This was the week when I had to watch Coronation Street peeking out from behind a cushion. It was horrible. Absolutely, gloriously horrible and I loved every minute. It’s all to do with Geoff ramping up his campaign against Yasmeen now he thinks Alya is on to him since she started work at Speed Daal. Geoff comes home upset with the food that Yasmeen has cooked for him and he chucks it in the bin. He sends Yasmeen upstairs like a naughty child and tells her not to come down until he cooks dinner, properly this time. And poor Yasmeen comes down to a right tasty treat – it’s her chicken Charlotte Bronte who’s dish of the day. But there’s life in the old bird yet. Well, not Charlotte, she’s been cooked and roasted. But Yasmeen will live on to get her revenge, I’m sure. This was such a powerful, funny, horrible scene all rolled into one. Well done, Corrie. Watch out, Geoff. I've written more on this scene here.
Over at No. 1 the For Sale sign goes up as Ken prepares to move away from the Street. Tracy wants to buy the house, as does Peter, but neither of them can afford it and Carla isn’t keen to live there even if Peter is. Tracy and Peter bicker and fight and there’s a lovely scene when Ken’s cleaning out the loft and brings down one of Tracy’s old tapes. But who will pay the price to live at No. 1? Adam suggests seal bids from Tracy and Peter but Carla accidentally-on-purpose leaves her and Peter’s sealed bid, er, unsealed in the florist shop and Tracy looks at it. It’s more than the asking price and more than she and Steve can afford, but she nags Steve into bidding more than Peter and Carla anyway. It was all a ruse by Peter to get Tracy to pay over the odds for No. 1 and Steve tells Tracy they can’t afford it. Will Tracy get her own way? Will Peter admit what he did? Will Ken ever leave the Street? And where the ‘eck is Eccles?
Kev has much on his mind this week after giving Abi her alibi that clears her of torching evil Ray’s car. Ray shows Abi dashcam footage from his mate’s car that shows her at the scene of the crime. He’s got her where he wants her and he wants her in a seedy hotel bedroom in her frillies. Abi feels she has no choice but to do what Ray asks, and accepts she’s going to have to sleep with him in order for Ray to remain quiet. But when she gets to the hotel, Ray tells her to go, once he’s taken a photo of her there, he wants nothing to do with her. He was just curious to see how far she’d go to protect Kevin from the cops. Now that Ray knows the truth, he tells Kev that he’ll keep quiet about Abi torching his car if Kevin sells him the garage. Kev has no choice. He loves Abi, she loves him. He signs over the building and the arch, but not the business, to Ray. It’s Pat Phelan, Kevin and Anna all over again and Ray is a proper Corrie villain of the very best kind. More, please.
Bethany gets offered an internship in London at a magazine and Sarah urges her to take it. However, Bethany wants to stay with Daniel, believing he loves her, when his head is all over the place after Sinead’s death. Even Daniel thinks he loves Bethany too, but each time he casts a glance at Sinead’s photo on the mantlepiece, we the viewer know the truth. Anyway, to cut a long and rather boring story short, Daniel tells everyone he loves Bethany and he’s moving to London to be with her, and he’s taking Bertie too. Beth, as you can imagine, is not best pleased.
Elsewhere this week, Gemma and the quads attend baby yoga at Speed Daal another baby class at the community centre and Gemma does her best, bless her. She really is trying hard and my heart goes out to her. There’s a couple of yummy mummies at the baby classes and they come over quite friendly to Gemma and help her with the quads and reassure her she’s doing great (she is). But then they start sniggering at her when Gemma splits her jeans in yoga, and their smiles turns into snarls. Poor Gemma, watch out, these two are out for the kill.
And finally this week, Adam’s stag do was held in Speed Daal where Ryan was on the wheels of steal, the ones and twos, the … I have no idea what I’m talking about. Sarah’s hen party was held in the Rovers. Mary waxed lyrical about brides and weddings, the hens wore deelyboppers, Sarah got drunk and sadly there was far too little of Audrey and Gail on karaoke.
And that’s just about that for this week.
