Steve Huison and Roy Hudd in Goodnight Mister Tom

Steve Huison, who played Eddie Windass, and Roy Hudd, who played undertaker Archie Shuttleworth, are starring on stage together this week in Goodnight Mister Tom.  The play runs at the Theatre Royal, Bury St. Edmunds and you can buy tickets here.

What's the show about? It's a tale of heart-breaking loss and remarkable friendship forged in a world at war.

The Second World War has just broken out and the life of Tom Oakley, an old man in the country, is about to change for the better. Having lived alone for 40 years he reluctantly takes under his wing ten-year-old William, an evacuee from London. As William begins to soften Tom’s seemingly hardened exterior, an unspoken and unbreakable bond is formed.

Set against a background of World War Two songs, Roy Hudd leads the lineup of professional actors who will star alongside Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds Summer School in this hauntingly beautiful adaptation of Michelle Magorian’s Goodnight Mister Tom.

Corrie's Sally Carman and Steve Huison star in new film

Sally Carman, who plays Corrie's Abi, and Steve Huison, who played Corrie's Eddie Windass (and Fat Brenda too!) will be starring in a new film called Leagues Apart.

Sally will be playing the role of Ange and Steve plays her dad.  Ange is the glue that binds everyone together and the thing to pull everyone apart when they've had a barney too. 

The film will be released this autumn release. It'll be doing the film festival circuit around Manchester ... and hopefully beyond too!

The Leagues Apart film is by Sam Holland & Sam Beresford. It will star Sally Carman, Steve Huison, Bryan Parry, Michael Kinsey and Sammy Fillan.

Join Steve Huison at Cabaret Saltaire

Steve Huison, who played Eddie Windass in Coronation Street and Lomper in The Full Monty, is a really top bloke. He's raising charity funds with a cabaret night in Saltaire.

Steve, whose alter-ego Squinty McGinty hosts the regular cabaret nights at Caroline Street Social Club in Saltaire.

Lined up for June’s cabaret is legendary blues guitarist Steve Phillips and the Rough Diamonds dance band, comedians Maynard Flipflap and Billy Button, The Magic Ball man contact juggler and hoop performance artist, Scandulous production dancers and drag goddess Mysti Valentine plus Squinty’s famous meat raffle.

The ex-Coronation Street actors are starring in  the comedy When We Are Married.  It's the story of six couples all married on the same day in the same chapel who discover on their silver wedding anniversary that the ceremony was not legally binding. It’s often regarded as J B Priestley’s best work.

Steve Huison offers creative skills weekend for women

Actor Steve Huison, who starred as Eddie Windass on Coronation Street, is a man of many talents. Not least glamming up as Fat Brenda for the stage play of the same name.  Steve is a talented actor, artist and musician. Steve has now set up a residential Creativity Workshop for women in Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire in April this year.  It's a weekend course offering 'can do' sessions in being creative. Steve Huison stars in Last Train to Scarborough

Since leaving Coronation Street as Eddie Windass, actor Steve Huison has gone on to do some sterling stage work - including playing Fat Brenda in Joe Parkinson's stage play.

Steve has joined the cast of The Last Train to Scarborough, which will be staged at the wonderful Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough this summer.

I'm very excited about this.  The Last Train to Scarborough is a wonderful novel by Andrew Martin and I've read it twice. I had our tickets booked for this play, which is being staged as part of the 2014 Yorkshire Festival, months in advance.  And now that I know Steve Huison has been announced as part of the cast, it adds an extra sparkle to the show.  I can't wait.

Steve Huison's Coronation Street signed portraits for sale

Steve Huison, who played Coronation Street's Eddie Windass has been busy since he left the cobbles.  One of his many talents is as an artist and he created some wonderful pictures of the Corrie cast.  Many of these are now up for sale on ebay to help support The Shoestring Theatre.

The picture shown here for sale is of Alison King, who plays Carla Connor.  Check out all of the portraits for sale here. 

They really are excellent and along with the portrait have comments from the actor typed up on each one.

Weekend Flashback Foto

I was watching a Corrie dvd from 2003 and look who I spotted! Katy Harris has let slip where the Harris family has been hiding and the thugs that were the cause of them having to move and hide in the witness protection program have caught up with them. One of them is played by Steve Huison who later played Eddie Windass in Corrie!

Steve Huison to perform in Dumb Show

Steve Huison is a man of many talents. As well as being an international film star as Lomper in The Full Monty, he's a talented artist, and Fat Brenda's alter ego. And now he'll be starring in the Oldham Coliseum Theatre in Dumb Show this June.

Yes, the man who baked his way into our hearts as Eddie Windass on Coronation Street, actor Steve Huison will be playing Barry in Dumb Show - Joe Penhall’s fierce satire on the relationship between the morality of the press and the ethics of celebrity culture.

Barry - star of Saturday night TV – isn’t getting the ratings he used to. When two private bankers come knocking on his dressing room door with a proposition complete with a healthy fee it looks like his troubles might be over. This quick fix turns out to have one big catch; a hidden camera. With the press wanting to get every last juicy detail from one of Britain’s best known personalities they go to extreme measures to get their scoop.

Tapping right into the current question of press morality and the ethics of celebrity culture, Dumb Show is about share with you a very private story.

Steve will be starring alongside Kate Coogan and Leigh Symonds in Dumb Show. The play opens at the Grange Arts Centre from 12 – 30 June 2012. Tickets can be booked by calling the box office on 0161 624 2829 or online at www.coliseum.org.uk

Another review of Fat Brenda's Flamin' Story

I saw Fat Brenda's Flamin' Story last night in Harrogate, so I thought I'd give another view of it. I invited my friend Sam to come with me, and she's always up for a theatre trip, so despite not really being a Corrie fan she came along - although she did insist we had a nice tea first!

I absolutely adore Steve Huison, have loved him since I first saw him in The Full Monty, and am still gutted that he's no longer in Corrie. So when I first heard about the play, I knew I wanted to go, and hoped that it could be what I wanted it to be. Fortunately, it was.

It was a brilliant mixture of comedy and pathos, something which I feel Huison is incredibly suited to. The writing was for the most part flawless, and as Glenda said in her review of the show, for one man to perform for that long and keep the audience with him was immense. I also won't spoil you for the story, but there were several things that really stood out:

1) The taxi firm being called "Go Le Taxi" - so easily missed, but hilarious.

2) Brenda talking about Ken's kimono: "What that posh lass off the barge bought him."

3) Cliff Richard and Brenda's obsession with him: "Praise Cliff!" etc.

4) The office chair and its dodgy hydraulics.

5) Brenda's shoes - pink, with hot pink feathers.

6) Brenda's Beltin' Bingo - Eyes down, look in.

So much more - I honestly can't remember the last time I laughed so much. Fortunately a lot of the jokes were universal, so Sam did mostly understand it. Plus her mum also loves Cliff Richard, so that helped I think.

It was definitely worth going, I would recommend it for any Corrie fan. Well done to all involved - you should definitely be very proud of yourselves!

Ken Barlow on my wall

This is a poster sized print of a charcoal portrait of William Roache aka Ken Barlow. The original print is one of a series that were done by Corrie actor Steve Huison who played Eddie Windass. We've blogged about his art before. Steve is a very talented artist and he put on a show with the portraits and is now auctioning limited edition prints on eBay to raise money for his favourite charity, the Shoestring Theatre project in aid of mental health.

A few weeks ago he had some on eBay and I bid on several but the first two I tried for, I didn't get (Sue Nicholls/Audrey and Katy Cavanagh/Julie). This one was still ongoing so I put in a bid. I was outbid but only by a little and I was now determined to have it. Uhoh, I hear you say! Never fear, I sat and waited and watched and nobody else bid so with 20 seconds left on the clock, I entered my winning bid, just a little over the one that was the top bid and held my breath. The thing is, you don't know if the other bidder had put in a higher "max" bid that would automatically outbid your higher bid.

But it seems they didn't do that, and I won the auction and the print. I received it about 2 weeks later which wasn't bad for Canada Post and Steve also included one of his cast cards with a note on the back assuring me the money would go to the charity and thanking me. Result!

He doesn't have anything on the auctions at the moment, but hopefully, this link to his items will work for when he does. You can also buy his portraits from this site. They go for about £50 there. I paid less via eBay but your mileage may vary. Some of them on eBay were going for a lot more.

He may be gone from Coronation Street, but he's not forgotten. Steve Huison, aka Eddie Windass, is also a talented artist and those Corrie portraits he did and subsequently auctioned of are still for sale. You can order one here

He's also offereing them for auction on eBay where you might be lucky enough to get one for less than the £50 they sell for online. Check out the current offerings here. It's all going towards the charity he supports that helps people with mental illness, the Hospital to Home project.

What Eddie Windass did next

Actor Steve Huison might have left Coronation Street as Eddie Windass but we'll see him back on TV soon on a new CBBC show called The 4 O'Clock Club.  Steve plays the role of Mr Byron the headtacher, so keep your eye out for him appearing on that show very soon.

And don't forget, Steve will also be starring as Fat Brenda live on stage, in a one-man (woman?) show written by our very talented, award winning blogger, Fat Brenda herself.
