Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 24 July 2026

I think we are still on Thursday episodes but next week we might well have caught up!  Much of tonight's activity centres around Maria who decides to visit her murderous mate, Sarah-Lou, in prison and to reveal that Gary has blabbed.  Sarah feels she needs to explain her wish to keep Kit's nose out of it and instead it will cost Gary his wife, his kids and his freedom.  Sarah Lou (as Maria calls her) squirms and accepts that Maria would like to rip her head off.  Maria gets her claws out and digs them into Sarah Lou pointing out that Harry might be used to a new step-father every month - but her kids are not.  Sarah promises that she will never use Gary's name.  She tells Maria to go home and sort it out with Gary.  That seems unlikely.

Shona gets some good news - Harper is coming home tomorrow - that will be Sunday then.  

Carla and Lisa manage to organise a date night until DS Swain-Connor's phone goes off and there is a new development in the Silverton case and she is going to be extra busy for the rest of the day!  In similar good news we also find that Sam is coming home tomorrow to the reveal that Sarah has been locked up.  Nick is worried it will set Sam back.

DS Connor-Swains busy day is driven by Sarah's availability to be interviewed.  The DS has Sarah's phone records and knows that she phoned Gary but before the questioning gets underway Sarah decides it is time to 'fess up and she admits she killed Theo in self defence.  She exchanged a few pleasantries with Gary but he was not involved in any way and she cannot remember what she did with the murder weapon or where it is now.  So it looks like Sarah will be leaving the Street for a while.  However she has not really thought through this whole confession lark so sounds completely unbelievable when the inevitable questions are served up by the DS.  The cracks are showing and the DS is not swallowing the crumbs she has been thrown.  Kit breaks the bad news to the Platt family.  

In case you had forgotten Eva and Maria are not the best of friends - it is all to do with Aidan who had a fling with Maria when courting Eva ending with a fight in the fountain on the wedding day.  At Audrey's they are daggers drawn with Eva refusing to let Maria anywhere near her tresses whilst a little later (and having consumed her body weight in alcohol Maria has more than a few digs at Maria.  Sadly no fisticuffs. 

Anyway we know Kit does not like Gary and also that he loves Sarah - is he plotting to save his beloved at the expense of Windass?  He certainly seems to be implying that Sarah is not going anywhere if he can avoid it.  Sarah says she is letting him go - but Kit is going nowhere and he promises to look after Harry and Bethany.  Sarah also issues Kit with a warning about Jodie.

Returning home very much the worse for wear Maria tells Gary she has been barred from the Rovers.  Gary makes it clear that he loves Maria and not Sarah.  Eventually Maria relents and it looks like Gary will not be sleeping on the sofa tonight.  

We close with Kit and Harry hugging, both wanting Sarah back with them.

Unless there is one of those twists we should have seen coming I have to say Sarah's future looks pretty bleak.  Harper and Sam will be back soon so hopefully the flags will be flying on Sunday.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 17 July 2026

Good day.  Tonight we are back to only 30 minutes and I think this is Thursday's episode but I could be wrong.  Betsy is in hospital and Lauren for reasons that have not been explained in words of one syllable decides to tell Dylan, once DC McLaughlin has taken his statement, that Betsy does not want to see him, although Betsy is desperate to see Dylan and does not want the police involved.  Dylan claims it was all consensual and anyway Betsy was fine when he left her.  Fiz sees the police inviting Dylan to assist with their inquiries.  Sean spends much of the day looking for Dylan eventually finding him with Brody.  Dylan concocts a fantasy in which Betsy cheated with Brody after he had left and that Brody caused the injury.  When will someone admit that they are responsible, however inadvertently.  

Later Lauren tells everyone in the Rovers about Dylan's sexual practices and bans both Dylan and Sean from the Rovers which presumably means Sean has lost his job.  Dylan is particularly upset with Betsy as it seems she wants to see Brody and not him.  And there we have it.  Why would people who love each other cause each other any harm?  Lauren tells Betsy and Brody of the cheating allegation and Brody heads off to sort him out.  Why does Lauren feel the need to lie like this?  

Kit is ensuring that Sarah's and Gary's phones are completely wiped after ensuring that all the important information is stored on a usb drive for his personal use paying Jay to sort it for him.  Jake provides Gary with a replacement phone with a ring tone of "Remember Jake" as Gary has promised to attend his prize giving tomorrow (odd school terms finished today so definitely Thursday).

I get a distinct feeling Mary is not accepting Christina's apology any time soon.  Later Christina's phone pings and there are numerous text messages (unreadable) but this is not over yet I suspect with more parcels being delivered (I think).

Devious Dev borrows the money which is going to be used to keep Joseph at Oakhill now that Linda cannot pay as her business has gone bust.  However the story on the street is that Linda is actually paying and only the grown ups know the truth (Chesney and Gemma are not grown ups).  And frankly how can Dev borrow any money?  Linda is entirely onside with the story.  Can she come back please?

Tracy is none too happy with Cassie warning her off Ross who explains the flowers were for Fiz.  In the cafe Ross also tells Tracy that he wants to slow things down to zero as Ross wants to concentrate on Ty.  Tracy expresses her delight in his decision by taking the ketchup bottle from the table and squirting it on his food and into his brew.  In the Rovers later Cassie admits to Steve that she received cash when Ross slept with her.  She does not want to tell Ty this nugget but at the moment Ty does not think much of his mother anyway so I doubt it would make much difference.  

DC McGlaughlin, the new kid on the block passes DS Swain (Connor-Swain) a brown envelope plus authority from the superintendent to undertake an arrest.  We see Gary walking into the Rovers and it is implied there is enough in the brown envelope to justify him assisting them with their enquiries under caution.

I am not personally clear on why Lauren has quite such a downer on Dylan and I can only assume that she is recalling the no doubt similar abuse delivered by Joel (open to clarification on this).  I hate the story and indeed cannot even understand how or why such an act would even be contemplated.  What happened to people living their best lives on the back streets of Weatherfield?  It looks like Gary will be unable to attend Jake's prize giving.  I hope Dev gets good value for the near £50k he is funding.

Episode Review Friday 27 February 2026

Welcome to tonight as Bernie wakes in her cell in Weatherfield police station where the police force currently believe that she attacked and left Mal Roper the worse for wear.  She has an early morning visit from Kit who is absolutely convinced that she did not do it.  Initially she answers no comments, however she eventually volunteers she was getting rat arsed in the Corner Shop rather than rampaging the streets to deal with the unlovely Roper.  The police then go off to check the CCTV.  

At Shuttleworth's Damien Ripley arrives - they were doing his aunt's funeral and he is Joan's son - who passed away in the undertakers in the Thursday episode.  He would like them to continue the family tradition as so far he has not heard the vicious rumours floating around that George is bumping people off for the inheritance!  As Damien leaves the undertakers Adam and the angry Mrs King appear and start abusing George and his business ethics, calling him a conman.  Mr Ripley backs out of having anything to do with Shuttleworths.  At the police station Kit takes details from Mrs King but Kit can see no reason to pursue any investigations.  However Adam reminds Kit of Christina's murky past and so sticks in a poisoned quill to get Kit to take it further.  Sarah and Sean tittle-tattle over the dead sisters in the Rovers later.  Tim comes in and reports that Mrs King and Adam felt they had a good meeting with Kit.  Christina pooh poohs the whole thing but George is seriously worried.  

Jodie pours away the milk and unloads the dishwasher of dirty plates and loses the list of jobs left by Shona who arrives back from the hospital as David falls downstairs late for work.  Shona tells him off for what he has not done as cleverly orchestrated by Jodie.  Later Jodie is working in the cafe and Bethany is picking up some food and queries how Jodie managed to find Shona's lost ring down the back of a sofa at the Platts when Shona was convinced she lost it in Audreys.  As Bethany leaves the cafe Shona comes in still completely worn out and in need of caffeine and admits she snapped at David earlier which was wrong.  Bethany turns on her heel and asks Jodie to take Lily to the cinema tonight so that Shona and David can have some one to one time.  Jodie is less than amused by this turn of events.  However she goes along with it and David and Shona just about have five minutes to themselves and are about to unmake the bed when Jodie and Lily return - turns out the film was an 18.  They had to come home as there was nothing on for an hour and Lily has football training in the morning.  Jodie consumes the brownies which David was about to enjoy.    

Steve spoke to Andy last night about Big Jim and as a result he is not going to let his father get under his skin.  He is going to forget he has a father.  Steve reckons everything is going well, he loves his job, Amy is doing well and he has the perfect girlfriend.  Mary comes in and tells them she is off to the BRIT Awards tomorrow - Ben Shephard is back in Manchester.  Well he might be there.  Steve goes and Mary seeing things are going well for Cassie and Steve remarks that it is a pity it is not a leap year.  You can almost (it is very slow) see the cogs clicking in Cassie's head.  Later in the cab office Cassie reveals to Mary and then to Tim that she is going to propose to Steve and they are getting married.  Tim just hopes Steve will say yes which plants a seed of doubt in Cassie's mind.  

Kit catches up briefly with Sarah as it looks like Bernie is going to be charged.  However Kit knows that Bernie did not have anything to do with it because, as he tells Sarah he did.  He claims he grabbed Mal and gave him a shove.  Then Mal had a heart attack which is why he is in the hospital.  Sarah-Lou tells him he has to go to the station and report himself - he would lose his job of course.  At the station just as Kit is about to end his career Bernie is released from incarceration as the CCTV in the shop proved to the police that she was getting drunk there when Mal was attacked and so she is off the hook and at least for now so is Kit.  Once home Dev welcomes Bernie back, but she wants to know how Kit knew about the CCTV as she did not think anyone knew where she was.  He lies.  She knows there is more to it than that.  

Lisa has attended Professional Standards - no case to answer, off desk duties and with Bernie in the clear Kit is back on the Mal Roper case.  He protests he is too busy but Lisa is sure he would like to know who attacked the man who had been harassing Bernie - his mother?  Lisa wants to get back to catching the bad guys,  Kit rather looks like there is one crime on the books which he would rather prefer remains unsolved.

Many years ago I took my younger sister to see "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".  A fine film and the first time I have ever experienced the audience applauding in the dark.  However it was not until we were sat sitting watching the film startup that I realised it was an "X" and as she was about 5 years younger then me she was not then 18.  I am not sure it did her any harm.
