Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 13th January

CARLA - ROB - CORONATION STREET - ITV

In amongst the news of all the departing characters (the only one I'm that bothered about is Charlotten Jordan/Daisy because I like the ongoing/endless Daniel/Daisy/Bethany menage à trois), it's nice to have a returning one, namely Rob. They must have a good barber in chokey because his hair is looking very good. He meets with Bobby and tells him he's been praying for guidance and says he will give a kidney to Carla after all. This is mostly because he wants to be tested in hospital, not the prison, so presumably he's figuring on an escape?

In the background of the prison scene, we see Matty arguing with a prison officer who is Karen Jackson/Maguire from Shameless! Wonder if she'll catch up with Kelly Maguire (Sally Carman/Abi) whilst on set. Matty's girlfriend hasn't turned up to visit him and he gets angry, grabbing first the prison officer and then Bobby, whilst Rob tries to talk him down, banging on about his very recently found religion, finally attacking Matty and saving poor Bobby from a shivving. Instead of having to give a long witness statement to the police or prison authorities, Bobby manages to get (on his own) to the hospital to report all of this to Carla, who says she doesn't want Rob's kidney. She's justified in this as we see late on in the ep that the whole hostage situation was staged. New villain alert!

ABI - CORONATION STREET - ITV

Abi is not coping since the death of Mason (which was unexpected and a bit of a shame as I was enjoying the Radcliffe redemption and I'll miss Mason and his mascara. Mind you, I also thought it was a pity Corey couldn't be redeemed but I guess you can't kill someone in Corrie and not be punished for it. Unless you're Tracy. Or Carla. Or Gary) and kicks off at Toyah in the Bistro before having auditory hallucinations about Mason's death.

Tim calls a meeting in the pub with some random people: Alya, Billy, Summer, Eileen, George and Sally to discuss crowd funding for Mason's funeral. No-one apart from Sally is that interested although Billy gets a charity to bung in a few quid and agrees to do the service. Was Mason a Christian? Seems a bit presumptuous to organise a religious ceremony for him.

More fallout from the Mason murder as Liam finds Dylan passed out after drinking voddy in the precinct and takes him back to Sean's where Dylan continues to blame himself.

bethany, daniel, coronation street

Bethany has finally got a job that doesn't involve having liposuction in Turkey but it's in London (London!?) where Daniel isn't. So, an exit storyline for Lucy Fallon's pregnancy despite the fact most journalists will be freelance and work from home/the nearest cafe?

Alya has a meeting with her solicitor-mentor regarding Matty's defence and Alya is nonplussed by his cynicism. Did Alya think lawyers were all brave warriors for truth and justice? Hasn't she ever seen Better Call Saul? I give it 5 eps before she's working at Barlow's and Co. anyway. I presume Alya's self belief means that she decided to be a lawyer so she now is a lawyer, with none of that pesky studying for 6 years malarkey.
