The truth is out there - Nick figures it out

Well thank heavens for that! Nick will never give Inspector Clouseau any competition, will he? Leanne went from "Oh don't be silly, nobody's out to get you"  to "You were up to something and someone we know is behind it, someone obvious" in warp speed. Nick's been worried for weeks that someone has been out to get him and never put the pieces together.  It took her determination to make all of his pennies drop at once.

What I want to know is, if Paul's little visit to the cop shop has landed him in the newspaper, is the reason for it there too? Will Paul now be branded a racist for all of Weatherfield to see? Jenna was a bit annoyed but shouldn't she have been really upset and worried about the doo-doo really hitting the fan? Where was Paul's ranting, raving and setting Sophie, who ramped up all this, in his sights?

Speaking of Sophie, has she called up the fire department and rescinded her accusation?If it was anonymous, why did they even make an issue out of it? If it wasn't,  why didn't they send anyone to talk to her in person and get a more detailed statement? They wouldn't take this lightly and they would be at least following up the initial call prior to a detailed investigation.

And why is Gary always such a knob? Babies cry. It's not that they don't like you. Don't whine and whinge about it. Doesn't Izzy get any maternity benefits while she's off? Why is she so worried about money? There's no need to go back to work part time. Just let Gary do all the work, all the night feeds, and everything else at night and all weekend. That will be his share.

Spoiler: Paul and Eileen split up

It should be no surprise to anyone that Eileen's jealousy ends up pushing Paul away. Even if we didn't already know that Tony Hirsh was leaving the show, it was inevitable. There are paparazzi photos today in the Daily Mail showing filming at a local train station, with Eileen on the outside and Paul on the train leaving.

We've just seen the beginning of this storyline this week with Eileen's face in a knot over the discovery that Paul's workmate who is organizing the Full Monty charity do is a pretty woman called Toni. She and Julie were discovered having snuck into the locker room trying to suss out this Toni and Paul was not best pleased.

In tonight's episode, Eileen confesses to Paul about her insecurities and it has the desired effect on Paul who's anger may vanish but whose doubts are still lingering. He is set to propose to Eileen but isn't sure if he can  handle her suspicions.

I'm not very surprised at this turn of events for two reasons. The first is that we have already seen evidence of Eileen's insecurities where men are concerned. She seems to have an inherent distrust that anyone could truly love her. Even when she doesn't push them away, they seem to stray and leave her. The other reason I'm not surprised is that since Paul and Eileen got together, we've seen next to nothing of their relationship. The powers that be have done nothing with them until now and that never bodes well.  I'm not surprised he's leaving but I probably won't miss him much either due to this.  A new producer is sweeping out the dead wood and he sees Paul as a non-starter. Eileen is a favourite and has more ties to the community so she gets to stay.

I liked Paul, though was not fond of he and Eileen's affair while Lesley was alive. I thought he was a nice bloke who was caught in a difficult position but would have preferred he and Eileen to keep it to a friendship until after Lesley had died but that's just my own opinion.

Fireman Paul to leave Coronation Street?

An article in today's Mirror says that Fireman Paul Kershaw (Tony Hirst) is set to leave Coronation Street when his current contract ends.

A Corrie spokesperson told the Mirror: "It’s a big year for the character of Paul, he will be at the centre of some explosive storylines which will culminate in a dramatic departure.”

This also means Eileen will be left alone again, which is a shame as she and Paul worked well together, and it was a heck of a struggle for the pair to get to where they are now.

Will Paul fall victim to the upcoming fire at the Rovers? Or will he leave in the back of a black cab?

Fireman Paul's dilemma

In the past, I have been a little hard on Paul, but after Friday's scenes, you can see the poor bloke is suffering. Paul puts all his efforts in trying to keep life how it was, living with Lesley and still doing his full time job.

To see him shouting at Lesley was a indicator that he is reaching breaking point. To me it seems that Paul can't bring himself to put Lesley in a care home, as he feels as if he was abandoning her to be with Eileen.

While putting Lesley in a home would mean more time for Eileen, I don't think it would be fair to say that it is his sole reason. Paul needs to to do it to get his life back, he also needs to let Eileen get her life back, she's spent the whole first quarter of this year caring for Lesley, and that is simply not fair on Eileen.

Disgusted with Eileen

Why, why, why do they always pair Eileen off with someone with complications, why can't she just find a nice bloke? Usually it is the people she is paired off with that I end up disliking though.

This time it is Eileen who I am finding myself annoyed with, what she is doing is not right, no matter how she dresses it up. Paul is in a very vunerable position, sure he needs a friend, but that doesn't seem enough for Eileen.

I don't really know how Eileen can look poor Lesley in the face after what she has done, Lesley, when she is herself, seems to be a lovely woman, and it's easy to see why Paul married her. Fireman Paul is obviously heartbroken at what is happening to his wife, and might feel the need to go running to another woman, but I don't think this is what Paul needs.

Paul simply needs a shoulder to cry on, and someone to support him, Eileen on the other hand needs to sort her life out, what she is  doing is morally wrong and frankly, quite disgusting, I hope she sees sense and ends it with Paul, but I somehow can't see it being that simple.
