrift, but fortunately, the gossipy receptionist brings around Joel's ex-work phone (which should've been passed onto his successor, non?) and Deedee gives it Swain to get one of her police tech buddies to look at it. Would've been better to get Max to look at it, I'd've thought.

Since Swain has been told by her boss that the case is closed and she also annoyed Kit by pulling rank, is this going to lead to Swain's sacking and Carla offering her a job on the machines? And more importantly, what is Swain and Carla's couple name going to be? Swarla? Cawain? Ah! Carlisa.

Anyway, Xtreme haircut Adam tells Deedee she needs to take some time off, especially as Joel has reported her to both the police and SRA for insider trading, which I see as a win - more time to stalk Joel. Also, I have to say that even after having discovered her fiancé is a groomer 'n' abuser, Deedee's still had time to colour co-ordinate her dress and lipstick. Not many people can look good in violet but Ms Bailey is one of them.

Deedee isn't going to find any peace until she (or rather, she, Swain and Lauren) have brought Joel down, but someone finally getting closure is Abi, who, after Jack's court case, Stefan trying to wind up all the Websters and a visit by Coral, the very upset ex-wife of Stefan, Abi realises she might not have won legally, but she has morally, with Stefan's life in tatters. Which is good because I was getting a bit bored of the House of Brent. He may know how to walk into a room, but it felt like the storyline had been going on too long. But why didn't Abi take the money offered by Coral? At the top of the show, they were saying they couldn't afford to shut the garage for both Kev and Abi to attend court with Jack (who rocks a suit by the way, he didn't get that from Burton's).

Someone definitely not finding closure is Mason who seems to be in Roy's old cell with the freephone. He rings Betsy to tell her that he will destroy her life if she doesn't fess up to the wallet theft. She is more focussed on her love-life, telling poor Dylan she just wants to be friends, which leads to some unwanted life 'n' love lessons from Sean. I know Sean destroys every relationship he's been in, but it'd be fun for him to date someone new and that person trying to parent Dylan as well.

In Bistro news, Amy's back waiting tables, but still intends to sue the Institute, despite Rowan's machinations and Leanne's "gentle" persuasion. I bet that mulleted millennial, who basically runs the place whilst everyone else is off having affairs or being ripped off by a cult, is rolling her eyes at the drama.

And finally, it's first day of school for the quads who have their pic taken chez Paul and Billy (Summer has wisely opted out). Billy wonders how many more days he will have left with Paul and I wonder if I'm going to be recapping his death episode :-(

I honestly think that Lisa swain would have better things to do than hold cosy chats with Dee dee and Carla. As a busy detective, based in a city with a high crime rate, she seems to be available at very short notice to talk. The detective's office was remarkably quiet too - no phones ringing, no - one typing up reports... as for the insider trading- all Kit seemed to do was go round and follow up a piece of gossip. There was no evidence, so why did he waste his time? In reality, he'd be rushed off his feet! I expect there'll be a plot where Lisa discovers he's a bad un' and has him kicked out of the force.
