Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 27th November
Apologies for no Monday reviews the last few weeks, I was on me holidays and then catching up. Without any more ado....
Aggie isn't going to be back for Xmas and Ed promises he'll do the Christmas dinner, including sprouts, to Michael's chagrin. What's not to like about sprouts? You don't have to boil them for 20 minutes, instead sherd and stir fry with ginger, garlic, soya sauce. Yum. Anyway, Ed's got other things on his mind, as he has to pay the old lag Tony and he also has to part-pay a slap up lunch for his dad (Porkpie from Desmond's) who's arrived from Peckham the Caribbean with the sole purpose of having a go at Ed, or so it seems. He takes out a payday loan and puts it on a horse - which loses. Whilst his family praise him over lunch for beating the gambling habit, he is in turmoil, finally going to a Gamblers Anonymous meeting at the end of the episode. Now I don't know much about gambling but I thought gamblers gambled for the thrill of it? Ed is gambling to make money to pay his labourer because Paul's grant hasn't come through and the Rovers deal fell through. A difference, perhaps? Also I'd like to suggest that the white writers stop putting dominoes into every scene featuring black actors?
"This is going to be the best fake Christmas ever", says Gemma as they plan Bernie's pre-prison festivities Don't say that Gemma, now we know that Joseph will be carted off to hospital or Paul will suffer a fatal seizure. Old Man Ches is worried about the cost and also worried about Gemma as Joseph is sent home from school ill after Gemma told him he had to go. He tells her she's not coping. Tell you what, Ches, why don't you look after your kids and Gemma can go fry chips instead? Then maybe she wouldn't need the "happy pills".
Someone else not facing up to their problems is Simon as he sits drinking at the bar, for all the world a mini-Peter in a matching leather jacket, and sulking about the stolen vapes. He points out that he's 20, not 12, when Leanne tries to intervene but he's certainly acting like a grumpy adolescent. Peter tries to give him a pep talk.
Meanwhile, Mason and his droogs are still bulling Liam, sending him mean messages (why doesn't Liam just block Mason's number?), taking his bag and throwing it on a van roof, taunting him about his dead dad and sending him the vid of the bag incident. Liam returns to the rose-gold flat with a torn bag and torn trousers.
By the way, Mrs Crawshaw's hot new haircut! Way to deal with the divorce, Crawshy!
