Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 2 October 2026

Good evening.  Doug (Steve Evets, best known probably for his long term role in Brassic) provided a class performance this evening.  We know that Jodie has swapped his drugs out so that he cannot remember that Jodie and David are having an affair (according to Jodie).  He therefore commenced behaving strangely this evening as a man losing his marbles, not helped by Jodie playing noises from her phone which she allegedly cannot hear but he can..  I find some of the Steet villainous behaviour hard to fathom these days.  I think we are supposed to believe that Jodie wants what Shona has; because Jodie cannot have a friend she has no-one to whom she can talk and explain what is going on in her mind and of course maltreating her own father is probably payback as far as she is concerned.  She congratulates her father on him getting his life together and remembering to take his tablets.  Shona has a message from the school and it seems that vapes are being used.  Aunty Jodie is so much nicer to Lily, the latter tells Shona.

Sally and Lucy visit Christina to sort things for Lucy's mother funeral and they go through various photograph albums.  An earlier discussion with a former neighbour implies that Richie was a controlling so and so, supporting the narrative around the murder.  Christina takes one of the photos on Rachel's graduation but it is spotted as missing and Sally returns to the undertakers where Christina admits that Rachel was her daughter.  Sally tells Christina that she can have nothing to do with Lucy.  I am not sure that secrets can be kept on Coronation Street.

Nick is now in serious financial do-do.  He cannot pay wholesalers and they will not extend credit.  Sam is seeing the mental health team later in the day.  Eva is not going to report the push.  They cannot ask the bank for help as they will want to report the identity fraud.  The psychiatrist thinks the events could be down to the meds and they will look to find an alternative.  Sam admits he is a coward and a thief but no-one wants to punish him.  Leanne suggests a family outing on Sunday so Eva has to come up with a load of excuses (and then later has to come up with an action plan to support them all to avoid the outing).  Eva simply does not want her family anywhere near Sam at the moment.

Sally makes it crystal clear that Christina cannot further disrupt Lucy's life as they have only just managed to stabilise her.

So in one episode we have: a) Doug being mentally unstable because Jodie has switched his drugs; b) Sam being mentally unstable because he is on the wrong drugs and c) Lucy being mentally unstable because - well apparently her father was excessively controlling.  Now I am not an expert but if a popular tv programme cannot entertain us without going on about mental instability and drugs it seems likely that life will imitate art and mental instability in the community will go off the scale.  Can someone please look at the content holistically and decide on something which is uplifting and does not involve mental stability or am I simply reading far too much into events?

I cannot be here for the next three weeks as I shall be out of the country.  Perhaps by the time I return the direction will have changed.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 25 September 2026

Welcome.  We open at Chariot Square Happy Hour where Izzy, Sean, Michael and Carla are enjoying a few drinks.  Glenda comes in looking for Debbie who is missing again.  Carla, Izzy and Michael leave and Sean queries Glenda about being ill.  She explains she is sick of Eva.  Eva meanwhile is lying at the foot of the cellar stairs where she was despatched by Sam.  Sam goes upstairs and eventually finds his phone (and why is he phone addicted?) and then in one of those absolutely stupid twists, does not phone anyone and does a runner.  He returns to the scene of his earlier crime where Nick and Toyah are completely understanding about him trashing the Bistro office.  However the viewers can now spend the entire episode worrying about Eva who had it easy - no acting - just sleeping on the cellar floor.  Every so often we get a shot of the prone Eva taking another breath.

I suspect I am unsympathetic b****** (with due apologies for the language) but I am having trouble believing in Christina's grief.  Not a hint of a hidden daughter for what 35 years? and now hardly able to function.  A shock maybe - but all consuming?  Anyway Christina is contemplating life, the universe and the answer to life (42) in Victoria Gardens when she is found by Bernie.  Bernie is far more sympathetic - but then she has lost one child, her lost, now found child, is seriously ill and so perhaps she understands.

Tim and Sally have completely lost Lucy, thinking she is minding Shanice upstairs, whom Ronnie finds considerably the worse for wear in Victoria Gardens.  Lucy claims not to be a kid and being really bored.  Tim discovers she half inched the vodka from the kitchen cupboard.  Sally sends Lucy to bed with a bowl in case of nasty accidents.  Tim is not surprised that Lucy is acting up.  They do not know what to do for the best.

Debbie has been sent to the closed Rovers by Sam looking for Carl (her phone has died yet again) and she wanders around (although closed the front door is unlocked).  She sees Eva and leaves the Rovers but by the time she meets Carla, Izzy, Michael and Sean (continuity error as Sean did not leave with the others) outside Audreys she cannot remember visiting the cellar and as she is distressed Carla takes Debbie back to her flat above the cab office.  Debbie looks as though she does not recognise it and later asks Carl if Carla is his girlfriend as she had not recognised her.  Ronnie and Carl argue over the latter's flakiness - Ronnie wants him out.

Eventually Glenda returns to the Rovers and finds signs of an intruder from Sam's earlier frantic searching, Glenda hears groaning from the cellar and then summons the emergency services.  It may well be important that she seems to have bashed her abdomen.  Her blood pressure is low and she manages one word "Pushed".

This episode was "odd" as it was clearly set on the same day as Thursday and I wonder if the plan was originally to show them together for some reason.  Once again the chapeau must be tipped to the wonderful Sue Devaney who is seen in one shot almost shuffling along as a "little old lady" rather than the dynamic business woman.  Once again another slip down the ladder mentally and I suspect she will be accused of Eva's incident.  However it would be nice for some light and shade - do all the stories need to depress us?  Is no-one on the Street doing anything positive and uplifting?  For those worried about him, Theo Silverton has returned to Ambridge, ended his marriage to Fallon, taken up (within days) with the posh and apparently very attractive daughter of the lady of the manor who finds him equally attractive (thanks to a Tango lesson) and has nicked (he is a policeman) a Doberman for savaging sheep.

I may or may not be here next week - it will depend on events as on the Saturday I am catching a plane to India and will not be around for three weeks.  I hope to be back for the 26 October episode all being well.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 11 September 2026

Apologies the technical gremlins are back so a quick update.  For some reason of which I am unaware Ken believes that Jodie who is busy litter picking may be a little unstable.  Jodie assures Bethany that they are OK after yesterday, but then little does Bethany know what Jodie knows that Bethany (for some unknown reason) slept with Kit.  As you may have guessed I do not believe this storyline.  Sandra (from baby yoga) calls Jodie "Shona" in Roy's Rolls repeating the misnaming in front of Jodie's father, Doug, who has parked his camper van on the Street.  Doug and Jodie return to Plattsville when David, Shona and Harper also return as David had forgotten to pack the white noise machine.  Doug is hiding in the kitchen but is soon discovered and demands a private chat with Shona.  Doug claims he is on his meds and Beryl (his bipolar) is under control - he named it after Shona's gran.  He wants to say sorry and make a fresh start.  He might not remember much from his ward stay - but he knows Shona visited.  However Shona is not in forgiving mode.

Lucy (the new resident with Sally) encourages little Shanice to go to the shop even though Shanice knows it is against house rules.  After some time Sally misses Shanice and Lucy refuses to answer any questions and when she tries to go upstairs Sally holds her wrist.  the knocking is Brian returning the missing Shanice with Lucy smiling to herself in the background and signalling Shanice to keep it zipped.  Lucy then turns it into a drama and she has the bruises to prove it showing Tim later how brutal Sally is..  Tim does not realise they have bitten off far more than they can chew with this one.

Ryan talks Bethany into doing a house call on Betsy as Carla and Lisa are in that London for the day.  Kit notices that Ryan might have an interest in Bethany and encourages her to think about it to get over their guilt, Bethany is not going there she says.  Ryan assists Betsy to apply to the local college which Sally had found and it looks like she can do the honours course.  Bethany arrives and Ryan leaves them to a nail session.  Bethany has not yet come to terms with her decision to have the surgery.  She admits she made a lot of wrong decisions (and is still doing it).  She admits she does not learn from her mistakes.  Ryan returns just before the break and Betsy has a turn and she thinks she is having another stroke.  Bethany finds Kit outside and he offers to drive Betsy to the hospital.  It was a bad migraine, Betsy has had a scan and it is not a stroke and she needs to rest.  She apologises for over-reacting.

Shona shows Doug an album of happy family photos (really? an album).  He is not present in the album.  He tells her there is no justification for his actions.  Doug admits he failed her and Clayton.  Doug is about to tell Shona about Jodie impersonating her but before he can Jodie bursts into the room as Harper was getting cold.  Jodie throws her support behind Doug and later she tells him not to rock the boat.  Doug is off for now but hopes to visit again tomorrow.  Once left alone downstairs Jodie scribbles on a picture of Shona's wedding day which she then removes from the album.

The Amalfi Coast was wonderful, thank you for asking.  Apologies for the poor quality of the screenshots - I will see if I can do better next week.  It seems to be down to an upgrade of ITVX and a Windows upgrade - both outside my control.
