Corrie Comicals Week Ending 22 June 2018

I suspect that the Corrie team know that they have a little gem with Isabella Flanagan who appears above as Hope Stape with her tongue out at Sean who has just called her and Ruby Dobbs "maggots".  (Ruby followed suit a few seconds later, sticking her tongue out).

Alya is bemoaning the responsibilities which come with owning Underworld - but without taking a breath she asks Gary to fix a leak.  Except it is not immediate obvious she means it - which she soon corrects.

There was a nice brother and sister heart to heart tonight - oft forgotten as they rarely seem to meet until recently.  And a lovely line from Kirk as he has to work out the link from "Susie" "Connor" to Liam Connor.  If anyone can tell me just how they are related then please let me know!

Recently I have been celebrating the interaction of the three sisters in the Rovers (Toyah, Leanne and Eva).  However there are three new witches on the block and one of them appears to have aged significantly - so please find above the three new Connor witches - Stheno, Euryale and Medusa - the Gorgons of Greek mythology perhaps?  Is it me or does Kate seem to have aged about 10 years!  Johnny keeps refusing to tell Jenny until she walks into the Rovers and hears that what they are discussing is nothing to do with her (which holds for long enough for Carla to read the adoption papers and realises that Susie needs a mother!).

The writer on Wednesday seemed to have a dry cleaning affliction.  First Audrey was absent collecting her own dry cleaning.  Much later Alya sent her "PA" Sarah to collect her dry cleaning which she is seen bringing back into the factory with an extra hot coffee whilst sorting out an "appointment" on the phone with Mrs Carmichael, all at the same time as part of a devious ploy to convince the "team" not to pursue the unadvertised vacancy!

When being interviewed for a job it is a good idea to know the name of the likely employer - "Speed Deal", "Dial", "Doll" (he had just seen Bethany and was distracted).  He got the job.

Firstly despite the Co-op having opened it is good to see that Leanne still shops at Freschco.  Secondly she also demonstrates she knows how to bring Peter to heel by dumping the shopping and herself on his car bonnet so that he is forced to hear Toyah.

I have also decided to have a regular photo of "Extras at Work."

Between Gina and Beth are two regulars who throughout the scene as one member of the team after another declined an interview for the job of PA were eye rolling, shaking heads and exchanging unheard comments.  You were spotted working!

That wraps it up for this week.  Do let me know what you thought.

Writers: Ian Kershaw & Damon Alexis-Rochefort (Monday), David Isaac (Wednesday)and Mark Burt (Friday).
Directors: Alan Grint (Monday & Wednesday), Peter Rose (Friday).

Coronation Street Episode Review; Thursday 21st of June 2018 8.00pm

Welcome to the Coronation Street blog review of Thursday's hour-long episode

In amongst all this 'World Cup' football malarkey, it's nice to sit down and enjoy an hour of real drama, with no VAR* required (*nope.... me neither).

The course of young romance never did run smoothly on Coronation Street. Bethany reluctantly plays the reassuring BFF to a nervous Craig as his date with 'Speed Daal' waitress Kayla, approaches.

With the date now all arranged, has Cupid fired an arrow for the copper-haired 'copper'?.

The fall-out from Toyah and Eva's lies cause clashes between the Connor and Barlow/Battersby clans. Johnny wants a child arrangement order but Jenny isn't keen. Johnny sees a solicitor, demands a DNA test on baby Susie, and Eva is struggling to cope.

With Michelle and Kate firing venomous diatribe at the Battersby sisters, it looks like becoming an all-out cobbles war. Can Johnny and Jenny's marriage survive?

At the salon. Maria is left in charge as Audrey goes for lunch with a retired colleague. With Maria making management decisions, Emma's ditzy dithering gives her an idea. However, a sozzled Audrey has no retirement plans and decides to put Maria's rent up instead. Charming!.

At the factory, Alya introduces Sarah as her new PA. The girls aren't happy though as the job should have been advertised. Will her flurry of bad jobs for Sarah put the rest of the girls off of applying?.

Before the date, Kayla makes a swift trip to HMP Weatherfield. It appears she's visiting her Dad, who is, in fact, Neil Clifton, who sexually assaulted Bethany!!. Having sold his daughter a web of lies,  Kayla then launches a campaign to interrogate Craig and implicate Bethany.

It appears that cupid hasn't fired any arrows for Craig, it is more like a smoking gun...

Anyway, that's me done for another week.

By the time you read this, it will be Friday and another hour of Corrie is due tonight. GOAL!!.

Maybe football does have its benefits, after all!

Until next time Corrie fans...

Time to retire the Connor clan on Corrie

...well, most of them that is.

I've said it. As you read this I'm probably sat waiting for the backlash on Twitter for my words...but I genuinely believe that it is time to wave goodbye to the Connor family. If I'm quite honest with you, I've never been a fan, but as we're now in 2018 I can't help but feel they are the physical embodiment of the year 2010 being dragged out across the cobbles.

Obsessive Michelle Syndrome
Now I'm not quite sure why, but the writers adore Michelle Connor. Whilst Kym Marsh is a fantastic actress and her performance in last year's tragic storyline with the loss of baby Ruairi was phenomenal, I really think it is time for her to move onto the next step of her career, whatever that may be. Instead we've been treated with another vomit inducing round of 'Alex and Ryan', that hideous baby swap storyline from 2007 that was sharp forgotten about and was somewhat retconned come Sol Heras's tenure as Ryan a few years back. We're also now supposed to believe that despite knowing that his biological mum (who he was keen to avoid) lived within close proximity of the medical centre, Ali still accepted the work placement! Apparently Ryan is returning too, having not visited his mum in donkeys years, and that the person he loathed so much for ruining his teenage years is his reason to swan back to Weatherfield. I can just see this storyline dragging on through Michelle's tears and confusion, unable to remember which child she actually gave birth to.

Carla 2.0
One duration on the show was enough for Carla Connor. She'd well and truly had her day and as viewers I think we all accepted that it was the right time for her to move onto pastures new in Devon, given the street had actually ruined her life of sorts. Now we're expected to feel sorry for a woman who drank red wine with her cornflakes, whilst she scrapes around the relatives she's known for 5 minutes looking for a spare kidney. I really wish she'd just bugger off to the South again. The woman is now just a shadow of her former self, and is certainly no longer an icon. Alison King, you can do better than this.

Poor man's Mike Baldwin
Having a bloke in charge at Underworld would hark back to Mike Baldwin's days on the show, though Aidan Connor could not compare. First of all, he wasn't a short man with long hair and a cockney accent. He was a former Pop Idol (or some equally hideous talent show) winner. To give Shayne Ward his due, he's actually a good actor. I was dubious at first but he has proved himself. Sadly though, his character hasn't really had anything major to do. He's moved from woman to woman (now poor Sarah-Lou) and that's about it. I'll be glad to see the back of him later in the year.

...but everyone loves Jenny Bradley
I really bloody do. How can you not!? Not only is actress Sally Ann Matthews an absolutely divine person, but Jenny is hilarious in every sense of the word. Regardless of any marriage she will forever be Jenny Bradley. Every scene with Jenny in is simply joyous - even if she doesn't have dialogue, her expressions steal the show. Matched with Johnny, the pair make a compelling couple, and if they ever do move to Spain I hope it's just for a two week all inclusive. They're welcome to stay on Coronation Street with Kate for years to come.
