Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 25 April 2025

Daisy and Christina are eating breakfast wondering where Jenny might be.  She soon appears having spent the night in the arms of Dom who despite Jenny's offer turns down breakfast after a look from Christina.  Turns out later that Jenny was recounting her history over the last 10 years and nothing jiggy happened.  Needless to say Daisy and Christina are not entirely sure but the latter believes that Dom was merely doing the necessary to secure the deal.  Christina quotes Col John (Hannibal) Smith as she loves it when a plan comes together!  Daisy is not convinced as she does not want Jenny getting hurt.  Daniel and Daisy are lunching at the Chariot Square hotel prior to a couples massage session, where they discuss to where they will move - Daniel suggests Yorkshire, Daisy suggests Bali.  Christina arrives with Dom and Daniel spots Jenny's new boyfriend!  He wants to know what is going on. It is purely an accidental encounter as Dom is staying at the hotel and pretends he does not know Christina's name.  Daniel is not buying it but Daisy is sure it is innocent to Daniel but she later follows up with her mother and is even more disturbed.  Christina reckons that Daisy is not going to know what's hit her when she and Dom go through with their plan.  

Carl is being pursued by Otto in Germany but he has not yet managed to get any moneys to save the business.  He takes some items from Abi to Debbie at the hotel where she is covering reception and he offers to help.  He says she can talk to him if she needs to.  She still thinks it is just age and not what the doctors are implying.  He wants to ask Debbie for money but Ronnie appears with Laila and they are out of formula so Debbie needs to get some more.  Ronnie needs to dash to a meeting and Carl gets to answer the phone for which he puts on a posh voice and is actually competent whilst handling customers as Debbie fusses over Laila who has continued to be grizzly and unhappy.  Abi has been called in to sort a van and will take a steak and chips as payment.  Debbie walks the baby to Roys where it is identified the baby is running a temperature so we are off to the hospital with Dee Dee who just happens in at that moment.  Update is that Laila's temperature is stabilised but the cause is not known.  Ronnie is arriving and Dee Dee departs.  Later Debbie worries she fed the baby the wrong formula - but it turns out that was not the problem.  Carl finally raises his need for cash but it does not get an answer.  Laila is later able to come home.  

Tracy is buying a coffee in Roy's when Carla, Lisa and Betsy arrive - the latter does not want to share airspace with the woman who helped Rob get her shot.  After an exchange of words Betsy storms off upset with all three of the ladies present.   Dee Dee crosses with Lauren in the shop, the latter explaining she has a cold.  In the background Betsy is trying to buy alcohol from Aadi who knows she is underage.  Lauren tries to make friends with Dee Dee but the response (with Dee Dee half hidden behind a display stand for some reason) is particularly cold.  Betsy claims her mother sent her for the alcohol - but even Aadi can see through that one.  Then Betsy asks Lauren as she is 18.  19 in fact rejoins Lauren and no she won't buy the alcohol.  Betsy calls Aadi and Lauren a waste of space and departs after reminding us that she still cannot feel anything in her damaged arm.  Later Tracy has returned from the wholesaler with the van full of flowers and Betsy decides to damage them.  Lauren spots her and is in the driving seat when Tracy comes back out of the shop and the van is driven away.

George is not asleep on the sofa when Eileen comes down.  She is still cross.  She cannot understand how someone who is normally so kind could be so heartless.  At work George and Todd are both like bears with sore heads and have cross words.  Todd tells George that he needs to show Eileen he cares - he knows his mum loves him.  Julie has managed a lunch at Roy's with Brian when Eileen arrives and under pressure from Julie Eileen admits that perhaps George is not perfect - but he does take the bins out.  Julie says Eileen needs passion in her life - Brian is writing her a poem.  Julie keeps up the pressure on Eileen getting her to admit she might be settling when she could be happy.  George tells Eileen that he loves her and she means so much to him - but we can see from her body language that it is not reciprocated.  However she tells Julie she and George are together and it is going to stay that way.

David (in his persona of Jack P Shepherd later in the evening was crowned winner of CBB 2025) and Shona return from France - but they were glad to get away from Gail who is happily settled.  David wants a shower but is interrupted by Sarah who is wearing a bath towel and then Kit emerges from the bedroom.  David calls Kit a scumbag who slept with his wife, although Shona admits it does not worry her if Kit is there.  David and Sarah argue whilst Kit winds up David.  Sarah says that she and Kit are not married - but as Kit observes not yet anyway.  David complains about Sarah's taste in men!  He calls Kit dodgy.  Sarah says they have all made mistakes and there needs to be a fresh start - Kit offers his hand and David gives it the limpest shake you can imagine.  In the Rovers later Sarah asks Kit about what he said and it seems they are both up for a proper relationship.  He kisses Sarah and his kissing skills are discussed between Glenda and Daisy.  David is not impressed when he comes in but luckily he has not had his dinner yet.

I am not sure if Lauren has learnt to drive (she has not passed her test) but her trip has ended in an encounter with a skip by the Community Centre.  Betsy tells Lauren to disappear (for the benefit of Frankie) when PC Jess Haywood climbs out of her car and has no option but to do Betsy for twocing.  Lisa is summoned to the station and Betsy insists she was driving, although everyone knows she only has one arm that works and that Becky did not teach her to drive as she alleges.  Betsy says she is sorry but she is in deep trouble.  Tracy arrives at Carla's flat spoiling for a fight.  She argues with Lisa who makes it clear that Betsy will have to pay for what she has done.  Tracy has no van and a huge wedding flower delivery tomorrow.  Lisa throws Tracy out.  Betsy calls Tracy a loser and Lisa tells Betsy to get out of her sight.  In the kebab shop Betsy confirms to Lauren that she has not been named.  Betsy reckons she is in line for a telling off as it is a first offence.  The two are official mates.  However Lauren gets a text message saying "I know you stole the van".  The sender is 07700900290 - I wonder who is unable to with hold their number?

However back at the Chariot Square Debbie is talking to Carl.  Today may have been a let off - but longer term she is going to become a liability.  The reality is setting in.

Before I go I will not be here for the next two weeks as I shall be in deepest darkest Cornwall (see Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier for reference) on the next two Fridays.  Hopefully by then we might have some warmer brighter storylines to report.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 15 March 2024

I am made it there and back, Northern Lights ticked off the bucket list (just) and Iceland did not erupt!  So back to Weatherfield where it appears events took a grisly turn in Lauren's flat with apparently everyone being accused of a murder and no-one has a body!  Daniel feels he has dodged a bullet and he is convinced that Master Max is responsible for his police interview.  He challenges Max on the Street but makes no impression on the lad and is only stopped from assaulting him by Ken.  The missing person is the subject of gossip all over the Street and the internet trolls are out in force alleging that Roy should be answering questions.  Suki from the paper later comes into do another missing persons appeal and says that comments on the earlier article have now been disabled.  However DS Swain arrives to arrest Roy Cropper on suspicion of murder.  Suki gets her headline and one of the observers manages to video Roy being taken away in a police car - simply because he likes bats and steam trains apparently.

To help Simon reform he is going to a meeting of "The Altovalent Institute" at Chariot Square Hotel, Debbie is more interested in selling Leanne and Nick a wedding event - she has a few spare dates so how about a booking - some people book 2 years in advance.  Nick eventually mans up and admits that he loves Leanne but does not feel they should be marrying at this moment.  They argue and Simon seems fired up with his session with "The Institute".  Leanne remains at the hotel to talk to Debbie and gets into conversation with Rowan who overhears her conversation and starts on about mantras and rebooting and so on.  Leanne admits to being a worrier and Rowan's face looks as though he is calculating,  Rowan talks to Leanne about needing to live authentically and fully.  Lots of mumbo jumbo there to unpack.  Later Nick and Leanne agree they want to be together - but perhaps forget the wedding for now.  

Joseph is keen on going to Oakhill, unlike Gemma who appears only to be able to shout at everyone all the time.  And in case we had all forgotten they were related Linda had lunch with her daughter.  Izzy seems less than enamoured of her mother's plans for Joseph and the lack of equal concern for Jake which enables Izzy to hand out a piece of her mind.  I am not surprised that Izzy is angry and when Gemma asks for equal treatment for the quad squad, Linda nearly has a meltdown and Izzy storms off!  However later on the pressure on Gemma from Paul, Chesney and others means it looks like he will be going to Oakhill after all there is the archery and games coding to be considered.

Eliza has both Stu and Dom twisted around her little finger.  After months of things going back and forth Dom and Stu have a proper discussion and Stu then gets Bridget to agree to a new plan.  Dom tells his German family about his daughter and before long Eliza will be heading to Hamburg to live with people who have only just found out that she exists and Stu is paying for her to attend an International School in Germany.  

Toyah lets slip to Steve that when Amy lunched with her mother Tommy O was present as well.  Steve does not want to damage his relationship with his daughter and accepts that she has to know about Tommy.  Toyah later apologises and buys Steve a drink.  Collecting a curry in Speed Dahl Steve and Amy talk - she says she was curious about how serious Tommy O was to be with Tracy.  Steve lets slip that Tommy may be moving abroad.

Roy, being Roy, wishes to cooperate with the police.  Roy admits to cleaning the flat whilst wearing gloves - second nature in his job after all.  Roy confirms that the money under the mattress was the wages he had paid - the notes have his fingerprints and he paid her an extra £27 to round up the amount he was paying.   DS Swain says that no body has been found but that they are of the opinion that Roy was the last person to see Lauren alive (and we all know what that means).  Roy confirms he had Lauren's phone number and yes there were a lot of messages as she was not always entirely punctual.  And Roy denies any online contact and did not follow her on social media.  Roy had no knowledge of Lauren undertaking sex work.  But he is not entirely surprised recalling that she once offered herself to him.  Roy knows that her values were warped due to her father and his associates.  The broken chair had traces of Lauren's blood and tissues on it.  However DS Swain has a condom wrapper which does have Roy's fingerprints - but he found it after removing his gloves.  Roy is eventually released on police bail and placed on curfew which as Roy acknowledges will kibosh his cabaret career.  Whilst Roy believes the truth will prevail, Dee Dee seems less certain.

Strangers in bars rarely remain strangers for long.  Leanne ought to know better than falling for a smooth talker given her history but you never know.  I assume that Eliza needs a couple of years out for exams or similar, so a path is being provided.  I am liking the scenes between Steve and Amy as they negotiate Tracy's decision - but what will Tommy O actually do?  And is there anyway Linda can become more or less permanent and rebuild a proper relationship with Izzy and work with Gemma and Chesney?  No doubt all this and more will be covered next week.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 15 December 2023

Good evening.  Well if you are going to destroy your relationship always resolve the problems of everyone else before you try and ask for your partner to take you back.  Daisy plays an absolute blinder tonight.  Her betrayal leads to Daniel and Ryan scrapping on t'Street.  Daniel manages to land a decent blow giving Ryan a black left eye - the same side as all his other scars.  Crystal finally twigs that "something" has been going down (and down and down).  For good reason Daisy cannot say that she does not love Ryan to Daniel.  Daisy turns into a swirling dervish - telling Ryan in Victoria Gardens that Daniel knew all along and had wrecked the gym job.  She then pops along to the Bistro where Crystal having demanded some space is told the truth and suggests to Crystal that when Ryan turns she should give him another chance which Crystal does.  Daisy having sorted everyone else then talks to Daniel on his doorstep but are we entirely surprised when he shuts the door in his face.  And for longer term afficionados how much did this remind us of Ken (Daniel) and Mike (Ryan) as generation speaks unto generation?  Daisy will no doubt head to Morocco for a handsome replacement but meanwhile is in tears as Daniel has told her it is over.

In the middle of the above Adam appeared out of nowhere.  Where is he living?  How is it he does not have a new best friend?  Did someone check his contract and see he was short of episodes?  I do think his spasmodic contributions are not making the best of him - but I suppose it does give him the opportunity to turn up with a new haircut every time we see him!

Elsewhere it appears that dog loving Terry has not reported dog stealing Evelyn to the police and has been released from police care.  Having given this some thought Roy and Evelyn come to the conclusion that perhaps Terry has something to hide concerning the little white dog.  Now why would a dog "owner" not want to press charges for theft?  Could it be that he is not the "owner" of said £1500 pooch?  Indeed is there a "dodgy puppy farm" which needs shutting down?

Jenny has gone through Stephen's laptop with fine toothcomb and found a file which he used moments before ripping thousands of pounds out of the factory account.  And unlike every other file it is password protected - even the police could not be bothered to break the file encryption as they did not deem it was related to multiple murders so not their concern.  Jenny dahling you need a hacker or the dark web (if anyone can put me in touch with the dark web please let me know).  Jenny enlists Carla's assistance as it is her money.  Well Jenny is her step-mother.  

Elsewhere there is meltdown in the Platt family as the content of Stephen's dairy, particularly the historic relevations that Sarah was in fact Brian's child and not some other person (Ian Latimer) has upset Sarah - why I am not sure as it all happened before she came along.  Anyway as Audrey tells Jenny and Carla the journal (which looks like a filofax to me - do people still use them in place of their phone these days) has all of Stephen's thoughts and she is going to take it home and read it from cover to cover.  Carla takes a peak and realises that there is a strong possibility that Stephen has passwords hidden in his journal.  (I don't write them down - I save them all in a file on this PC - as would Stephen I suspect).  Much sibling bickering between David and Sarah enlivens events - no room for it all here!  Gail uses PlattChat to set up a Platt family get together for tomorrow for Audrey.  

Does anyone care about Eliza, Yasmeen, Dom and Stu?  Well after the concert where Sam was an absolute whizz on the triangle they return home and Dom hangs around until it is time to go to Germany.  He tries to imply that he is coming back for Christmas but we know he won't and Stu thinks he is finally rid of the man.  But this is Coronation Street and I reckon that Dom will dob Stu in for his payoff to social services to get Eliza all to himself.  Other predictions are readily available.

Which means that Friday night is a wrap.

Tonight in memory of Bob Johnson I have been listening to the "King of Elfland's Daughter" whilst writing this update.  A wonderful guitarist with Steeleye Span and this concept album with Pete Knight - ride softly into your next life.
