Episode Review Friday 27 February 2026

Welcome to tonight as Bernie wakes in her cell in Weatherfield police station where the police force currently believe that she attacked and left Mal Roper the worse for wear. She has an early morning visit from Kit who is absolutely convinced that she did not do it. Initially she answers no comments, however she eventually volunteers she was getting rat arsed in the Corner Shop rather than rampaging the streets to deal with the unlovely Roper. The police then go off to check the CCTV.

At Shuttleworth's Damien Ripley arrives - they were doing his aunt's funeral and he is Joan's son - who passed away in the undertakers in the Thursday episode. He would like them to continue the family tradition as so far he has not heard the vicious rumours floating around that George is bumping people off for the inheritance! As Damien leaves the undertakers Adam and the angry Mrs King appear and start abusing George and his business ethics, calling him a conman. Mr Ripley backs out of having anything to do with Shuttleworths. At the police station Kit takes details from Mrs King but Kit can see no reason to pursue any investigations. However Adam reminds Kit of Christina's murky past and so sticks in a poisoned quill to get Kit to take it further. Sarah and Sean tittle-tattle over the dead sisters in the Rovers later. Tim comes in and reports that Mrs King and Adam felt they had a good meeting with Kit. Christina pooh poohs the whole thing but George is seriously worried.

Jodie pours away the milk and unloads the dishwasher of dirty plates and loses the list of jobs left by Shona who arrives back from the hospital as David falls downstairs late for work. Shona tells him off for what he has not done as cleverly orchestrated by Jodie. Later Jodie is working in the cafe and Bethany is picking up some food and queries how Jodie managed to find Shona's lost ring down the back of a sofa at the Platts when Shona was convinced she lost it in Audreys. As Bethany leaves the cafe Shona comes in still completely worn out and in need of caffeine and admits she snapped at David earlier which was wrong. Bethany turns on her heel and asks Jodie to take Lily to the cinema tonight so that Shona and David can have some one to one time. Jodie is less than amused by this turn of events. However she goes along with it and David and Shona just about have five minutes to themselves and are about to unmake the bed when Jodie and Lily return - turns out the film was an 18. They had to come home as there was nothing on for an hour and Lily has football training in the morning. Jodie consumes the brownies which David was about to enjoy.

Steve spoke to Andy last night about Big Jim and as a result he is not going to let his father get under his skin. He is going to forget he has a father. Steve reckons everything is going well, he loves his job, Amy is doing well and he has the perfect girlfriend. Mary comes in and tells them she is off to the BRIT Awards tomorrow - Ben Shephard is back in Manchester. Well he might be there. Steve goes and Mary seeing things are going well for Cassie and Steve remarks that it is a pity it is not a leap year. You can almost (it is very slow) see the cogs clicking in Cassie's head. Later in the cab office Cassie reveals to Mary and then to Tim that she is going to propose to Steve and they are getting married. Tim just hopes Steve will say yes which plants a seed of doubt in Cassie's mind.

Kit catches up briefly with Sarah as it looks like Bernie is going to be charged. However Kit knows that Bernie did not have anything to do with it because, as he tells Sarah he did. He claims he grabbed Mal and gave him a shove. Then Mal had a heart attack which is why he is in the hospital. Sarah-Lou tells him he has to go to the station and report himself - he would lose his job of course. At the station just as Kit is about to end his career Bernie is released from incarceration as the CCTV in the shop proved to the police that she was getting drunk there when Mal was attacked and so she is off the hook and at least for now so is Kit. Once home Dev welcomes Bernie back, but she wants to know how Kit knew about the CCTV as she did not think anyone knew where she was. He lies. She knows there is more to it than that.

Lisa has attended Professional Standards - no case to answer, off desk duties and with Bernie in the clear Kit is back on the Mal Roper case. He protests he is too busy but Lisa is sure he would like to know who attacked the man who had been harassing Bernie - his mother? Lisa wants to get back to catching the bad guys, Kit rather looks like there is one crime on the books which he would rather prefer remains unsolved.

Many years ago I took my younger sister to see "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". A fine film and the first time I have ever experienced the audience applauding in the dark. However it was not until we were sat sitting watching the film startup that I realised it was an "X" and as she was about 5 years younger then me she was not then 18. I am not sure it did her any harm.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 22 August 2025

Umm where do I start? Abi and her passport have spent the night in Kev's bed with Carl. Debbie lets herself in and then passes out whilst Abi is out getting some food and so Carl finds his sister on the floor - but there is nothing he can do as he is in Anglesey and needs to drive back. Debbie visits the hospital and is soon fighting fit (even if she was jiggeered previously) although she had the strangest dream about Carl being there when she was spark out. No I don't write this stuff but the people who do need to take a good look at themselves. Abi's best friend on t'Street Tracy (who saw Abi getting beers and thinks she is off the wagon) has worked out what the mucky devious cow is doing and demands ~~her piece of flesh~~ a payoff to keep her exceptionally large gob ungobbed. Carl (deep in debt and much else) offers the £10k we all know he has not got in exchange for silence. Admit it - the game is up.

Similarly fictional is that all the factory customers heard that Eli is demanding a 40% price reduction and so all the other customers want the same price reduction (but without being sexually harassed by Sarah). Business does not work like that. Eli is not going to tell his competitors and if you drive a business to supply below cost then you are driving your supplier out of business (eg supermarkets and farmers). David Platt meanwhile is putting recycling in Carla's bin. Later David the dog is locked out and Lisa starts noting how often it barks (living in a terrace house is so different to living in a flat). Carla does get Eli to accept a lesser cut in prices and hopes she can achieve the same with the other customers meanwhile Sarah had better get some new business and she can cancel her dentist appointment. Sarah and Kit discuss Brody and her run in with Carla earlier in the day and just after wine o'clock Sarah decides to have a bath.

Lou gets sentenced to four years and it does not go well with the family. Later chez Metcalfe a social worker and a psychologist are visiting. The latter particularly wants to talk to Joanie and everyone else goes into the garden whilst the sulky girl is asked some questions. Afterwards the psychologist thinks weekly meetings would be good. However out in the garden Shanice screams and comes in and claims that Joanie threw something at her. It ends up with Joanie being taken into care and so Brody's desire to keep the girls together has failed so he is fed up with everyone not keeping their promises. But is Joanie really to blame? Who can tell?

Aadi has been given a caution over the spiked drinks so he can get on with his life. He and Amy make up and Aadi is adjusting mentally to a future in India where he hopes that Amy might visit.

Ollie keeps pestering Dee Dee for a date - and then accidentally finds her pushing the pram in Dev's. Ollie meet Laila my daughter. Which is the first he has heard of it. Dee Dee now agrees to meet Ollie for a coffee and he agrees. In the cafe Dee Dee tells him about Joel and Laila. Ollie is a little lost for words and Dee Dee interprets his thinking time as a lack of interest in her. Ollie later visits Number 3 with a huge unicorn under his arm for Laila and an apology for Dee Dee who apologies for being abrupt earlier and kisses him.

On and off throughout the episode we see Asha not at peace with the world and the episode ends with her sitting on the bench in hospital car park looking like she is about to have a breakdown after telling everyone that there is nothing wrong with her. No doubt all will be revealed soon.

See you next week and then I will probably be missing for two weeks as I am off to Spanish paradors (which are not to be confused with paramours).

The Rovers Return is up for sale! But who's going to buy it?

Is this really the 'end of an era'? Are 'times a-changin' at Weatherfield's finest watering hole? Just two idioms mentioned by rovers regulars on Wednesday night's Corrie, and it right got me thinking!

A few weeks back Coronation Street announced a marketing tie-up with real-world estate agents Purple Bricks, announcing the sale of our favourite fictional pub. The fictional boozer now has a real-life 'For Sale' sign adorning the set. A piece of canny marketing aside, I wonder; is Jenny going to give up her landlady life? Is The Rovers Return about to change hands, again? If that's the case then I have a few questions...

1. How long will the pub be on sale? Normally within Weatherfield business circles, transactions are completed within a week's worth of episodes (Gail's buyback of sinkhole number 8) when the reality of such acquisitions is likely to be months and months. So, with this product tie in, can we expect The Rovers to be on the market for a real-world time, say 3 months? Could it even be going up for an online auction?

2. Will it stay as a pub? In the real world, and as much as I love The Rovers it would surely be a Tesco express now, or have been converted into one-bed flats, a Co-Op, or even a Weatherfield Wetherspoons? Nah, me neither! I think the beauty of Weatherfield is the escapism and otherworldly drama that creates! We need that pub as a reminder of a bygone era, let's keep it that way!

3. Who's going to buy it? I can't imagine a new cast coming in to run it, can you? I'd guess that Rita could dip into her millions and finally buy it ( pals? pals!) for Jenny. Ronnie Bailey has cash and likes Jenny, Debbie Webster is minted, and Kev has got a few quid too. Could the street's legendary boozer, Audrey Roberts, buy it up and turn it into a gin joint? Sally and Tim would make a right team behind that bar too!

That said, in recent years, Jenny Bradley has elevated the Rovers landlady position back to the forefront of the show, in homage to Bet, Liz, and Annie, of course! Jenny is hilarious, gorgeous, bolshy, witty, and a cracking businesswoman who can handle any trouble in that bar. Ideally, I propose Jenny Bradley keeps the pub and Rita buys it for her. However, for drama purposes, she will struggle at first and somebody else will come close to purchasing, until the last minute saviour type moment! Steve Mcdonald, maybe?
