Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 28 August 2026

It seems we are back to reporting on Thursday evening events but broadcast on Friday.  Christina is awaiting George's return but the latter does not return home, preferring to catch Todd first thing in the Undertakers where words are exchanged.  Todd asserts that getting drunk all the time does deal with 99.9% of all misery.  Anyway home truths are fired in both directions.   Todd comes across Bernie and tells her that Celeste is close to end game but Bernie is not interested and she later explains to Dev that it started over her Grandfather's will as Bernie's mum was taken out of it in a snidey way at the last minute.  It got worse in that Celeste then turned the entire family against her mother alleging that she rather than Celeste had attempted to get the father's money.  Bernie knows it was Celeste what dunnit.  [Such scenarios happen - there was something similar in tone within my own family].  Bernie knows Celeste is evil and manipulative and she spilt poison to everyone.  She broke Bernie's mum and that drove her away from her mother.  She will not be fooled by Celeste again.  {Boys and girls I invite you to guess where this is going.}

Jake has become aware that Ollie is going to prison and decides that he needs to put the record straight.  He has never been taught manners or how to help old people and this complete lack of respect is damaging when they prefer to film it and throw water on Christina - as he admits - rather than doing the right thing.  The police are told and matters are straightened out with some apologies.  I deplore the Street for this - the kid could have been shown to be good and caring and set standards, not to encourage wrong-doing.  How many stroppy kids do we need in this programme ever?  Jake later apologises to Ollie in the Rovers in front of an audience which I suppose is something.  

Talking of stroppy kids Kit has to chase Kacey's son (the one with a slight legal problem) from one end of the shopping precinct to the other end of the ginnel.  He is completely out of breath after a brief trot.  Methinks the lad is not as fit as he likes to think he is, or is another one of Bernie's family unwell?

Maggie does the decent thing and gives Brian a heartfelt apology.  She admits she was embarrassed.  He accepts the apology and they agree to be friends.  

George and Christina manage a conversation which largely seemed to be about someone called Barry and make up with Christina undertaking the usual soapy promise never to lie to George again.  They go to Chariot Square where they encounter Todd and Celeste.  We get round 2 of the Todd and George confrontation and frankly neither of them emerges with anything positive to their reputations.  

I still struggle with the concept (as when Roy was incarcerated) that Sarah seems to have ready access to a telephone to make calls.  I hope that I will never be detailed at His Majesty's Pleasure but is there anyone who actually knows if such easy access does exist?  I understand she is on remand (as was Roy) but I thought phone access was still heavily restricted.  Anyway Sarah tells Bethany to keep Harry safe and Kacey continues to threaten unless Kit works wonders.  Kit attempts to work wonders but the scrote gets away.  Luckily Sarah has used her brains and a search of Kacey's cell throws up a weapon and a mobile phone (which given the easy access to phones she does not need ... yes I am confused).  Kacey was already on a warning so is transferred to another wing.  Kit seems less than impressed that Sarah has solved her problem without him losing his badge and instead shouts at poor Bethany.  Kit is not himself at all.  He tells Bethany that her entire family can do one, despite having told Bernie earlier how worried he was for Bethany and Harry.

Next week I will be somewhere near Sorrento so cannot be here.  There is an extra episode on Sunday to catch up again.  Given she did it will the new prison smart Sarah actually be spending time away from the Street more permanently?  I think Todd will come to her rescue and self defence will be accepted with time served taken into account.  At least there was no stroppy Lucy.  I feel sorry for Tim and Sally - those three are going to be a handful.  See you in a couple of weeks.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 14 August 2026

I have no idea if I am coming or going given recent scheduling changes.  Speaking personally I think ITV made a fundamental error.  The soap power hour should start at 7pm and if there is something on then it should start at 6:30 with the "sport" / "event" starting at 7:30.  We were told it would be consistent - and consistently it is not.  Before I start on tonight a word in the ear of management - new stroppy teenagers are an instant turn off (two in one episode) as is an obvious con artist at work in prison.  Where is the summer road trip to the caves or a stately home or evidence of community?  Poor Cassie despatched to hoof her away around the country and only Fiz cares.  And please can we have more of "I Don't Spy" - the game Steve and Lloyd used to play on quiet days of all the things which they could not see - wildebeeste roaming the veldt; the Colossus of Rhodes; the Hanging Gardens of Babylon; the missing episodes of Dr Who and much much more.  This is the Street we want.

Stroppy teenager 1 - well almost - Harry is only 10 but looks older (Joshua James Leavy is actually 12 and is already on his second Street stint) and is talked down from his antics by Sarah-Lou from prison.  She tells him to be good for Kit (why should he given the two of them have "split up"?).   Sarah explains to Kacey that she and Kit have split and yet Kacey seems to know just who Kit is and also scares the bejasus out of Bethany when she pops by to visit in the afternoon - sitting in the visiting area without a visitor would scare me too.  Sarah believes Kacey is alright after she dealt with Kirsten who had told Sarah never to go to the canteen again.  Sarah - favours have to be repaid in prison, it is a soapy trope.  

Stroppy teenager 2 - Lucy Parkinson (who is 15) [played by Anya Dewin (18 or 19)],  commences the programme with a "blood curdling" scream according to the sub titles.  She then dominates the rest of the programme, stomping upstairs and slamming doors, storming out of the house, completely blanking Lily Platt who was trying to talk to her, then chasing her and fighting only for Jodie to break it up.  Somehow Lucy manages to inflict grievous wounds on Jodie which look like she used a garden rake.  I am not surprised her mother was at the end of her tether with a missing husband and a child like this.  Lucy has a story for Tim and Sally - her mother was mad and waving a knife around and she would have killed him had he not picked up a doorstop and used it to defend himself - he has done nothing wrong and she claims she has told the police this story repeatedly.  {Across in Emmerdale Charity is taking the rap for Sarah's accidental killing of Dr Todd.  Odd how similar stories turn up in different soaps at the same time.}  

Brian arranges a meeting of local traders and after reminiscences about WARTS (Weatherfield Association of Retail Traders and their legendary Christmas Dos) Idris who is waiter of the day at Speed Dahl treats them to a free mixed platter of starters.  Kirk is pretending to be Carla who was elswhere, Rita was allowed a few words and no-one is quite sure what they plan to achieve.  Hopefully it will be fun and entertaining for the viewers.  Leanne points out that free starters means no desserts but Idris is still hoping to buy Alya's share.  Brian wants it to be a muscular, nimble body and Tracy is always looking for one of those before she has a pop at Dev for flogging cheap flowers under her nose.  Idris wins - future quarterly meetings will be held at Speed Dahl after praise for the rice pudding.  Idris then attempts to try his luck with Alya by offering £35k for her half share which is worth £50k.  She will think about it.  

Tim lies to Lucy about him and Sally having given Richie his marching orders and sending him back to his wife which led to her subsequent death and denying that they knew Richie was at odds with Lucy's mother.  Meanwhile I think the girls are due back from Spain any minute now so the house will be pretty full.

In other news between the tram stop and Sainsburys is a "Weatherfield Pop Up" store which was new to me and apologies if you already knew about it, neither shop sent anyone to the traders' meeting.    My apologies for the poor screen grabs this week.  Somehow the technology is not behaving - I can only blame the weather., the PC, the idiot user, the continuing inability of ITVX to provide a competent service and gremlins in the machine.  I will revert to old technology next week (if of course there is anything worth reporting).

Episode Review Friday 1 May 2026

Good evening.  I remind you that it is still Thursday of last week and Carla's wedding day which has now had 7 outings.  We open with Todd running away from Theo who cannot be bothered to chase him as he knows where he is at all times thanks to the watch which Todd wears.  Theo only wants to talk to him.  Todd manages to disappear down the ginnel under the flats at the precinct, removes the watch and lobs it into the children's playground where Theo eventually finds it.  Todd phones George from a call box (there is one?) on Inkerman Street and Christine collects him and thereafter he is safe at number 11.  However George assures Todd that Theo will never hurt him again and Christina notices that George's red top is NOT the same top that he was wearing earlier and he is decidedly shifty when she asks him about it.

Shona has come back to the Street as she forgot her phone which she cannot find and then she heads to the hospital to see Harper.  

Elsewhere Maggie has Megan by the throat at the top of the stairs up to the flats and at the bottom of the stairs is Will who gets to hear that Megan had an abortion of his / Daniel's child - Will has still not given the game away.  Megan and Maggie stop fighting and Will argues with his grandmother.  He is pretty vile to Maggie in the precinct.  

Jodie's surprise visitor was not the strange men - but was Lily who wants an explanation as to why Jodie is going - but she gets very little other than a promise that she will come back one day.  Jodie lets herself back into Number 8 as she goes looking for cash and her treasures which she needs to take with her.  Once she finds some cash she also sets about trashing the place, cutting her hand on some glass and leaving blood around the place.  Jodie is about to go when Sarah comes in as she had heard David the dog yapping.  Jodie applies blunt force to Sarah's head.  Why does nobody turn the lights on?  For some reason Shona returns to find her phone followed  by David and an ambulance is summoned and they go to hospital where David just about deletes a voicemail message from Jodie about their earlier encounter and how she knocked him back.  Shona guesses that the men who were looking for Jodie earlier must have returned and Sarah walked in on them.

Summer has let herself into Theo's flat above the Dev's shop which has the scaffolding outside.  She finds Todd's phone which he had left behind when Theo enters the flat as well and throws the phone out of the window.  She asks if Theo has done something to Todd but does not get an answer.  Theo then says that Summer had to end sometime.  

Ronnie has that Carl in the back of his car and gets a voice message from Debbie asking him to tell her when she gets right doolally about the good which Carl did (might not take long) and that he was always the apple of her eye.  This makes Ronnie change his mind and we gather that Carl is dumped outside the Emergency Department and Ronnie is later seen cleaning the car of all potential evidence.  However Carl is then in a bad way and his life is hanging in the balance as they start chest compressions.  

The three witches Sisters, Eva, Toyah and Leanne are all invited to assist the police with their enquiries into the abduction and incarceration of Megan but at the time Toyah finally arrives it seems that Kit has heard some other news on the grape vine and will not be pursuing them - although we are not told what he now knows.  Sam is in hiding and having a meltdown.  

Once back at the Rovers Eva cannot find Maggie but two women find her lying in Victoria Gardens and it is time to summon another ambulance.  She does not look at all well.

Betsy was not carrying any ID so could not get in anywhere in town and stumbles out of the tram station with Lauren following.  Somehow later they manage to get to be outside Dev's shop (as Lauren had helped herself to the last wine at the wedding reception) at which point Lauren decides she needs to relieve herself and goes into the ginnel and Betsy stumbles into the yard at the back of the shop.  She eventually screams. It looks like Theo has been ended.

There was a lot in the episode - Betsy remarked that heels and cobbles are incompatible.  Lily is having something going on which was not clear to me with phone calls being made.  Sam is in meltdown and on his own.  David the dog was particularly yappy at the comings and goings.  I think the three "sisters" were released because Will finally told all to the police, but I might be wrong.  No doubt the answers to many of the questions raised in tonight's episode will be answered in the coming months.  For holiday reasons I am not going to be here for the next three Fridays - have a lot of fun in my absence.
