Georgia Taylor interview: Toyah's trial in court

With the trial approaching, and people turning against her, how is Toyah feeling?

She is scared, she’s lonely, she is still grieving losing the man she loved and that chance of being a mum and being a family. I can’t even imagine on top of that having to face a murder trial, her emotions are all over the place.

Has Spider come back into her life at a time when she needed it most?

She’s definitely grateful for the distraction he brings and the kindness. She is really lonely, she's got her sister but she also understands that Leanne's got a business and a stepson and other things to be getting on with. She doesn't really have a lot of friends, people like Alya have very much turned against her and she's getting all this vitriol from Saira, Imran’s mum. It’s a bit of kindness when you're feeling vulnerable and she latches on to that.

Do you think it's quite easy for her to fall back into that old relationship with Spider? She did love Imran but because of their connection in the past do you think maybe that helps her blank out what's happened?

Yeah, I think what also helps is that the Spider wasn't around for the past few years, he wasn't around for the drama of the past few months so she doesn't really feel that he's judging her in the way that a lot of people who've been more closely involved might be.

In terms of the whole Imran situation, he's coming at it with a clean slate, and he's just saying, look, you're still the woman that you were all those years ago. You're still a good person. He’s seeing the best in her, being very kind to her and I think it helps that he's someone that's away from the situation.

Toyah’s emotions are still very raw after losing Imran, how does she feel when she discovers the savings account he’d set up for Alfie?

It brings everything flooding back, whatever she is guilty off or not guilty off, Alfie has been left without a dad and she’s been left without the man and the family unit she dreamed of for so long. It’s still very raw.

After Spider is arrested at a protest they kiss and she leads him to the bedroom. Do you think Toyah’s feelings are genuine or do you think she’s on the rebound?

Personally I feel it’s too soon, I’d like to see that friendship between them nurtured and developed because I think as a friendship, it's really sweet. But in the moment she’s not thinking straight, she’s lonely and he’s there for her.

How does she feel afterwards?

I think it’s just too much for her to deal with at the moment, her emotions are all over the place, there’s guilt, possibly some regret but on the other hand she’s lonely and seeking some comfort.

Do you think going forward a relationship with Spider is possible or do you think she hasn't really grieved properly for Imran yet?

I think it is quite soon to be jumping into something else but it’s complicated, love always is, isn't it? I think what's good about Spider is that he’s gentle and sensitive. He’s not going to push things with her and if she needs him to back off he will and that's really important. She loved Imran and you can't just flip that switch.

Do you think Toyah is guilty of murder?

I think it’s a very grey area and her guilt is huge, whether she is guilty of murder or not, she was at the wheel of that car. So she feels responsible for his death and the fact that Alfie is going to spend the rest of his life growing up without his dad. It's heart breaking, it's a huge, huge burden for her to carry.

Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 1st August

DEBBIE - RYAN - ITV - CORONATION STREET

It's the night of the Casino heist. Ryan is part of this daft plan in order to raise £5K to buy into a bar in Ibiza (Ryan should probably read up on Brits living abroad, post-Brexit). Debbie outlines her plan to him, describing it as the "perfect victimless crime". You know you're in a soap don't you, Debs? She changes her mind pretty quickly after a pep talk with Kevin and tells Ryan it's off, but after his pep talk from Alya  (without her knowing the deets), Ryan decides it's back on. He fuses the lights and Debbie orders everyone out whilst Ryan thieves the money. It's hardly the perfect crime given that Ryan's DNA is going to be all over that office. Leanne stomps back and discovers that she can just turn the lights back on, so Ryan has to pretend he's just arrived. Everyone goes back to the Bistro, just before Leanne finds out that all the cash is missing and they call the cops. I wonder how long before Leanne works it out? She has form with fraud, after all.

Aaron wants Summer to go to counselling to get over her body dysmorphia. I do wonder if this is all an excuse for Aaron not to go on holiday - if he is being abused at home then would his abuser allow him to go off to Barcelona Edinburgh Barcelona? Not the usual abuser behaviour.

I think we're all a bit bored of Summer now aren't we? Roll on Autumn.

TIM - SALLY - ITV - CORONATION STREET

Sally and Faye do menopause chat with Sal once again suggesting HRT, which Faye rejects. It's not just about mood swings and hot flushes, Faye, you're at risk of osteoarthritis and heart disease without any of that lovely oestrogen. Meanwhile, Tim has made a rookie mistake and not cleared his search history and Sally discovers the adult sites, which Tim has been using to "test his equipment". Sally unsurprisingly takes umbrage.

KEN - WENDY - ITV - CORONATION STREET

With Abi's encouragement, Ken and Wendy Flamin' Crozier reconnect over a cup of tea and a frozen veggie lasagne - Ken knows how to woo a pensioner, doesn't he. It'll be bingo and 2-4-1 deals at the local Brewers Fayre next week.

And finally, Sean tries to cook roast pork for Dylan, who's more interested in pizza, so he serves it up overcooked to Eileen, Todd and George, who ends up breaking a tooth. I'm assuming this was the comedy storyline??

Preview of tonight's Coronation Street - Monday 1st August 2022

Monday 1st August 2022

DEBBIE ROLLS THE DICE ON RYAN In the bistro, Debbie instructs Ryan to stage a break-in and then she can make a claim on the insurance. But later when Debbie tells Ryan the robbery is off, Ryan’s furious. With ‘Casino Night’ underway, Ryan tells Debbie that he’s going to fuse the electrics and grab the cash from the safe. Suddenly the bistro is plunged into darkness. Debbie reluctantly helps with Ryan’s plan. As the Bistro customers file into the Rovers, Ryan stuffs the cash in his gym bag but Leanne arrives. Ryan hides while Leanne flicks the switch and the lights come back on. Ryan, clutching his bag of stolen cash, comes out from his hiding place and makes out he’s just arrived. Leanne heads back to the Rovers to tell the customers that ‘Casino Night’ is back on. Ryan assures Debbie that the cash is stashed in his bedroom. Later, Leanne is horrified to discover all the money gone.  Debbie orders Ryan to call the police.

TIM’S WINNING STREAK IS SHORT LIVED At No.4, Sally discovers Tim has been looking at porn sites. Sally orders Tim to go to the ‘Casino Night’ on his own. When he returns home, he finds a note from Sally telling him that she’s made up the spare bed for him.

KEN OFFERS WENDY A SECOND CHANCE Ken approaches Wendy and invites her for a coffee. At No.1, Ken invites Wendy to share his lasagne and tells her he knows what it’s like to be lonely as he still misses Deirdre.

ELSEWHERE Sally suggests Faye should consider HRT, but she’s not keen. Aaron calls at the flower shop flat and tells Summer that he’d still like to go on holiday but on condition she gets some counselling and deals with her body image issues. Sean attempts to cook a roast to impress Dylan but when he receives a text from Dylan telling him that he’s gone for a pizza with his mates, Sean serves up the overcooked pork to Eileen, George and Todd. George takes a bite and is alarmed to realise he’s broken a tooth.
