Phil "The Power" Taylor returns to Coronation Street

Looking at The Mail on Sunday online today, I see that darts champion and Corrie fan Phil "The Power" Taylor is to appear in Coronation Street once again in the New Year, as "Disco Dave" from the Flying Horse.

Apparently, Phil is friends with Michael le Vell (Kevin Webster) after meeting him in a charity darts contest.

As a darts fan myself I'm really looking forward to this, and the story sounds good fun, with the Rovers putting up a team for a competition. It's exactly the kind of storyline I watch Coronation Street for.

I'm not putting a link, as the article mentions who's in the team, so it's obviously a bit of a spoiler re. the tram crash, but if it's accurate they're a great bunch.

I CAN say that one of the players is Eddie Windass as we all know that Steve Huison's not leaving (*sniffles but carries on bravely*) till March or thereabouts.

When Disco Dave turns up on Coronation Street in the shape of darts ace Phil Taylor, the lads on the Rovers Return darts team could do worse than buy their own Newton and Ridley darts.

Phil Taylor to be Corrie's Disco Dave

Darts legend Phil "The Power" Taylor is turning up in Coronation Street early in 2009 to play the part of darts player Disco Dave, says The Sun.

Phil said: “It's an honour. My whole family are huge Corrie fans and I’ve always fancied a game of darts in the Rovers, especially against Kevin. I usually clear my diary in the run up to the World Championships but I made an exception for this. I’ll use the experience as a warm-up for the tournament.”

A Coronation Street spokesperson said: “When we heard that Phil was a fan of the show and would love a walk-on part we knew he would be perfect as Disco Dave.”
