Spot the Corrie prop - July 31st 2020

Congratulations this week go to Annie who was the only person to guess that last week's windowsill ornaments can be found in Daniel's flat. Well done!

More windowsill action this week as we wonder whereabouts on Coronation Street you would find this candle holder.

Coronation Street returning to 6 episodes per week

Coronation Street is returning to six episodes per week in September. ITV have confirmed in a statement below.

I don't know about you but I've been really, really enjoying Coronation Street a heck of a lot more with only three episodes each week. It frees up my evenings, after 8pm I can watch something else, I'm not waiting around for Corrie to start again. It also means that the cliffhangers are proper ones, we have to wait sometimes from Friday to Monday to find out what's going to happen, instead of thirty minutes in the same night.

Are you looking forward to more Corrie and going back to six episodes or would you be happy to stay at three? (not that we've got any choice, of course!).

Preview of tonight's Coronation Street - Fri 31 July

Friday July 31st

SARAH’S STORY DOESN’T ADD UP Gary is out cold on the cobbles, Sarah pleads with him to wake up.  Having witnessed the whole incident, Tyrone phones for an ambulance. Adam and a panicky Maria arrive at the hospital.  Sarah describes how she was on her phone, stepped out in front of a van and Gary saved her life. When Tyrone describes how he saw Sarah running and Gary chasing after her before the accident Sarah makes out that it was pure coincidence that Gary happened to be there.  Adam senses she’s lying but keeps his counsel and tells the police she is too shaken to give a statement.
TIM IS STILL TEAM GEOFF Geoff assures Tim that everything the woman is saying is lies. Tim believes Geoff and assures him that if he sees her again, he’ll report her to the police.  Geoff quietly breathes a sigh of relief. Tim tells Sally about the visit from the woman. Sally wonders if Geoff’s the one telling lies. Alya and Elaine meet up secretly in Speed Daal.  Alya implores her not to leave as she’s their only hope of securing Yasmeen’s freedom.  Elaine’s torn.
THE BAILEYS Ed’s miserable about being unable to celebrate his anniversary. with Aggie now she’s stuck in a hotel, isolating.  James and Michael try to lift his spirits. Dressed in his best clothes, Ed sits down to a virtual anniversary dinner with Aggie via video call.  Touched by his efforts, Aggie raises a glass to their next thirty years.

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 29th July 7.30 pm

Regular readers of this weekly Weatherfield write up will be familiar with my storyline predictions. Sometimes it's just for a laugh, sometimes quite serious, but they are Always! spectacularly wrong. So, it's with a humble brag that I predicted last week ( and with zero spoiler knowledge) that Elaine is Tim's Mum! Hurray for me, it's rare so let me revel in it! Less revelling in it, however, is Elaine’s rather reluctant but soft promise to Alya that she’ll testify against Geoff. I was almost convinced until she introduced herself to her son, Tim, and of course, being his Dad’s defender, it was never going to go well, was it?

Is Geoff going to get away with it, after all?

Corrie's corona-based cacophony of drama has also had me wondering. Do you think they shifted any plots or storylines around? I think they've done well, and conveniently Aggie and Ed’s wedding anniversary has fallen just as the nurse is preoccupied with this perilous pandemic. Her sudden change in the occupation is a gift to the writers in this art mirroring real-life story arc.

As the expression goes 'time waits for no man' and it looks like villainous gangster Gary is vastly running out of it. Using an engraved timepiece to move this Rick murder plot forward, has certainly been an enjoyable watch. Will this lead to Gary doing time? Hotly on his case, Supersleuth Sarah has suddenly realised his murderous act. With suggestive tension still simmering between Adam and Laura, and with Rick's watch racking up old feelings between Gary and Sarah, could all this turn into a double passionate affair?

I also think we are going to get a body dug up but probably not for some time. I'm going to say Christmas for that. Let's see if I can throw another humble brag in around December time! But before that, our villain just has time to play the hero in some sort of plot paradox.

A corrie corona hit and run, or a hit and miss? Being a big fan of Gary, it's a hit from me!

Preview of tonight's Coronation Street - Weds 29 July

Wednesday July 29th

ED’S PARTY PLANS ARE PUT ON HOLD  It’s the Baileys’ thirtieth wedding anniversary and Ed’s disappointed to miss out on breakfast with Aggie who’s set off early for work.  Michael warns Ed that a surprise online party might not be such a good idea, but Ed won’t be deterred. At No.3, Jenny prepares the buffet whilst Ed blows up balloons for the virtual party.  But Aggie phones from the hospital to explain that, due to a colleague displaying Covid symptoms, she has to isolate at a hotel for a while.  Ed’s gutted.
WILL SARAH DISCOVER THE TRUTH  Gary bungs Bernie a wad of cash and makes out he wants the watch back for his Dad’s birthday, begs her to do her best to buy it back from Sarah. Bernie does her best to cajole Sarah into selling the watch and offers her double what she paid for it.  Sarah refuses when she realises it is Gary who wants it and she goes over to speak to him demanding to know if he killed Rick. How will Gary react? Sarah dials 999 and runs away into the path of a car.  Gary pushes her out of the way and is hit by the car.
ALYA IS DELIGHTED WITH HER NEW WITNESS Elaine calls Alya and confirms that she’s prepared to give evidence against Geoff and do everything she can to help Yasmeen.  Alya’s overcome with gratitude.
