Top 5 marriage proposals by Coronation Street women

As it's a leap year this year and we've got an extra day on Monday February 29th, what better way to honour the tradition and have a look at some Corrie proposals that women made to their men.

These are my favourite top 5 proposals of marriage from Corrie women to their fellas.  Did I miss out your favourite? Leave a comment below!

In no particular order...

1. Fiz asks John Stape

What could be more romantic than scrawling 'marry me' onto a stained bed sheet and shouting it at your fella in prison as he's banged up for being a serial killer?

2. Michelle Connor asks Steve McDonald

Karaoke night in the Rovers Return, Michelle gets down on bended knee.

3. Phyllis Pearce asks Percy Sugden

Despite the many attractions of Phyllis Pearce, Percy would never give her the answer she longed for when she asked him to marry her.

4. Carla Connor asks Nick Tilsley

5. Deirdre Barlow asks Samir Rachid

It wasn't the the most romantic proposal. Deirdre offered to marry Samir while he was doing the washing up, wearing rubber gloves.

6. Sally asks Tim

Yes I know this is number 6 of a top 5. Whoops. But it had to go in, right?

Can you think of any more female proposals on Coronation Street?

Pic: Corrie fan proposes outside Rovers Return

There was a marriage proposal on the old Coronation Street set this week when Scott Bladen asked his girlfriend Zoe Swift to marry him. And the lady, she said 'yes'!

When Zoe accepted Scott's proposal on the Coronation Street tour, onlookers cheered the happy couple on from the cobbles. Scott and Zoe are both huge Coronation Street fans.

Scott told the Liverpool Echo: “I was really nervous, shaking and sweating. Zoe’s a massive Corrie fan, we both watch it together and we had booked to go onto the tour. I thought it would be a good idea to propose while we were there and, with the Rovers being such a central point, to do it there. Luckily it went really well, she said yes and she was over the moon. I’d booked a limo to take us back from the set to a pub in Neston, the Malt Shovel, where our family and friends were waiting, so I was really glad she said yes!”

Many congratulations to the happy couple!

I can't think of anywhere better to be proposed to than on the Coronation Street set.

Pop the question on the cobbles on Valentine's Day

If you're thinking of proposing to your partner this Valentine’s Day and you happen to be on the Coronation Street set tour when you do it, you'll received a bottle of bubbly and a box of chocolates to celebrate.

And I can personally recommend Maxine's bench as a suitable place to sit if you are going to propose, or indeed be proposed to. What a wonderful spot. It was good enough for Ken's second proposal to Deirdre too.

However, if you don't get the answer you're hoping for when you pop the question, then you will receive a tub of ice cream to help cheer you up.

Coronation Street The Tour General Manager, Andy Begg said:

“Coronation Street is a big part of millions of people’s lives and so it makes sense that they would like to carry out an important life event here by proposing to their loved ones on the old Corrie cobbles. As it’s Valentine’s Day we wanted to make it that little bit more special by gifting the newly engaged couples with champagne and chocolates."

As well as getting engaged at The Tour couples can also tie the knot inside the Rovers Return. Tour operator Continuum Attractions applied for a licence following demand from fans. They are no strangers to hosting weddings in unique venues with other attractions Spinnaker Tower and Kent Life also holding a licence.

Rita's proposals - in pics!

One of the questions in the quiz of the day last week was how many times has Rita been proposed to. Yesterday I gave you answer that she's been proposed to an astonishing 14 times! I didn't have the space to include pics of the proposals in yesterday's post so I thought they deserved a post of its own. They're all here (apart from Benny Lewis') and we have our Rita showing them all off! I know Elsie Tanner is the one who's had the most men in Corrie history, but is Rita the one who's been proposed to most often?

Clockwise from left: Len (1974), Len (1977), Alf (1985), Alan (1987), Ted (1992), Fred (1996), Alec (1998), Anthony (2001), Norris (2005), Norris (2007), Colin (2009), Dennis (2012)
